Guidelines for Roleplaying a Falkasian

The following is a guide for creating and roleplaying Falkasian characters in your RPs.

DISCLAIMER
As a matter of principle, I welcome anyone to roleplay a Falkasian for the purposes of their RPs. However, I do request that they be disconnected from my country as a whole, and may not operate in a capacity relating to an official organization or agency within this country without acquiring permission beforehand. In short, any Falkasian character you play may not be affiliated with my country, unless arrangements have been made. They can have background, but cannot be tied to/used for purposes of IC Casus Belli or things of that nature. The Falkasian government does not keep tabs on all of its citizens, so likewise certain independent individuals can be involved in some heavy, albeit extra-national stuff.

I also request that you TG me with a link to the thread/character, so I can enjoy and potentially get involved.

BASIC PROFILE

NAME
Falkasia, being a Post-Soviet Slavic nation, tends to have a populace reflecting this fact. Names are Slavic/Euro-Russian in origin, although some exceptions do exist. Northern coastal areas tend to favor more Nordic (Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish) names in line with the neighboring population of the Yellow Star Republic. Inland regions, especially south-central along the plains, one is more likely to meet individuals with mildly Germanic names, although such are quite uncommon. There are a select few high profile individuals which hail from the scrubland border region which neighbors Gragastavia who have Arab/Middle Eastern names, but these people are few and far between and are often the offspring of Gragastavian and Falkasian marriages. Unless circumstances exist such as just mentioned, a Falkasian may never have an Asian or Latin/Hispanic/Spanish name.

BUILD
Falkasians are human, and therefore conform to the typical constraints bestowed upon them by both biology and nature. As a whole, Falkasians tend to be about average height, if slightly on the taller side. The colder climate of their country tends to result in faster metabolisms and thusly leaner builds. Natural variation exists within the population, so there are few obligatory requirements.

SKIN TONE
Falkasians, being Slavic in origin, are predominately White-Caucasian. Their complexion ranges from fair to ghostly pale, although most tend to maintain a natural and often "glowing" pink-white color. The cold climate, coupled with the frequent thunderstorms of summer and apocalyptic blizzards of winter, render most Falkasians incapable of tanning or adding color to their skin. While there are exceptions, especially those Falkasians whom have either grown up outside the homeland or lived in certain places long enough, most Falkasian citizens have two colors: Natural and Lobster Red. Sunburn is a serious concern, especially in tropical and arid environments, although adaptation will occur to neutralize such harmful events.

There are Falkasians, especially those of mixed Falkasian-Gragastavian descent, who are more olive in complexion. These individuals tend to live almost exclusively in the border regions shared with Gragastavia, or within Gragastavia itself. Additionally, with Falkasia's emergence onto the world stage at the start of the 21st Century, a much larger variety of skin tone variations have found their way into the Falkasian gene pool. Although uncommon, it is not out of the question to encounter more exotic African or Asian skin-tones.

EYE COLOR
The most striking feature of most Falkasians are their eyes. A very common genetic marker, one that almost universally signifies a strong Falkasian line within a family is piercing blue eyes. Predominately, this gene manifests itself as either steel blue or ice blue in color.

Natural variation occurs, especially within individuals whose bloodlines are of mixed heritage, and may result in brown, hazel, or less vibrant blue eyes. Green eyes are almost unheard of within Falkasia, and are frequently the subject of superstitious legend and folkloric myths. Although anachronistic, many traditional Falkasians claim those who possess green eyes are untrustworthy and lack moral stability or strength-of-character.

HAIR COLOR
Falkasians, like all Slavic peoples, have a wide variation of hair colors. Typically, a Falkasian is naturally blonde or burnette, with another equally large group having dark burnette or black hair. Just like green eyes, red hair is extremely rare within Falkasia. It is still possible given an individual's heritage.

There are very few obligatory requirements in this category, although Falkasian culture tends to look down upon dying/bleaching hair into wild or unnatural colors such as (but not limited to) hot pink, yellow, or blue.

TIMEFRAME
Falkasia, and its people thereof, exist within the timeframe of Pre-Modern Tech (PT), Modern Tech (MT), and Early Post-Modern Tech (EPMT). However, take note that from the early 1800's to 1939, Falkasia was an independent Republic, from 1939 to 1945 as a conquest of Nazi Germany, and then from 1945 to 1989, it existed as a puppet state of the Soviet Union. Following 1989, Falkasia became an independent state once again. I personally do not place a specific year or date on the present Falkasia, although I typically RP with technology leading up to around 2030-2040.

While I will not prevent the RPing of Falkasians in full-on PMT or even FT settings, it is a place I have not ventured into much, and am thusly not comfortable meandering in. If you should desire to place a character in such a time period, please TG me and we can talk.

TEMPERMENT/PERSONALITY
Once again, this will vary wildly between individuals. Feel free to create your own unique personalities for your characters that make them shine in their own right, although I will include some notes that may help.

Falkasia, since the end of World War Two, was a puppet state of the Soviet Union (or a similar power, in your RP world). Most older Falkasians (30+) have a rather cynical and stoic outlook on life. This is especially common within both the government and military, but is shared with a large bulk of the population. This outlook is more about practicality than it is emotion, stressing realism and objectivity that might otherwise be lost in the heat of a moment. Many of these individuals have been conditioned to do without or to do with less than ideal, and thusly have grown accustomed to making the most out of what is available and not bemoaning an unchangeable situation.

Younger Falkasians, typically those under 25, have a brighter outlook on life. Having grown up well outside the dominance of the Soviet state, they tend to be more outgoing an individualistic than older Falkasians. Used to having what they need or knowing how to get it, younger Falkasians are very resourceful and make excellent businesspeople or problem-solvers. Many still retain a bit of the cynical outlook of their parents, moreso as a result of their upbringing and the presence of cultural and societal relics than from an overbearing regime.

Regardless of their age, Falkasians in general are incredibly idealistic and individualistic. Their one-time imposed subservience to the Soviets was a bitter enough pill to swallow, so naturally their new found independence and freedom is something they desire to protect. This extends to an individual's core of personal beliefs. Few Falkasians are willing to sacrifice what they believe in, oftentimes bordering on severe stubbornness. This should not be confused however, with a lack of desire in finding compromise. Most Falkasians will gladly negotiate out deals in any pertinent situation, stemming back to their realistic (often described as stoic) outlook on life. That is, so long as their internal core cadre is not damaged in the process.
