The eastern union central authority

Elections Called For

As soon as Eucadia's referendum passed, the Eastern Union Central Authority has called for elections to determine the future of the Eastern bloc. At present, the potential contestants are as follows:

The Eastern Worker's Party is a mass leftist movement with support from socialists, Communists, trade unions, pan-Tuvhalians, and the various Colossist and Sahmanic social movements. It supports a strong central state, parliamentary democracy, Union-level economic planning, and an activist but restrained foreign policy. It is expected to sweep Recheve, Stadtderflammen, Pyraz, parts of Vanparia, and much of Istanistan. Noted figures in the movement include chairwoman of its Istanistani section Samarah Aziz, UDF Military Council member and Stadt People's Army Marshal Erlyn Vasha Gron dander Krixholme, and sitting Rechian Consul Luke Perry.

Surprising many, noted Istanistani politician and former Prime Minister Quintius Chisholm has left the Socialists in Istanistan. Instead, he has tried to forge a new alliance, the Union Reformists. The Reformists generally support trade inside the bloc, federalism to preserve the independent nations, protection of traditional culture and ideas, a muscular foreign policy, and a social-liberal approach to economics emphasizing strong social programs and a free-er market. He has already made inroads in Vanparia and has crossed to Eucadia to lobby the Progressive and Conservative parties for their alignment with his new bloc. Rumor has it that he offered President Stone the leadership of the party given his broad pan-Union popularity and higher political profile. The Reformists will currently see their support limited to parts of Istanistan and Vanparia, but if Eucadia were to ratify the new Eastern Union initiative they could become a serious political force.

Shrive's governing Red Iron party has also launched itself into the EU Parliament. It has broadly campaigned on direct democracy, the continued existence of the Shriven monarchy, the independence of the military from political control, an interventionist foreign policy, and left-wing economics. While it is expected to do well in its own country, few see it having major weight beyond it. In the event of a Eucadian "yes" vote, the possibility of it being the balancing force between the Eastern Workers and the Union Reformists exists.

However, there is plenty of time for more parties and movements to announce their candidacy. Many expect that Eucadia in particular will shape the future and form of the Eastern Assembly.

Public Works Programs Announced

The new Union Ministry for Public Works has announced starts on several long-delayed projects. First, the Ministry has announced funding for a bridge uniting the northerly Istanistani city of Sentinel with the Southern tip of Eucadia. A previous deal existed between the Eucadian Federation and Istanistan to build the bridge, but Istanistan handed over its financial commitments to the Eastern Union. The project will employ equal numbers of Istanistanis and Eucadians, and will distribute profits and contracts evenly. This is a massive project, but will hopefully add much to the economies of each nation. In the long run, commerce will be greatly increased. The official press release for the new project specifically named President Stone as having first taken initiative on the project, and many have suggested that he lay the symbolic cornerstone to recognize his decades of work in building the warm relationship between Istanistan and Eucadia after long periods of enmity. This is expected to be a five-year project.

Second, another long-delayed project has been started - a channel is being cut through the narrowest point of Pyraz connecting the South Aesa Sea with the Vanparian Sea. This will bypass any need for Union shipping to pass through the less-controlled Ascendant Straits, reduce travel times, and increase commerce. Pyrazi labour is mostly expected to be used for this, although Vanparian and Istanistani resources and workers will also be used. This is expected to be a ten-year project.

Thirdly, the Spine Tunnel is being enhanced. For a long time, the Spine has been a major chokepoint for logistics and commerce. Now, the aim is to open that chokepoint and truly integrate the Union. The existing Spine Tunnel in the range's South will be doubled in size, allowing a huge increase in traffic through it including heavy rail lines. Two more tunnels at the new, increased size will also be bored - one in the centre of the range near New Xandris, and one in the North of the range near the Rechian border. The central tunnel will be specially fitted out to allow for mass military use. Cross-Spine commerce is expected to dramatically expand, opening up new opportunities and bringing the Eastern Union further together. This expected to take six years.

Mandate Shakeup

Responding to both a dramatic political shakeup and the impassioned personal intervention of Ayamira Irelyn Morien, the Eastern Union has announced a purge in South Daemondrial. The People's Republic of South Daemondrial was, up until now, governed by the authoritarian Southern National People's League and its populist Chairwoman, Erszun Kalist. However, recent document leaks in Istanistan have linked Kalist and her loyalists to ousted Istanistani Prime Minister Hanifa Ahram's patronage network and rather esoteric political ideas. Now that Ahram has been supplanted by Aster Vryholme and her powerful backer Samarah Aziz and the infamous Foundation for Pan-Oriental Studies has been fully purged, Chairwoman Kalist has run out of friends. Even the powerful Eulessian Long Service Group, a major corporation with ties to the SNPL and Istanistani reactionaries, has been purged and nationalized by the Istanistani government. Kalist is out of friends, and apparently the intervention of Korahlia's new ruler was the final straw.

Chairwoman Kalist has been arrested, along with most of her inner circle, on charges of corruption, terrorism, and crimes against the Eastern peoples. Strong evidence suggests that she conspired to provoke civil war in South Daemondrial to strengthen her personal grip on power, misused Eastern resources, and took major bribes in exchange for political privileges. She also deliberately suppressed the use of the Union Defence Forces so she could build up her own private army. With no cash flow and no major backers, she was powerless to object when UDF troops took her into custody and announced the end of her particular regime.

For now, the People's Republic of South Daemondrial is politically under the control of an Eastern Supervisory Council, while the Union Defence Forces have taken responsibility for law and order as well as defence. The Peace Forces have been ordered back to barracks and will be reviewed before being integrated, along with the rest of the member-state militaries, into the Union Defence Forces. In the interests of political sensitivity, the Union has requested that the remaining elements of the Third Army be rotated away and replaced elements of the Fourth and Tenth, which will both increase bending capabilities and reduce the current regrettable paranoia about Rechian influence. The Supervisory Council is composed of one member of a moderate SNPL faction, one local Seraphic Church hierarch, and one Union representative - a Stadtd with an Iaezandrian parent who immigrated during the great exodus. This body will be tasked with totally reforming the Mandate.

Important changes have already been made in the political sphere. Police supervision was immediately ended on the Seraphic Church, the Pan-Korahlian Communist Party, and both Morien-loyalist and neutral political formations. The Southern National People's League was dissolved and restrictions on political organizing have been ended. The foundations for a self-governing majority-Seraphic region in the Northeast have been made. Kalist's loyalists are being cleaned out of the state apparatus systematically, and are being replaced with Union administrators from Istanistan and Eucadia in the short term. Once a new civil service can be trained, they will be replaced by locals. Similarly, elections will soon be called to end the Supervisory Council and bring democracy to the region. In the short term, however, citizens will be allowed to campaign for and vote in the pan-Union elections given that South Daemondrial has been granted seats.

The issue of what to do with Kalist in particular, as well as her loyalists, has been debated. Most have decided to settle on a public trial, with a jury evenly convened from the communities of South Daemondrial. The trial will not be public given Kalist's infamously inflammatory rhetoric - she would undoubtedly use her time in the dock as a propaganda tool to incite racial hatred. However, the media will be allowed access to the courtroom and will be allowed to report freely. At present, the Supervisory Council considers her crimes to have been committed against Eastern citizens, and will try her by Eastern law. However, should it be proved that she also committed crimes against Korahlian citizens on Korahlian territory, her extradition could be arranged as a sign of goodwill.

The media environment is being rearranged. Many papers were tools of Kalist's shadowy network and wholly compromised. In the short term, these will be shuttered. Major foreign news services from across the Union will be allowed to flood in and report freely, and a South Daemondrial Broadcasting Corporation will be founded to provide non-partisan coverage. Inciting racial hatred will be treated as a crime for the media as well, and many SNPL members will soon find themselves sharing cells with Kadi Al-Seiv fellow-travellers. It is an ironic situation.

On the social side, many of the SNPL's programs have been ended and a wholesale change of attitude has been observed. Cultural integration measures against the Seraphic population have been ended, the much-hated language centralization in particular. In their place, the population will be allowed to breathe. Culture will be supported rather than beaten down. Harsh educational propaganda, including nationalism and racial chauvinism, will be stricken from the curriculum. The ban on missionary activity will be lifted. The government will continue to provide funds in order to promote local traditions, beliefs, pantheons, and ideas, but state coercion will be ended. Repression of sermons will similarly be ended.

In a much more sweeping move, the government has ended both restrictions on citizens taking pilgrimages to Korahlian shrines and on Korahlian citizens entering South Daemondrial to visit Seraphic holy sites. A new "Mandate Cultural Trust" has been founded by the Mandate which will provide funds for the refurbishment and maintenance of churches, shrines, holy sites, sacred artifacts, and Seraphic charitable initiatives. The government will also subsidize the wages of Seraphic clergy to end their comparative poverty. A scholarship will be provided to those seeking to study theology, either at Eastern universities or in Korahlia. Finally, the government is creating an open archive of Seraphic holy texts from across the world and making it available for clergy to study in the interest of advancing their learning and knowledge of global Seraphic culture.

The government has seen economic potential in pilgrimage, and is already announcing infrastructure initiatives to make it easier. United Eastern Airlines, a state corporation, has proposed opening a direct route between Najin and Seraven with further service to Concordia Aezar and Korahlia City for this express purpose, and controls on border crossings have been dramatically reduced. The hope is that once the people of Korahlia see the new age unfolding in South Daemondrial and the great works being undertaken, they will begin to change their minds about the Eastern Union and South Daemondrial.

More boldly, the Eastern Union has proposed the negotiation of a concordat between the Seraphic Church and the Union itself, regulating the rights and duties of the hundreds of millions of Seraphic faithful within its borders. Although South Daemondrial's Seraphic population will see its lot dramatically bettered regardless, a strong agreement would also offer greater assurances to the faithful in Belka and Stadtderflammen (although the latter has always treated them preferentially) and open up new opportunities for immigration, trade, and cooperation. The precise nature of this concordat is up to question, but it would undoubtedly involve commitments to pilgrimage rights, Union funds for religious and cultural practice, provisions for missionary activity, and the specific needs of the Seraphic peoples. Although the Union is a democracy including some of history's longest steady commitments to human rights (unlike a certain power which referred to it as a totalitarian beast), a specific agreement would undoubtedly do much to advance the Seraphic cause. More importantly, it would allow the Knights Vigilate access to the Eastern Union, including the Mandate. Finally, it would lay the groundwork for a sweeping economic agreement between Korahlia and the Eastern Union - bringing the East's prosperity Westwards to the furthest limits of Tuvhalia.

The Union has also started major economic reform in South Daemondrial. The dominant Eulessian Long Service Group was nationalized by Istanistan, but has now been handed over to the Ministry for Planning, Trade, and Industry. It has been reformed as the South Daemondrial Development Bureau (SDDB), with its new purpose being the expansion of industry rather than the simple accumulation of profit. In its new guise, it will expand both infrastructure and economic activities. Its most pressing task will be economic development in Seraphic regions. This will include both investment in the agricultural sector to increase productivity and crop yields and mass industrial spending. Several new major steel mills will be opened up, along with new mines and quarries. Jobs will be guaranteed to the Seraphic population with a particular emphasis on the unemployed. The SDDB will also build up roads and railways to link the local economy in majority-Seraphic areas with the broader South Daemori economy. Translators and legal advisors will be offered to help businesspeople in the area operate on an equal level, and traditional Seraphic charities, social work, and cooperatives will be subsidized to ease the transition. The SDDB has successfully lobbied for an increased trade quota with Korahlia for Mandate businesses, hopefully boosting commerce between the Mandate and the Refuge State. Labour organizing, long discouraged by the government, is now being freely promoted again.

Of course, this new surge in rights and reform has been propagandized. On the economic side in particular, major new works projects have been stamped over and over with the "South Daemondrial Development Bureau" tag and the logo of the Eastern Union. Much credit has already been passed to the Eastern Union's centralization reforms, which were blocked and waylaid by the corrupt duo of PM Hanifa Ahram and Chairwoman Erszun Kalist, for a new era of culture and opportunity. The Mandate Cultural Trust has similarly made its symbol prevalent. Propaganda about the "Liberation from Above" has been steadily spread by Eastern-friendly sources, glorifying the new era and the promise of the days ahead.

On the other hand, much credit has also been handed to the Ayamira, Irelyn Morien, and her boldness. Much has been made of her having taken the initiative to negotiate a new future for the Seraphic people of South Daemondrial, liberating them from the oppression of local tyrants and working with the Eastern Union central government to win them a better social, economic, cultural, and political future. The broad line being spread is that she personally presented the abuses against the people to the Union, as they had been hidden from the Eastern nations by the greedy and scheming local government and corrupt national politicians. Now that the Union is more united than ever, such abuses can finally be corrected and all injustices made right.

Given that only pro-Morien political forces were openly allowed to exist in the Mandate - and even these were viewed with suspicion by the police and monitored - it has even been said that the Moriens were undermining the evils of the regime from day one. In other words, a complex narrative is being spun of a good Eastern Union which was deceived and deliberately undermined by conspiring bureaucrats and politicians, but which has triumphed over them through the intervention of the Ayamira and is now bringing a new age of democracy and flourishing.

Titan Epithet Mocked

Upon hearing about the Titan Emperor's new paranoiac speech, newly-appointed Union Minister for External Affairs Quintius Chisholm launched a blistering response.

"We respect the aim of the Titan people for self-determination. The same impulse drove all of us to join the Eastern Union. But we believe that a people - a nation - is more than a state. A nation is not such a weak thing that it needs hard borders and secret police to protect it. In fact, its potential is only bounded by these things. A nation, like a human being, can only achieve its full potential once it has surpassed the animal instincts of fear, distrust, self-preservation, and solitude and joined together with others in pursuit of a noble goal. Each citizen of the East and each nation of the East is made more noble, more proud, and closer to its best self by its voluntary union with others in pursuit of the things that truly matter - prosperity, equality, democracy, human rights, and the betterment of our fellow men.

There were elements within our Union that tried to hold us back from the realization of the Union's promise, but they have been cleared away and a new day awaits. The nations of the Union have banded together not to give up their freedom, as some imagine, but to fully realize it. Our many nations seek freedom from the fear, ignorance, pettiness, and greed that the nation-state engenders. And we seek that freedom democratically - as the Eucadians demonstrated, each of our nations is here by choice. Each nation will always self-determine.

So call the Eastern Union a beast, if you will. If it is beastly to end the lust for war and bloodshed, then we are a beast. If it is beastly to override petty dictatorship and greed to guarantee the liberty of every constituent nation, then we are a beast. If it is beastly to displace the unfaithful servant to protect a minority who they had beaten down on in contravention to the values and commands of the Union, then we are a beast. If it is beastly to to as Titananium does not and build our foundation on the right of citizens to vote, to form a union, to worship what gods they please, to visit what countries they please, to have what values they please, to search for their own dreams instead of those of the state, and to conduct their affairs in the manner of their own choosing, then we are a beast. If it is beastly to guarantee every citizen freedom from want and takes us past the beastly scrabbling for beastly needs - to ensure no citizen will ever go without housing, food, water, shelter, and work - then we are all beasts. If it is beastly to build a society based on voluntary cooperation in service of common ideals rather than bestial power-grubbing and scrabbling for resources and mere survival, then we are a beast. If it is beastly to place the survival of our traditions and culture on their essential vitality and beauty instead of the use of state force and violence, then I suppose we must be beastly. If it is beastly to have hope that we can, together, make tomorrow better than today, then we are a beast.

But if that is the kind of a beast we are, then we're a noble beast indeed. And I'd rather be a noble beast than a beastly man.

We look forward to a long period of peaceful cooperation with Titananium. And we hope, against all odds, for a day when all the world's nations embrace reason and compassion rather than animal fear. Our commitment to the Union demands no less of us."

Teronia to open new agreements with Titan, solidifies alliance

Following the release of Emperor Radec's speach and the subsequent response of the newly-appointed Union Minister for External Affairs Quintius Chisholm, Teronia has begun negotiations for additional trade agreements with Titananium. As a staunch and extremely close ally of the now isolationist Teronia, Titananium has always been one of the few nations on Terra truely trusted by the Teronian people. It can be very much considered a case of "backing the family," when mere hours after the release of the Union Miniter of External Affairs' cutting remarks the State of Teronia released a statement that they were directly persuing the direct expansion and renewal of the ancient trade pacts between the two nations. This, in addition to the recent joint projects between Uelvan, Titananium, and Teronia has lead many to believe that the nation has begun pulling back from the EU.

While it may simply be a case of poor timing and coincidence on the part of the Teronian government, many analysts believe that the government may be looking for an exit strategy.

When questioned, one such analyst has this to say:
"Teronia has had a marked history of staunch opposition to anything that has even the slightest potential to threaten national sovereignty. Regardless of the potential for good, the formation of a superstate is a monumental threat regardless to the intentions of the state in question. Concentration of political, economic, and military power to such a degree directly across the border is a threat that no government even remotely interested in national sovereignty can ignore. While it would be foolish for any government to directly oppose a state of this magnitude, it is very reasonable for such a state to look at potential alternatives in such a situation.

Teronia is no stranger to the threat of war. We may crave peace, but if peace would require the sacrifice of our right to self determination than we will fight for every breath we have left. I think the EU should be very careful for its next steps, for they will determine if Teronia is a friend or a foe."

EU Seeks Closer Ties with Zemoro

After an already-sweeping range of reforms, the Eastern Union has reached out to a new potential friend - Zemoro. Although Zemoro is a member of the Xandaran Pact, many believe that bloc politics should not preclude friendship between peoples and peaceful prosperity. Therefore, Foreign Minister Quintius Chisholm has proposed a new deal between the East and Zemoro after low-level diplomatic consultations. This treaty would include a range of benefits for both sides, including:

-Greater trade quotas specifically offered to Zemoro
-Investment commitments by the Eastern Union into Zemoro's economy
-The granting of a charter to Zemoro which would give the right to start investment and economic development in the People's Republic of South Daemondrial
-The opening of Najin's port facilities to Zemoran sea traffic, allowing practical economic access to the Eastern economies and Friday Freshman
-The opening of access for Eastern shipping to Elha Beraia to extend its range
-The opening of airports to respective air carriers to facilitate travel
-Simplifying the process of acquiring tourist, work, and religious visas for each bloc to facilitate more travel
-Establishing greater academic cooperation between Eastern and Zemoran universities, along with joint investment in translation of important cultural, historic, and religious texts
-Establishing family reunification programs and streamlined trade between the population of Najin and the Eszari population of Elha Beraia
-Establishing academic exchange programs between Zemoro and Eastern universities
-Establishing the right of Zemoran Seraphic missionaries to preach freely in South Daemondrial
-Establishing the right of Sahmanic clergy to preach to the Eszari population of Zemoro
-Establishing the right of Zemoran Seraphic citizens to undertake pilgrimage to shrines and holy sites in Belka and South Daemondrial
-Establishing the right of Union Seraphic citizens to undertake pilgrimage to shrines and holy sites in Zemoro
-Establishing a commission to study the viability of a concordat between the Zemoran Orthodox Church and the Eastern Union

This is little more than a proposed framework for further negotiation and all current stipulations are only potential options, but many see this as a potential important step forwards in building new relations with the greater Seraphic world.

Eastern Union Reassures Teronia

Responding to Teronian worries, Foreign Minister Chisholm has offered Teronia reassurances that its neutrality and self-determination were never in question, and that the Teronian people are seen as an important partner of the East - be it in economics, society, culture, or joint fighter design. The Eastern Union has therefore offered a series of assurances, including a joint demilitarized border and increased trade. Official interest has also been expressed in the Teronian proposal for a mass railway connecting Recheve to Vanparia. Teronian neutrality and economic cooperation are both considered to be valuable goals for the East.

In a completely separate matter unofficial commemoration for the contribution of Teronian volunteers to the last Istanistani Civil War has also been announced, with commemorations and new memorials being proposed.

Moving in

You know when you want to take your relationship to the next level, you move in with each other.

And that’s what’s happened.

While EU administrators, military forces and other various figures have been in and out of Eucadia for years, up until centralization, they were just visitors.

But yesterday, in a scene that played out across the Federation, it was clear Eucadia had committed to the EU entirely. At airports around the country, many domestic and international flights were cancelled as the EU Air Force commandeered airports so that EU soldiers could land and report to their new assignments. On railroads, military trains carrying plenty of hardware were being escorted to nearby train stations for unloading. In Manhattan, tanks and transports bearing EU insignias were seen strolling down 5th Avenue.

In Eucadia City, the Eucadian flag was lowered at Eucadia Tower by order of President Stone and the EU flag was raised in its place. On Kings Boulevard, it was the same scene. Where Eucadian banners once welcomed citizens into Eucadia City, a new EU banner was replacing them.

Social media campaigns in support of the transition have begun. Citizens in Eucadia who are unemployed are being asked to report to the nearest Department of Human Services so that they can be provided with employment anywhere in the EU. At educational institutions, applications have skyrocketed now that EU citizens are granted the same benefits to higher ed that were once reserved for Eucadians only.

And it’s a transition in other EU countries as well. Laws on bending are sure to be updated or replaced as Eucadians are now classed as EU citizens.

While a large chunk of Eucadians were against centralization, very little of them have protested against it. It would seem as if many Eucadians are simply watching and waiting to see how this will affect them in the long run.

Deaconship Election Begins
As the public begins voting for their regional Deacons to represent them in the Choir, pro-Morien and EU-friendly candidates have made one final push to advertise recent changes to how the EU operates, and the possibility of a freely-governed holy land if cooperating with the Eastern Union. Voting for these candidates has been labelled as "a worthy gamble" by experts: While the risk presented by the EU has never reduced, the benefits of cooperating with the eastern world could be greater than those offered by the "safe option" of pro-Sephanos and XP-friendly candidates.

Sephanos Nominee Chosen
Abhishek vil-Akhil Tarun Al-Sephani has been chosen by anonymous by the leadership of the Al-Sephani Clan. Bowsette Sephanos, crippled by the association with Artemis Reynolds/Ar'mis Sephanos, has been unable to prove herself to clan members outside the immediate Sephanos family.
Abhishek won over his clan primarily through his experience and international relationships: He has worked as a banker and negotiator across Xandara for Kori and foreign private organizations and has a strong grasp of Xandaran trade, politics, and language. Abhishek was supposedly contracted by his uncle Ishan to organise the deal with Titananium for the construction of LAPIS SABRE, as well as deals with Uelvani businesses since the founding of the Refuge State.
His cousin Bowsette has never left Daemondriael.

Safe Exit Negotiated for Morien Loyalists
With the likelihood of a Morien monarchy increasing, the Coalition Military of Korahlia has negotiated terms for a safe exit from Sephanos City for the Morien Loyalists at Sephanos Castle. It is all but confirmed that upon a Sephanos vote the CMK and CLOUD will return to Kal'Telos to arrest Irelyn Morien for her crimes.

Truth and Reconciliation

In a new push for justice at home and goodwill with the Korahlian people, a great reconciliation effirt has been started in the South Daemondrial People's Republic. One of the most important parts of this is the new official Reconciliation Commission, which has several purposes. Overall, its aim will be to bring perpetrators of crimes to account, collect the testimonies of the people to establish truth, recommend further steps forwards, and memorialize the conflict to prevent its future repetition. A Court of Justice has been convened with neutral Stadtd and Eucadian jurists to hear cases concerning crimes committed by both ex-state agents and Seraphic separatists without favour to either. Although the broad range of cases will likely be of arrested regime officials - most notably Chairwoman Kalist herself - many also believe that only by rooting out perpetrators of terrorism, atrocity, and violence against civilians on both sides of the struggle can peace be achieved. Citizens are therefore invited to come forwards without fear of retribution and testify, with limited amnesty being offered to those who fully confess and help the Reconciliation Commission press a series of flagship cases. The general operating principle is that the defence of "following orders" will not be accepted given the chaotic environment. Trials will also be convened against media and corporate personalities for having "incited atrocity". Reversing an earlier decision, the trials and proceedings will be open to the public. The Eastern Union is proud of its work, and believes that the airing-out of the sins of a previous era carried out under the orders of traitors will result in redoubled support for the new Union and peace.

Dangling an important carrot, the Reconciliation Commission has suggested that given the rather hazy border between South Daemondrial and so-called Free Elza'Korun and the violence of the campaign there, a variety of crimes could have been committed in a rather dubious crossover of jurisdictions. If it was so inclined, the Commission could decide that a range of actions against civilians carried out by the jailed former Chairwoman Erszun Kalist and her militia allies would be recognized as having been carried out in a Korahlian jurisdiction. While Kalist is currently facing charges of treason against the Union and atrocities against Union citizens and will likely receive the death penalty, the Mandate Legal Bureau has opened up an offer to extradite her to Korahlia upon conviction and hand over the seized internal documents required to convict her.

However, the Commission has also renewed the existing arrest warrant for Kadi Al-Seiv leader Nronu Var Tileah and his deputies, some of whom are in Korahlian custody. Their bombings and attacks in Najin, which saw hundreds of civilians massacred during the first few months of the Mandate, were seen by many as the inciting incidents in the conflict that followed. The Commission's official opinion is that convicting Tileah alongside Kalist would send a message that justice is impartial and punishes the sins of all equally. The case against Tileah and his proxies is extremely clear-cut, with established chains of evidence linking them to the Kadi Al-Seiv cells responsible for the terrorist acts. His extradition, or at least arrest and trial in Korahlia, would do much to promote peace. More interestingly, the Commission has offered to drop prospective cases against CMK troops which committed terrorist acts against both civilians and military personnel in disputed territories in exchange for Tileah being brought to trial.

Regardless of the results, the Reconciliation Commission has endorsed the payment by the Mandate government of reparations to victims of the conflict. Given that the People's Republic of South Daemondrial represents all communities and peoples, it will pay out compensation funds to both the victims of Chairwoman Kalist's actions and of the Kadi Al-Seiv without favour. This signals community investment in healing all the scars of conflict and bringing the people together. In doing this, many hope that South Daemondrial's ethnic and political divides will begin to heal. Reparations will cover personal injury and trauma, destruction of property, loss of family members, internal displacement, forcible conscription into extralegal paramilitary bodies, and unfair treatment. Reparations will also be available to entire communities for the purpose of rebuilding and commemoration - the City of Najin has already received a significant grant to commemorate bombing and terror victims, and several Northern villages have been granted funds to commemorate the scars of repeated atrocities by Kalist-affiliated and Kadi Al-Seiv cells. With reparations, the hope is not simply to remedy the past but to build for the future.

The Commission has also endorsed some more unorthodox methods of reconciliation, most notably a limited and negotiated adjustment of the border between Korahlia and the People's Republic of South Daemondrial. A limited adjustment to transfer some contested territories along the Northern frontier would not be seen as particularly harmful to Eastern interests, and would also do much to stabilize the situation. The broad line posed by the government is that it will not transfer a significant Sahmanic minorities across international boundaries. However, the series of entirely Seraphic villages along the inland Faemari frontier possess little strategic importance, and many Union officials would be more than happy to make those dens of Kadi Al-Seiv sympathizers someone else's problems. Many would push for any adjustment to also include majority-Sahmanic villages, specifically either Old Nodanese or Eszari in origin, along the Westwinds coast. However, the precise parameters would entirely be up for discussion with a sufficiently open government.

Finally, the Commission has announced a rather surprising economic measure - a provisional program which would offer special import/export charters to the Seraphic business class of Najin for the purpose of trade with the Korahlian homeland. While the Nodanese-origin business class has seen a major boom in recent years due to their long-standing Eastern and Westwinds orientation, the much smaller Kori section have suffered. This program would allow them rare exemptions from the Union's harsh import and export controls to resume trade with Korahlia and leverage their linguistic and religious connections to achieve renewed prosperity, as well as turn their attention away from financing militant organizations and towards healthy trade and friendship between peoples.

Troop Shuffling

The Eastern Armed Forces have shifted the UDF's 4th Legion out of South Daemondriael, replacing the veteran Eucadian infantry with the raw recruits of the 11th Army. The 11th, largely Eucadian and hailing from Hoshanna, was on training exercises during the recent war in Eucadia, and thus still has yet to see action. They're well trained, but now they'll be tested against the militants on the Telemarcian border.

OPERATION AES GLORY

With the entire military now centralized under the Eastern Armed Forces, the War Council under Supreme Commander Alexandrios has seen fit to hold the largest military exercises of all time. The Operation will feature 40% of the Navy, 30% of the Army and 25% of the Air Force, over one billion men participating in or facilitating the manoeuvres. The target area will be Vanparia and Stadtderflammen, with Aes Glory itself containing three smaller components.

Operation Witching Hour

The first component, Witching Hour will consist of a massive naval campaign, including eight Legatus battleships. The goal will be to move through the Aes Sea while engaging a simulated enemy, made up of PT boats and destroyers designated as various hostile vessels by COFFIN. The entire Eastern Aggressor Training Squadron will be in attendance, thousands of aircraft flown in rotation to ensure proper opposition for pilots. The 1st Provisional Invasion Group will eliminate enemy forces, punch into the Ascendant Straits, suppress simulated targets in Pyraz and reach landing sites in Vanparia. This stage of the operation will not be live fire, and will instead be judged by monitoring AWACS overhead.

Operation Daybreak

Should Witching Hour prove successful, Operation Daybreak will commence. Essentially a massive amphibious landing, the Operation will involve simulated bombardments across Vanparia as well as live-fire beach landings. Each Division will make five landings, with twenty beaches seeing constant rotations of units in and out. Once all units have participated in their landings, they will be given 'damage,' and this will affect their unit status for the coming operation.

Operation Sunrise

The final stage will be the largest, taking place across Vanparia, Stadtderflammen and Recheve. The UDF will split in half, with three Armies forming opposition and three forming the invasion force. There will be multiple campaigns, ensuring the maximum amount of experience for each unit in all biomes, pairings and matchups. While Sunrise is ongoing there will be Air Force simulations of full-scale strategic dogfights, while the Navy participates in bombardment, anti-submarine, anti-air defence and surface encounter exercises.

These exercises are expected to take months, possibly even years. Units will be rotated in and out of the exercises as they become available, and it is expected that the entire standing military (over 2 billion men) will participate.

Another year (ish)

It's been 3 years since the re-build of Elithis began and finally the rebuild is almost completed. In the past year more key milestones have been reached:

- The launch of the Westwinds and Reserve Fleets.
- Growth of the United Army to 15 000 000 service men and women.
- Full operational status of the Patagonia Industrial Complex.
- Titan Guard 2.0.
- Reclaimation of Port Rolland in Candaya and establishment of Port Charlotte in Recheve.
- Beginning of a new chapter in the Elithisian Space Program and reconnection with many old Elithisian Satellites (Imperial Eye, ODIN).

Lord-Unifier Richard Naharis remains adamant that the United Isles will remain impartial towards international alliances (XP and EU) and will not become directly involved in any overseas conflict unless provoked.

Apocalypse
The South Aesa Sea
33rd Preliminary Testing Force, 1st Provisional Invasion Group
1000 Hours

"Testing will begin in under two minutes."

The four Legatus sat far from the Vanparian coast, barely budging as massive ocean waves slapped feebly at their gargantuan hulls. Their guns were pointed West, monstrous 820mm Lucifers whirring ominously as their power sources came online. It was dawn where the ships were sailing, but their targets were still eclipsed in darkness. Despite the distance, the Legatus were almost too close. In an actual operation, they'd have started firing many, many Kilometres East of here. Still, this was just a testing phase.

Command had seen fit to construct three artificial cities, hoping to test out the effectiveness of Lucifer rounds. The first one, that which was being targeted today, was smaller; it was intended as a calibration point, which would allow the Legatus to zero in their range and observe how accurate their fire was. Essentially, it was just a warm-up bombardment today. Still, each bridge was crammed with officers and politicians, hoping to watch the devastation as it was dealt, eyes glued to various feeds of the target city. Their hearts began pounding as the order to commence was given, bracing themselves for the unbelievable booming of the guns.

"BB-2, commence guided bombardment pattern."

There was a pause, every inexperienced man on the colossal EUS Balder II holding his breath, filled with giddy anticipation. Then, like the horrific screeching of a demon clawing its way out of hell's fiery bosom, the main guns began to fire. One by one the flashes blinded the spectators, smoke obscuring the vessel and heat boiling the water on either side of the ship's treated decks. Even despite shifting ballast and compensatory drives, the ship rocked with each shot, the massive shells splitting through the sky at incredible speeds. After 9 consecutive shots from the three main turrets, the EUS Balder II fell silent. All eyes turned to the screens.

The first shell struck near the city centre, cratering a huge section of the "downtown," shredding flimsier houses even a good distance away from the impact. Then the remaining shells struck, one by one, punching their targets with pinpoint accuracy. Concrete and debris was flung high into the air, pillars of fire erupted with each collision. The explosions were immense, and the force of the salvos could be felt across Eastern Tuvhalia.

"BB-2, move left and break back towards the fleet. BB-4, commence guided bombardment pattern."

By the time the final Legatus got to fire, the previous three had long since flattened the entire city. The final nine shots simply fell within the target area and widened the existing craters, serving simply to confirm the guns were working as intended. The devastation was absolute; the city had been converted to rubble, then to powder, and then to ash.

In a few hours, Operation Aes Glory would commence, and the Eastern Union's unprecedented military might would be on full display. This preliminary bombardment would be nothing compared to the scale of the movements to come, but the sheer awe it inspired spoke to the capabilities of the Union, a coalition so powerful that even the might of a Legatus was pedestrian.

Lidyastadt

As it turns out, Anchorhead Bay was already the name of a city in Recheve, and as such it's weird to also have an Anchorhead Bay in Elithis. I shall be renaming the latter Lidyastadtd.

East Telemarcian Seraphic Church

Bailgean has announced the foundation of the East Telemarcian Seraphic Church, an institution made up of various sects desiring protection from a secular government. Bailgean, governing over a variety of Seraphic sects and Colossist branches, has placed religious freedom at the forefront of its agenda, ensuring the autonomy and security of all its religious minorities as long as it stands. Religious lobby groups are outlawed but nearly every other freedom is permissible, as long as the rights of other groups are not infringed upon.

The main driving force behind this development is the East Telemarcian Seraphic Church, erected as a palatable alternative to the harsh and radical Korahlian Seraphic orders. The church promotes the "Conversion Through Compassion" doctrine, where relaxed and inclusive policies attract non-Seraphic individuals to Seraphic events and communities where they will connect with the Church on a political level, hopefully evolving into participation either for them or for their children. Part of this objective is the use of Seraphic education, with the Church heavily subsidizing schools to attract better professors. As a superior alternative to public schools, these institutions will attract non-Seraphic students, who will then be exposed to the appealing rhetoric of the East Telemarcian Seraphic Order.

Churches are expected to open soon in South Daemondriael as Seraphic moderates flock to the new Church. Those tired of constant warfare and of the brutal tactics of the radicals find the new church extremely appealing, and this has resulted in many benefits for the Bailean state. The situation is made even more beneficial by the state's secular nature, which encourages Colossists to immigrate from areas where their rights are weaker.

- "Alternative to Kori Seraphicism"
- Describes itself as identiical to Kori Seraphicism

I assume this means Phobian Seraphicism (what the Kadi al-Seiv and Phobian Acolytes follow), not Orthodox, since there's nothing that radical about a varied and inclusive theory accessible by most people able to pick and choose their deities.

Relocation efforts officially begin today

With the entire EU at their fingertips, millions of Eucadians are heading to space, as Eucadia slowly heads towards 17 billion people.

Multiple spaceports across the Union and Eucadia are being used as relocation checks were dispersed today. Those who received a check have until the end of the year to move off planet.

Within six months, 100 million Eucadians will have been relocated to Atria or Saros. President Stone says he wants 2 billion off world by the end of his term.

“A lot of analysts say it can’t be done. But that’s what they said when we built the Citadel. History has proven that regardless of the monumental task, Eucadians have a knack for accomplishing anything when their minds are set to it.” said a relocation assistant.

The Off-World Development Fund has started construction on new lunar settlements. At the end of the year, major road and rail networks will have been constructed as well.

New Dawn, a lunar settlement home to 2.5 million, is rapidly expanding. Administrators say that New Dawn will be home to almost 23 million Eucadians within 6 months.

“We are building as fast as they come.” said one city official. “We are extremely excited to be working with Stone’s administration to ensure this is an easy transition for all.”

Eucadian consumerism expands throughout the EU

Eucadians are good for many things: we’re excellent builders, we love spending money, charity work is our favorite past time, and we love to consume.

Eucadian consumerism is unmatched. “It’s always a culture shock when you come to Eucadia. Right away, there’s ads in your face. Sales here, clearance racks there. It’s insane and if you’re not used to it, it can make you feel extremely overwhelmed.”

That’s true. In fact, according to the Consumer Report, Eucadians are exposed to over 4 billion advertisements, slogans, logos or other types of brand identity, every single day. From the swoosh on your shoes to the apple on your phone. Our TVs, phones, clothing, even your kitchen cabinets, have some sort of logo or identifiable mark.

And with the EU, Eucadian consumerism is now eastern consumerism.

“Many argue that Eucadians are numb to flashy lights and electronic billboards. But we have yet to see how this will affect consumers throughout the Union. As we’ve said, Eucadian consumerism is unmatched. The effects it’ll have are yet to be seen.” said a representative for the Consumer Report.

Hell on the Scyelekon
The Scyelekon River, Telemarcia
2nd Tactical Fighter Squadron "Orange"
0500 Hours

The Scyelekon (Waters of Scyellius) was named after the serpent of Seraphic legend, snaking from the heart of Braceport down through Perganzalee and opening into The Delek Gulf. It was a massive and vital waterway, providing fresh water to the states of Bailgean and Perganzalee, and fostering the growth their dominant plantations. It also provided a border between the Eastern States and those of the West, allowing the former to fortify its banks and protect their heartlands against aggression. The Scyelekon gave the East liberty, security and prosperity, and as such it was of the utmost importance both strategically and symbolically.

Patrolling the Scyelekon was a sign of prestige, and was only assigned to the most distinguished pilots. Today, the patrol would be undertaken by Orange Squadron, a three-fighter elements made up of Orange 1 "Emra," Orange 2 "Ges" and Orange 3 "Kolos." They were typically tasked with guarding the capitol, but recent tensions had warranted their deployment. This would soon prove to be prudent.

"Orange 1, we've got six bogeys incoming from the north-west. Move to intercept."

Orange confirmed and made a quick reversal, hitting their afterburners and travelling north as quickly as possible. Bailgean was by no means a wealthy nation, and the small collection of fighters it had were hard spread thin. Maintenance was increasingly becoming a luxury, with many aircraft making multiple consecutive sorties without much more than a once over by a mechanic. Even Orange Squadron's craft were in rough shape. As they strained to meet the hostiles to the north, their airframes groaned and creaked. Kolos' fighter began belching smoke from its right engine, and wavered in the air. The AWACS "Galzera" noticed and sighed into the mic.

"Orange 3, your craft is damaged. Return to base."

"Negative Galzera, it's minor."

"Get back to base Kolos. We need the plane more than we need martyrs."

Kolos switched off his transmitter out of frustration, but reluctantly slowed down and broke off from the formation gradually. Now down to two fighters, the Baileans continued North to meet the enemy over the river. Packing a mixture of small air-to-air missiles and unguided bombs, the fighters were almost certainly outnumbered and outgunned, a fact that became readily apparent as the next message came in from Galzera.

"Orange Squadron, the enemy has been identified by local forces as Gheltian bombers with four fighter escorts. They've begun bombing the town of Fal Hidea, probably trying to draw you into battle. Don't get too close, and stick together."

The enemy appeared on radar. Just as predicted, once the Baileans reached combat airspace, the bombers accelerated and bolted back West across the river while the escorts climbed. The damage to the town was extremely light; it was a trap. Undaunted, Emra and Ges nosed down towards the enemy. As they locked on and unleashed a first volley of missiles their MAWs began to scream into their headsets, the IFF beeping out an alert. With a voice suddenly drenched in panic, Galzera shouted out a warning.

"TEN ENEMIES APPROACHING FROM THE WEST! ORANGE SQUADRON BREAK!"

War Returns to Bailgean

"This is a Breaking News deviation from our scheduled programming. We go to Todd McSorley at Fal Hidea."

"Thanks Kalum. I'm standing here next to the smouldering wreckage of a fighter-jet, one of five shot down today in fighting over the Scyelekon River. The military has not yet confirmed the origin of the invading craft, but local National Militiaman Hugh Zeveyer has identified some of the wreckage as belonging to a Gheltian fighter aircraft. It has been disclosed that two Bailean aircraft were amongst those destroyed, while a third aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at a nearby civilian airbase. This is a significant escalation of the tensions along the border, which have not been resolved by the two wars of the past decade."

"Thanks Todd, we're going to go to Natasha Lofeld in Perganzalee, who has an update for us there. What's going on Natasha?"

"Well Kalum, as we know, the Bailean government is taking a cautious approach to the encounter, and has refused to speculate as to the origin of the attackers. Perganzalee's Parliament has, however, declared that war is imminent with the Principality of Ghelt. They have confirmed that any further attacks against Bailgean will be considered an act of war against Perganzalee as well, warranting a military response. The Parliament is encouraging Bailgean to retaliate against the assaults, which they claim are a blatant violation of the 2296 Treaty of Kel Aleua. Back to you Kalum."

"Thanks Natasha. For all our concerned viewers out there, we'll continue providing updates as the situation progresses. Please stay with us as we gather further information."
