The Provinces

Gravis Magnator (432-502), the progenitor of all nobles in Gravisia, had thirteen sons, and each would go on to found the thirteen kingdoms of the Gravisian lands.

Capet, the eldest and most loyal, would create Capeitia, a large forested kingdom situated in the western plains and ruled by his descendants in the House of Neust (which was named for his son).

Lothair Ragna, the second and strongest, founded Dol Ragna, a small yet hardy nation set in the northeastern badlands and ruled by the House of Lothair.

Patris Ultor, the third born and most proud, would father what would be the largest of the kingdoms, Dol Ultor, a feisty diverse territory inhabited by his warrior descendants in the House of Paternost.

Russo, the fourth son and the harshest, went east and built the large kingdom of Silvane south of Dol Ragna, a sparse land of a proud people known for their survivability and intense rivalry with their northern neighbor. Ruled by the House of Chevin, so named by their capital city.

Keltigar, the fifth, was called by the sea and went by ship to the western islands and became the first King of Caledonia, commonly called the Caledon Isles, home to an intelligent and innovative race of peaceable seafarers, led by the House of Oilean, meaning "Skipper".

Thuringus, the inventive sixth born son, ventured into the high mountains north of the western plains and forged the Kingdom of Alpinesia, a land of masons and smiths, a land of artisans ruled by the House of Alvor meaning "Steel," in the Old Tongue.

Hakkon Scandor, the honorable seventh born, sojourned northward and established the wintry country of Dol Scandoni, the last of the northern kingdoms, commanded by the prickly House of Hakkon. The elite warrior Hakkonsgaard Order call Dol Scandoni home.

Partheon Cral, the eighth and most pious, took the southeastern lands of Cralos, the smallest of the kingdoms held by the House of Cralos.

Tyrrhen, the thrifty ninth son, ruled the southern wastes as the Kingdom of Tyrrhen, home to a semi-nomadic people of traders and reavers in service to the wealthy House of Savio founded by Tyrrhen's son.

Ios Illyr, the tenth born, founded the tightly knit Kingdom of Dol Balkos commanded by the House of Ion in the dry mountains north of the Tyrrhenese wastes.

Slavicus, the stalwart eleventh son, ruled over the passive yet proud Kingdom of Vakinia in the eastern forests. It was led by the House of Pasi, named for the river that dominates their country.

Ferdinor Breakspear, the courageous twelfth born, would go on to found the Kingdom of Andalica, the second largest kingdom set in the central hills and valleys and led by the House of Bravos established by his son and successor.

Baudicus Gallus, the youngest and cleverest son, stayed near his birthplace to create the House of Kylael and the Kingdom of Bretelonia, a coastal kingdom of an honest and curious people nearest to Caledonia and said to be the homeland of Gravis Magnator himself.

After several centuries of independence, King Artorius the Great of Bretelonia conquered the other twelve kingdoms and repelled foreign advances during the waning days of the Bleeding Century. He was named the first High King of a united Gravisia, and he allowed the defeated kings and their families to retain control of their lands as his representatives as supreme ruler, just with the changed name as provinces instead of kingdoms
