The main function of the GSIGV Central Military Commission is to lead and exercise the unified command of the Grossvietnamese armed forces, including the Grossvietnamese People's Army; Grossvietnamese People's Revolutionary Guard, Grossvietnamese People's Self-Defense Forces; Grossvietnamese Imperial Army, and the Grossvietnamese Imperial Orthodox Sangha Army. The Galactic Socialist Imperium of Grossvietnam. People's Revolutionary Guard is responsible for protecting public security, political order and safety. The Grossvietnamese Imperial Army a military force directly subordinated to the noble families in Grossvietnam, usually deployed for expeditionary missions when politically needed. The Grossvietnamese People's Self-Defense Forces serves as conventional militia and planetary defense forces, also does the missions which the Grossvietnamese People's Army cannot do. The Grossvietnamese Imperial Orthodox Sangha Army serves as an extended hand for the GPA and GPRG by using religion.Note:
Grossvietnamese Security and Intelligence Committee (Now the Grossvietnamese Secret Service and Grossvietnamese Intelligence Service), Grossvietnamese State Investigation Service and the Grossvietnamese People's Public Security are the only organizations not under the Central Military Commission's command in peacetime.

Theoretically, the CMC is elected by both the Politburo Standing Committee (PBSC) and Grand Assembly. In practice, membership is very closely controlled by the Joint Staff Department.
The members are generally uniformed military commanders, except for the 3 vice members, who are the Regent, Imperial Chancellor, and the General Secretary of GVCP - also the Speaker of the House of People. The military members are generally members of neither the Politburo Standing Committee nor the Government outside of the Minister of National Defense. The military members are apparently chosen with regular promotion procedures from within the GPA.
The only exception is the election of the Grand Commandant. Instead of being nominated by the PSBC, this seat is nominated directly by the Dragon Emperor. Then the Grand Assembly will vote.
