The Armed Forces of the Alperian Union

THE ALPERIAN UNION
Military Outliner

A NOTE ON UNION TACTICS

The Alperian Union (United Provinces of the Alperian Union) has a long and storied history with it's military organisation, structure and supremacy- as perhaps can be observed by 33% of government spending being used on the armed forces. Whilst for most nations this would allow for the development of a strong core; the Union's eternal insistance on being perpetually 'war ready' and planning for the waging of a Total war has left it's ability to fight smaller, firewatch wars and interventions greately weakened. As such, whilst the Union can no doubt deal with a 'long war' with in a peer-to-peer conflict or against a superior enemy; it's military will otherwise struggle with waging a limited scale conflict owing to it's focus on overwhelming firepower and rejection of the Escalation ladder.

Alongside this, the Union's focus on self defence and isolationism as a means of national survival has also left a rather large dependence on it's Nuclear Munitions- with the state supporting the production, storage and holding of multiple forms of 'Tactical' Nuclear Weapons and it's military being organised along Pentomic Structure. This further exagerates the Union's inability to wage limited scale warfare beyond the use of it's elite forces. This speaks nothing to the general fatigue an eternal war standing has- although this can be assumed to be madeup for in the event of such a war by ensuring it's population and military are well-versed in War Economy standards and practices.

THE BRANCHES OF THE ALPERIAN MILITARY

The Civil Guard

The National Command for the Civil Guarding of Alperia (Civil Guard) is the internal military/security of the Alperian Union; operating as an independent military branch that answers directly to the head of State- Seneschal-Marshal Asterion- through Civil Marshal Zevon- under Asterion's powers as the Citizen-Marshal of the Armed Forces of Alperia. Whilst a military body it operates independently from the standalone Alperian Military; forming it's ownm seperate organisation which has been in place since it's creation in 1965 under the Defence Powers Act. According to it's initial creation, the role of the Civil Guard is to ensure the internal stability of Alperian Society, deal with intentional terrorism/dissent, handle the protecting of government infrastructure/buildings and serve as the regional defence force of each Alperian Provience. However, in recent times the Civil Guard has taken on the increasing role of serving as the mechanism of the Union's internal militia force tailored towards defensive operations and absorbing those of 'lesser quality'when serving their Citizens Service in the military. Due to this, as the Union's interior force it's quality of equipment is lesser compared to the Union's primary ground force due to it's useage of older equipment- however the impact such a fact is lesser compared to most nations due to the Union's sheer scale of domestic arms production.

The Civil Guard comprises of 3 sections- the Civil Ground Command, the Civil Aerial Command and the Civil Naval Command.
