Primo order

Remember to vote for Primo Order in the House of Commons general elections! || #New People, New Horizons! Here's my manifesto:

INTRODUCTION
Hi, I'm Primo order,
I'm in Thaecia from April 2020 and I want to do more for this fantastic region;
I am already trying to improve this region as a volunteer in various sectors, recruiter, soldier, Honorable Attorney (member of Thaecian Bar Association) and member of Thaecian Citizenship Verification Team, but I feel that it is not enough, I feel that I want to do more and it is with that that I have the honor and the joy to announce that: I will run for the general elections of The House of Commons of February 2021 as a member of New Thaecia Now!
I am really willing and eager to improve change this region for the better, I will leverage every single day as a member of parliament to improve and learn more and thus serve all of you better by gaining more and more experience.

Personal Informations!
-I'm
italian, so I use the LinkCET, Central European Time!
-As you will notice my favourite color is red!
MY OPINION ABOUT THAECIA
In a year that I am in the (declining) region I have really seen a lot of improvement and I believe that if we we're able to do what we have done in one year in my entire term as a member of parliament with my support and involvement we will be able to do much more and make this region shine like a diamond among the multity of regions that exist in NationStates and I believe that the only way to achieve this is to really put the maximum effort into it and not waste any second on our layout.
FOCUS ON POLICIES
During my term there will be two topics on which I will focus my work:
1.Strengthening the Democracy; Yes, you heard right, I think that we need to boost it because with the help of my Strengthening the Democracy plan, I'll make sure that everyone's voices are heard;
2.Maybe you've already figured it out, it's Decreasing the Bureaucracy; the bureaucracy slows down our work and, eliminating a few unnecessary procedures, we will be even more efficient, to return to serve you better and to improve the region. An example of what I would approve as a law that decrease the bureaucracy is the Congressional Reduction Act and all the laws related to it.
3.As my slogan says,(New People, New Horizons!) Pro-Newcomers Laws, because in this period I have seen how difficult it is for a newcomer to understand everything, go look for documents, read them all, have someone explain them to them and find them when they don't find them; I spent a week like this with a newcomer (Clarance heheh) who wanted to know everything about thaecia (history, politics, elections, laws, constitution etc.) and it seemed to be at war: clearly something needs to be done, that's why I personally support and promote this type of policy.
PROPOSALS OF LAW
In the previous paragraph I talked about the main topics on which I will focus my work in the House of Commons, but now I will go into the specifics and present my bills:

Proposals To Reach New Horizons

Topic

Reduction of Congress (Congressional Reduction Act)

Decreasing the Bureaucracy

Re-structure and Re-design of ministries (like Judiciary Reform Act)

Decreasing the Bureaucracy/Strengthening the Democracy

Strengthening the L.R.004 Position Restriction Act

Strengthening the Democracy

Outlaw military operations during elections (amend L.R.040 Military Commission Act)

Strengthening the Democracy

Re-structure of the Newcomers Introduction System

Pro-Newcomers Laws

CONCLUDING...
Having said that, I urge all of you to vote for me because the first step to reach our goal is to insert new faces in our politics because many of them really have many original and interesting ideas but not having the same experience as other names already known in Thaecia do not come highly regarded or in some cases have issues with the disorganised introduction of them in Thaecian Politics.

I probably won't be doing anything more in government from now on - so I'm just going to say what my half-finished project is.

I've been working on creating a 'Thaecian Law Registry' course, however I will probably not finish it. I will probably log onto the EM nation later and get a little more done on it, but the rest will be up for whoever takes over after the election to do.

New Thaecia Now!

Foreword

Over the past few months, I've watched as our great region has slid into decline. The death of party politics, initially heralded as a crowning achievement that would elevate its political discourse, instead led the region astray. Now the bland and inoffensive triumphs over the bold and spirited, often with pitiful amounts of votes and little enthusiasm to try new things. That's why I've decided to resist this backsliding by forming New Thaecia Now.

-Rhyssua

Who Are We?

New Thaecia Now is a catch-all, populist party dedicated to increasing regional activity and engagement, both in politics and culture. Everything we support, everything we stand for is designed to make the region more interesting, our elections more competitive, and just plain fun.

Domestic Policy

-We support decreasing the House. Seriously this should be a no-brainer. Right now, MPs are being elected with only 2 votes. Combined with the astounding number of low-effort, "safe" candidacies, this makes our elections uncompetitive and uninteresting. Should the House be decreased to 11, the Senate should similarly be decreased to 7, in order to preserve the distinction between the chambers.

-We support the increased presence of RP legislation in congress. The vast majority of bills presented today are either amended versions of existing laws, useless bureaucracy, or covering the minutiae of Thaecian law. While some of these bills can be important, they certainly aren't interesting to debate if the legislature's rmbs are any indication. While we of course support the passage of the Yogurt Viscosity Act, creative RP legislation has the potential to spark engaging debate and make being a legislator more than just busywork.

-We support the concept of RP Dependence. Many months ago, an RP independence movement cut it off from the rest of the region. The dispute, principally due to the Reformist debacle, ended long ago. By treating the RP as something tangential rather than integral to the region, activity and enthusiasm in the RP is lowered. An increased RP presence in the region can also help bolster recruitment and engagement for the region. To that end, New Thaecia Now proposes creating a nationstates forum roleplay. While the format is a bit unwieldy, a Thaecia-only thread on the forums can generate much-needed visibility for the RP and the region as a whole.

-An active, visible Culture Ministry is essential to our regional identity and promoting activity. The Ministry as a whole is a sleeping giant, with the power to invigorate the community. It should remain a Ministry, and should be staffed with active, capable people. With public consultation, the Ministry can revive Thaecian culture.

Foreign Policy

-Overall, New Thaecia Now leans globalist. While our government should of course prioritize the needs and desires of Thaecians, we've come a long way since our scrappy youth. Cooperation with other regions on events such as Paradoxical, joint military operations, and even the World Assembly all enhance Thaecia's reputation on nationstates. Furthermore, it provides opportunities for Thaecians to get involved in the region and the game as a whole, convincing them to remain active.

-We wholeheartedly support the Thaempirial Army. It's popular, a lot of fun for the people involved, and sets Thaecia apart from other UCRs in terms of recruitment. Past incidents are nothing more than growing pains in a new part of Thaecia, and will improve as time goes on. New Thaecia Now believes the Thaempirial Army should remain independent, however, and it should not conduct operations during elections.

-While the WA-wide recruitment telegrams had an undeniably positive effect on our growth as a region, future "tg nukes" could decimate our foreign relations. However, there is an alternative. Manual recruitment is very promising, and easy for all citizens to do with a few simple instructions and a format to copy. New Thaecia Now will encourage all Thaecians to manually recruit, and supports it as an alternative to more damaging methods.

Legal Policy

-Our judicial branch is in need of some drastic reform. We need active, capable justices who understand our constitution and legal code to replace those retiring.

-The court procedures were created with the best of intentions, but they need a serious rework to fix redundancies and make it an easier read. Furthermore, at least parts of the procedures should have some basis in actual law (such as the legal definitions/limits of pleas and some guide for punishments). Once in congress, NTN intends to pass a law containing this in addition to broad definitions of civil and criminal suits, designed to operate alongside the new legal code currently making its way through the legislature.

-Furthermore, the next court should undo several unwritten precedents that slow the branch and hurt the region. These include: only proceeding with one case at a time (even if that one case is moving far too slowly), rejecting cases based on authority to file (which will jointly be addressed in the above bill), not moving on cases based on a vacancy in the court (should the case be urgent, it needs to be addressed, even if the Court only stands at two justices).

-Lastly, a constitutional amendment setting a six-month term limit for justices could ensure that their performance is held to a high standard by the legislature. At the end of a Justice's term, they should have to face reconfirmation, allowing the legislature to hold them accountable without using the unwieldy device of impeachment.

-NTN believes that the constitution should include a preamble to state the document's goals, and believes the constitution itself is in need of a drastic overhaul to fix inconsistencies and poorly-thought out procedures.

Party Charter

-All members of New Thaecia Now will be equal partners within the party.

-Once a month, there will be an election for Chairman of the Party. The Chairman shall be the main party organizer, holding primary elections, organizing campaigns, and developing strategy.

-Once a month, there will be an election for Premier of the Party. The Premier is the ideological leader of the party, who is responsible for getting the New Thaecia Now agenda enacted by the region and recruiting new members.

-Any changes to the Party Charter must be approved by two-thirds of members.

Did I just reuse the same manifesto format? Yeah.
Hello there Thaecia! I hope y'all are doing great today, looking at this collection of no context quotes turned manifesto. Seriously guys, seven upvotes from just confirming I'll run? You're great. I hope you will read through all of this manifesto and see why I am running for the office of President. I'm a long term resident of Thaecia, joining on February 6 2019, only 15 days after the foundation of the region, and I have a lot to give back to this region.

To Thaecia, I am Brototh. To others on Discord, you will know me as Cinema. I have recently just finished up a term as Senate Chair and Senator. While regretfully some IRL circumstances that are almost entirely resolved encouraged me to retire, I have come back with a stronger resolve and dedication to serve Thaecia in such a high office. My last two terms as Senator propelled me to the status of most bills worked on2, with several more constitutional amendments, laws and such on the way. You can be sure I've got the experience and know how of our laws and institutions to serve you in this role.

The next four months will be extremely important. We have, in just under the last year, gone from "ugh, Thaecia", to a large and generally more respected UCR with some big friends at our side (not to put down our smaller embassies- ily guys still!), reformed our military, co-operated with regions we'd never thought we would before, gone through hardships internally and come out stronger than we went in, all through a difficult time for all of us. As we continue to adjust to a much more globalist view, with internal changes all the way, it is crucial our next President, Prime Minister and all other offices are led by visionary, respected, hardworking and dedicated personnel. I cannot stress how much I love this region, which is why I am working to make it as good as it can be.

I've had the pleasure of serving you as Secretary of Defence recently- with some troubles along the way, we have made a successful military organisation and I have been able to speak and co-operate with new international friends. Some people didn't think it could be done- but the military is seeing a great wave of activity thanks to all participants, our friends abroad, military officers and my friend Andusre.

To achieve my goal of President, and bring everything I can to the office and this region, I need your help and support. You'll see my manifesto and a full comprehensive list of my qualifications just below. I am proud to say I am running for President and hope you will strongly consider voting Brototh for President of Thaecia.

> Deputy Secretary / Deputy Minister of Roleplay: 19/05/2020 - Present
> Member of Parliament (first inaugurated 4th August 2019)
> Senator (first inaugurated 25th January 2020)
> Dep Admin Factbook Administrator (started 7th August 2020)
> Chairman of the Senate (won 31st August 2020)
> Secretary of Defence (confirmed 20th December 2020)

Manifesto
Senator Brototh standing by the Law Registry they just updated with a new law they wrote.
  1. Continue the regional military. We've seen a lot of support here- there's no contest. I hope to get the military a more similar relation to the roleplay, as we have seen recently that informing people that aren't even involved in the military causes risk to operation security (opsec), however I still support Senatorial oversight on the army.

  2. Continuing the WA Office. Recently we've seen a lot more support for a WA program and WA ministry than ever before. The Culture Ministry has done an excellent job setting up this program, and I hope to get it more involved with the Presidency. Recently I've been active in the WA debate, and I will be glad to integrate this program more with the Presidency as long threatened3 by Presidents past. The Presidency has always been the WAD role- it's time for the President to get more WA involved and make Thaecia a greater name in the WA.

  3. Incentivize endorsing the President and endotarting. Many regions hand out awards for endorsing the World Assembly Delegate and other important roles. We've seen a lot of success of these programs in foreign regions, and I will be setting up a program like this handing out awards, such as badges, to those who endorse the President and other important officials in the region. Endotarting is just as important, and we will be continuing the recent campaign that Andusre and others have spearheaded.

  4. Improve the Order of Thaecia. While not directly a Presidential thing- more in the hands of the legislative, it has been a topic long spoken about by Presidential candidates. As I have said before, the Order of Thaecia has become a retirement badge. While everyone who got it certainly has the qualifications for it, the motivation for being nominated is retiring. I plan to, similar to the system I have said above, hand out awards for Thaecians who have made special contributions in the last month. Hopefully, this will make the Order more special while still rewarding everyone for their contributions.

  5. Work closely with our newfound international allies. I will make sure that Thaecia formally and legally joins the Consortium via an international treaty signed by the Senate. While I'm not on board with the idea of a WA Voting Bloc and would rather put Thaecia's interests and the people's vote first, which we will opt-out of if there is one, I am open to any other form of international co-operation with our friends abroad.

  6. Pursue closer diplomatic relations with other regions. The President is often seen by outsiders as the one who calls all the shots. As President and face of the region, I can assure you I will be cool, calm and collected, working close with the Foreign Affairs Minister and others- as I have done as Secretary of Defence- to continue this growth of international friendship brought on by the FAM and crew in the last few months. We want more diplomatic relations with more regions, and to grow a closer bond with them and establish embassies and cooperate more. The more close friends we have, the merrier.

  7. Work closely with the Cabinet. I am a long term Islonia supporter, however I will be glad to work with a Cabinet formed by any other Prime Minister. The Executive branch can only succeed when it has strong cohesion- and I am prepared to work with the Cabinet as much as I can so the government can successfully fulfil her mandate. I will also make sure to work closely with the legislative- being part of it for so long I'm glad to lend them and any hopeful authors my assistance in writing a bill.

  8. Improve Discord welcoming. I had an interesting conversation with Toerana V yesterday. He raised a point that upon being welcomed to the Discord, he did not recieve any form of introduction into the region, which he rightfully believes can be confusing to newcomers, who join through Discord rather than the more conventional means of the RMB, where Zon island does an excellent job. The discord already has Andusre and a few others introducing newcomers to the WA, getting them to endorse TMS, and sometimes dropping a Thaecia Simplified dispatch, but it ends there. An IC body must be doing the welcoming, not a loose and rather unorganised gathering. We complain a lot about inactivity, perhaps a good way to resolve it would be by introducing newcomers to our full form of government and culture through the Discord, which is more interactive and immediate, than the RMB, which is not. This is something I plan to do regardless of electoral victory or not (although it will be harder to set up an IC body if I do not win).

Thank you all for taking the time to read my platform. Again, I hope you will strongly consider voting me for President. If there are any questions you want to ask me, then know that I am ready to take any questions. Vote for whoever's policies you believe in- don't vote based on popularity and endorsements, which is why there is no endorsement section here- as long as you remember to vote!!

1- Korsinia did not actually say that or endorse me, I just wanted another cool song lyric.
2- Link to the Thaecian legislative leaderboard- may be slightly out of date.
3- As far as I can tell, every Thaecian president has promised this but have not personally set it up nor run it. I commend The Marconian State for helping to grow this platform though, I appreciate he listens to our votes and casts his accordingly.

The Islamic Country of Honour’s Roadmap For The Region In The Next Four Months as Prime Minister

This roadmap has been created by The Islamic Country of Honour, the Home Affairs Minister from July 2020 up until now, and a former Senator from August 2019 to October 2019, and again from November 2019, to January 2020

Credit goes to Rivogna for this really nice flag Masha'Allah!

Why I am calling it a roadmap, instead of a manifesto?

Manifestos have in the recent past, gained notoriety for being associated with promises not meant to be kept and just mere election gimmicks, but I don’t want it to be like that. I want this dispatch to serve as material that will guide me on how I’ll progress with the mandate I am seeking. I want this dispatch to be a roadmap to the immediate future of our region.

What is my main aim during these four months?

My prime focus will be on fixing the issues concerning our internal affairs. For too long, we have only relied on Foreign Policy and Legislative success to push us ahead, but what’s the use of legislating if we can’t build a strong internal core. Whenever one goes to NS Politics on Discord, most would see foreign affairs issues or legislative issues being discussed but it’s about time we also finally take the initiative of rejuvenating the Executive through strengthening its internal components. For us to improve on the gains we have made so far Alhamdulillah, it’s imperative for us not to become complacent and always focus on improving to the next level. Sky’s the limit after all! ! Strengthening ourselves internally will also make us stronger on the foreign stage, so that’s the approach we should take. We can’t give a second preference to our internal components anymore.

Explaining the Structure of the Executive

The Cabinet: The cabinet will be the most important organ of the Executive, and thus the main decision-making body of The Executive Branch. The four ministries under it will be the Ministry of Home Affairs, Culture Ministry, and Justice Ministry, and Foreign Affairs Ministry. Each Ministry will be led by a Minister appointed by the Prime Minister and they will be assisted by a Deputy Minister. As Prime Minister, I will encourage my Ministers to prioritize delegating tasks to its staff rather than making two-three people do all the work. This leads to efficiency as the work will be done faster and not only that, it also leads to greater participation of the citizens in the Ministry’s works, thus ensuring an engaged citizenry. I will, however, leave it up to the Ministers to determine how they decide to set their Ministry up, as, in my view, they should be given adequate operational independence while the Prime Minister will keep a regular look at the progress of each Ministry to ensure they are putting in their best!

The Secretariats: The Secretariats will be the second-most important branch of the Executive. There will be two secretariats, Secretariat of Role-play and Worldbuilding, and Secretariat of Defense. They will be semi-autonomous organizations, which means they’ll be mostly independent of the Cabinet, and will be allowed to chart their own course by themselves. They will be led by a Secretary, and the Secretary will have the final say on how he/she wishes to organize his/her secretariat. The Prime Minister will only intervene in their affairs if it affects the functioning of any other Ministry of the Cabinet.

The PMO Departments: The PMO Departments will be run directly from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and it will be headed by a person delegated by the PMO. The Head of the Department will not be confirmed by the Congress (which also saves the time of the Congress) and will be appointed by the PM. The PM will be in charge of working out all the details of such departments.

Executive-Wide Initiatives

Develop a decent second-rung of leadership: As we have seen in the last few terms, despite new citizens thronging into our region, we haven’t quite been able to shed our dependence on the older citizens to lead the departments/ministries. This might create a big leadership vacuum in the future once these older citizens retire/take a break. Keeping this in mind, I’ll take the initiative to ensure every Ministry develops a contingency plan in case this arises in the future. Every Ministry shall take the initiative to develop two individuals who they feel can take the Ministry’s reins in the future and ensure they are prepared to lead a Ministry by the end of their four-month tenures. They’ll be required to inform the Cabinet of the progress of these two individuals and the Prime Minister will closely monitor it as well. This will ensure we don’t have any lack of leadership when we need them the most.

Developing an engaged Executive Staff: As we have seen in the last few months, the interest in serving in the Executive has been at an all-time low, despite sufficient advertising. We need to bring a quick-fix to this as the Executive can’t survive without a disengaged and diminishing staff. For this, I plan to create some incentives for them to serve. I plan to create a points-based system where every staff will get a point earned for every task they accomplish and there will be a leadership board created and the top 3 accomplishers will be rewarded at the end of each time period, for say, one month. This will create an environment of excitement and motivate them to participate more, besides, motivating them as well. We also need to remove the perception that the Executive isn’t a better career launching pad than the Legislative Branch. The truth is that Primary executive jobs like Ministers, Secretaries, are far more prestigious jobs than Senators/MPs, and I’ll adhere to an informal rule that someone who has never worked in the Executive will not be considered for the post of a Minister. We need to create a perception that the Executive jobs make someone better-prepared for further success in the region, which actually holds true for most of the people in the region.

Transparency: Now I know, this is something that is a bare minimum for any administration that is in place. But still, I wanted to address this issue, as you should know every inch of my possible administration’s policy. Many of the times, the public is not aware of the work/programs a Ministry has been undertaking and creates a gap between the public and the administrators, which should undoubtedly be bridged. Under my watch, each ministry of the cabinet will release a dispatch detailing the works that have been done on their part in the last one month, and this allows the public to know what the Ministries, that are integral organs of the Executive, are up-to. Monthly reports will be sent out for each Ministry on the 7th of every month!

Legislative-Executive Relations: I strongly believe that if there exist any legal issues which need to be solved by amending/creating a law, the first thing that the Ministry should do is establish contact with the elected lawmakers and work on a solution to the existing problem. I am a strong proponent for legislative-executive relations, and believe both the branches should work together when we have an issue on hand that concerns both the branches, rather than one branch sidestepping the other. That being said, in the recent past, I have seen legislators voting for bills that force Executives to implement ideas that they don’t have any plan for. My message to those legislators: “If you want to ensure your executive ideas are implemented, work in the Executive. You can’t expect to sit in the Congress and change the Executive from there” If the legislators don’t hesitate to steamroll their ideas onto us, I won’t also hesitate to veto the bill if I can. There should be co-operation between both the branches. Period.

Secretariats

Secretariat of Defense
:
My stance on the alignment of our Military: I strongly believe that the military should be independent when the issue of alignment comes to fore. As a region who’s just newly experimenting with a military, which has since received much public support in the past few days, we should give the Military the flexibility to operate and choose its own alignment, and if we declare a stance early on without even experimenting, it might undo months and years of hard-work. Without experiment or taking a look first, we can’t decide what the best is for us, and what’s best for other regions might not be the best for us.

Continuing our co-operation with militaries of our allies: It’s worth noting that only a tiny percentage of the people in the region, has adequate knowledge about R/D, and given the rising interest in the military, we need to give the new participants in our military sufficient experience which can be attained only through co-operation and collaborating with allies who have had militaries for years now. The military of Thaecia is in infant stages, and we need ample experience before we can organize a large operation on our own.

Work on citizenship reforms to ensure the Military personnel don’t face problems with the citizenship:
I am going to admit, something we all know, that when the citizenship system was decided, the authors didn’t keep in mind the possible addition of a regional military, due to which the current citizenship system heavily disfavors those who serve in our regional military. Within a week of assuming office Insha’Allah, I’ll seek to sit with all the stakeholders in this issue, the Military, the Home Affairs Ministry and the Legislators, and find a solution to this significant problem by the time the midterms strike. For our military to succeed, it’s imperative we create a fair environment for them.

Secretariat of Roleplay and Worldbuilding

This secretariat won’t experience much of a change from the running tenure, except for one glaring one. The Prime Minister and the Cabinet, will not interfere in the affairs concerning this secretariat. I have however decided to add the worldbuilding aspect to the secretariat, giving it an official recognition which will help it to attract more residents while also opening up one more way to get involved in the region for those who are interested. The only change, thus, will be official recognition of the unofficial regional worldbuilding which has been going on for some time.

The Cabinet

The Ministry of Home Affairs

Increasing the proportion of manually sent recruitment telegrams
Manual recruitment not only has the advantage that it doesn’t involve the spending of IRL money, but it’s also much more effective. Manually sent recruitment telegrams are more likely to reach the newly created nations faster than the stamp and API telegrams, and thus our conversion rate will undoubtedly be higher for manual tgs and we’ll also get to recruit a higher number of nations Insha’Allah. Now, I understand the apathy of the people to participate in it. So, I’ll take a top-to-down approach, I’ll highly encouraged my appointed Ministers and Secretaries to send atleast 10-20 manual telegrams a day, and perhaps, will encourage the Congress to take up such an initiative, so once the common citizens see the top brass of the region engage themselves in these, they’ll also be encouraged to participate. And manually sent recruitment telegram is the safest choice at any time. For example, in our region, it’s safe to say 75-80% of the stamps donated to us are from Andusre, but if for some reasons, he would have to stop that for some time, imagine the decline in recruits, even though we have an API recruitment program running at the same time. So, it’s imperative we lessen our reliance on stamp telegrams and switch a little bit to manual recruitment.

Improving on the Data and Statistics Departments
I can say from my experience, the Data and Statistics Department has helped me a lot when making decisions, and most importantly, it helps in assessing the progress we as a region have made in terms of WA population growth and everything. It also helps in ensuring transparency as the citizens can now judge the performance our region in recruitment and can raise concerns based on that. I’ll absolutely continue that, and will also add more cool stuff to it, like graphs, charts, bars and many more graphics, Insha’Allah! This will help in allowing the citizens to compare the stats more easily and will help to raise their interest in checking these stuff out more.

Extending the Welcome Team’s operations to Discord
Both, Mr. Toerana and Mr. Brototh, had raised the suggestion that our welcoming new nations initiative should be expanded to Discord as well since a significant number of players make their way to our region through our server, and they might fail to receive the same level of welcome the people who join through NS, get and this is unfair for them, when they could be as valuable as the members we get through the conventional ways. It’ll function in the same way as the RMB Welcome Team does, with a set number of nations assigned to assist them through their initial stages of their life in Thaecia.

The Justice Ministry

Revamping the Bar Council Exams and the Bar itself in co-operation with the relevant authorities
Nowadays, bar council exams are just a mere formality. However, it should not be like that. We need to ensure every attorney is well-qualified and will be able to serve any client they are asked to. IRL, Bar Council Exams are usually the most competitive exams out there and a place in the council is of high prestige, but it’s not that case in Thaecia. So, the Justice Ministry will work with the relevant authorities and make the exams a lot more competitive, there will not be just some straightforward MCQs, but hypothetical case questions, to which they’ll answer what they should do and why, and many more challenging questions! That’ll also generate some much-needed interest in our judicial affairs and improve the quality of our attorneys.

A separate team to monitor the legality of any law passed, and any possible interpretational problems
At times, we see that, some very vague sections/sub-sections exist, which can be interpreted in a way most of the people or the author didn’t intend it to be, for example, the earlier clause about the reduction of the Congress. At the same time, we sometimes also notice that there are some issues with the legality of some bills which have already passed the Congress without the congressmen noticing the flaw. The Law Ministry will have a team who’ll skim through the bills and see if any legal problem might arise out of them, and search for solutions or reach out to the Court for further rulings.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Continuing with our efforts to strengthen relations with like-minded regions and the expansion of our presence on the foreign arena
In the last 7-8 months, we went from having an isolationist foreign policy to having embassies with some of the largest and most prestigious regions, so it’s safe to say it’s one sector I am highly pleased with, credit to the authorities responsible for it in the last 8 months. I’ll not seek a change in that status and will continue the efforts currently being carried out by the Foreign Ministry to boost relations with our allies, and at the same time, build relations with more regions at the same time. Isolationism is a thing of the past, and we are certainly not going to look back!

Creation of a scouting team to check for regions who have the same ideology as us and with whom, we can establish relations
NationStates has a huge number of large sized UCRs(with 150-200+ nations), and we have established regions with only a slight percentage of those regions, and it’ll be very difficult for the Foreign Minister to search and vet these regions, besides doing the bureaucratic works he/she is supposed to deal with, so a scouting team can assist him and the Foreign Affairs council, in working on this side. This idea was proposed by Tavallo, back then, I had opposed the bill because I felt and I still feel the Legislative Branch shouldn’t legalise something which can be done by the Executive without a law instead, and doesn’t force successive executives to add a department they might not have plans for, but in theory, the idea was a pretty good one, which I am looking forward to seeing in the next Foreign Affairs Ministry Insha’Allah.

The Culture Ministry

Events every three-four days, not only during special occasions!
To keep our citizens entertained, the role of the Culture Ministry is imperative. To ensure this, we need to have an all-week or all-month schedule detailing the events being planned to be undertaken so the citizens can know when they can look forward to the events and remain motivated for the whole time. And at the same time, we need to ensure every citizen are actually made aware of the events that are gonna take place, and thus proper advertising also needs to be conducted at the same time. We’ll also at the same time, have a Cultural Affairs Council, who’ll be responsible for chalking out the plans and proposing new ideas!

Cultural Exchange Tours
As you know, cultural affairs needs an influx of ideas at all times, and these might be provided by Cultural Exchange tours to other regions, by this, our sponsored citizens can travel to an assigned region and witness the cultural events that region holds and take the positives from it, and suggest it to us. At the same time, we’ll also have some cultural exchange tourists from foreign regions, which also lets them know more about Thaecia and also plays a role in making us known to more and more people!

The PMO Departments

ThaeciaU

ThaeciaU, like the Thaecian Military, has had a rocky start since its inception and like how the Military was removed at one point, many people are also asking for its suspension. But it’s an institution which is worth a final try, it might be that the ThaeciaU could face a resurgence in its fate just like the TEA Insha’Allah. I am however removing it as a Ministry, as I don’t believe, there should be a ministry to oversee one single institution (the university), the Congress will also not have to confirm an additional Minister and thus will have its time saved and also, having it as a PMO department will also allow us to have much more flexibility in handling it.

It will not be as huge and widely-targeted as it was in the first stages of the inception of the ThaeciaU. It will mainly focus on educating the newly created nations on these courses: Thaecian Laws, Foreign Affairs, Recruitment, History. The History Course will consist of a factbook, and once the factbook is read, there will be an exam taken at the end, consisting of MCQs and Short Questions. Recrutiment and Foreign Affairs courses will have a teacher-to-students interaction model, meaning the classes will be held through text messages where the teacher will provide the lesson and students will ask their questions and respond accordingly. Meanwhile, for the Thaecian Law, I’ll discuss with the Justice Ministry and decide what the best way to impart the lessons is. This will help to ensure the new nations are aware of almost 75% of the things that goes on in Thaecia and makes them capable officers in the future.

The concept of an educational institute has helped some, like Nova Anglicum, as they said they learnt a lot from the educational factbooks, so by not abolishing it, I’ll be ensuring future newcomers are provided with an institution that ensures they are up-to-date with all the things in Thaecia Insha’Allah, if this pilot run succeeds, it will play a huge role in developing our future leaders and strengthening our internal affairs.

Finishing Lines

The next few months are gonna be vital for us, it’s the last full tenure before the summer slump, so we should make sure we make the best out of it! If you liked the ideas and the roadmap I have created, make sure to support me Insha’Allah, but most importantly, make the right choice! May Allah bless you all :)

Lots of campaign manifestos popping up but not much of anything else. So let’s get something going, I’m torn between the President candidates, so it would be good to get a few responses. I would put this in campaign central but I felt that this is a general question that the region should be able to easily see. So I have a couple of questions to all candidates for President:

1. The WA is a key part of the role as President, but doesn’t play a key part in the region. How will you bring newer members of the region into the WA and try to increase the influence of Thaecia in the WA?

2. The President plays a role in the PM’s cabinet but not as a fully fledged minister. As President, what responsibilities are you willing to take on, eg. recruitment, welcomes?

Hopefully this sparks a bit more interesting conversation about this election, because I’m bored of seeing meaningless manifesto posts again and again without any substance

Bringing new members into the WA is always a challenge- no matter what region you go in. I find a lot of newer WA members (people that join without WA and then get it) come from the Discord- where we have a lot of interaction with people and can encourage them to join the WA more. In my manifesto, I've already promised to further increase Discord welcoming, which should even further make Discord involvement a key part in getting new WA members.

Of course, not everyone uses Discord- I respect that- our former President did not use Discord for the entierty of his term. I love the welcome team, Zon island, Nova Anglicum and those helping from behind the scenes have done a great job. I think, however, it can indeed be improved on the WA front. The messages briefly mention it, and I don't think that the brief mention will get people to join so quickly. That's why Discord is so good, because it's instantaneous, easy, and fast communication. A lot more RMB activity would help with this, which I hope to see come in the next 4 months, regardless of if I win or not.

Simply put; we need more RMB engagement for newer members joining the WA. Hopefully as more people post here to ask to join the WA, and to further welcome and integrate newcomers, it will encourage people to post on the RMB even more. Another thing, which I did not too long ago, is sending out regular reminders for newcomers to join the World Assembly, which is only really possible from a financial standpoint if you have communications authority.

Pap sculgief wrote:and try to increase the influence of Thaecia in the WA?

1b. To continue on from the first half of your question, while a lot of what I have said is in the above already, I have promised awards, such as badges, to be handed out to nations that endorse the President and Cabinet. Programs like this have seen success in other regions. Additionally, endotarting and endorsing the Prime Minister and their Cabinet (if applicable) is just as important, and these will be advertised as well with the same kind of incentivsation programs.

Hopefully we can get to talking with other regions as well about WA cooperation- while I am opposed to a WA Voting Bloc- it would be nice to have some cross-region involvement, for some fun and FA bonuses at the same time. I also want to get more Thaecians involved in the World Assembly as a whole, right now we only have one or two citizens actively participating in the World Assembly. It would be a great thing to see more Thaecians involved, and building more of a name for ourselves out there.

As President, I've already planned that I will personally be getting more involved in the WA system, and I hope that some Thaecians can come along with me. Further on this, should the WA Program see success, I'd like to see it set up as a Ministry, or something similar under the President [it wouldn't make much sense for the WA Ministry to not be under the WAD], and at the start of my term I will be setting up a small IC body to expand over time for more WA involvement.

Pap sculgief wrote:2. The President plays a role in the PM’s cabinet but not as a fully fledged minister. As President, what responsibilities are you willing to take on, eg. recruitment, welcomes?

2. Recruitment is more of a tough question- I don't have a massive source of income myself, but I know other Thaecians do, so I thank them first of all for their involvement. Occassionaly, I make the odd stamp purchases, and I can redirect these to Thaecia easily. I'd likely be giving this over to people that have these sources of income and/or buy stamps/recruit more often, so they can send out telegrams in larger batches to more nations.

As said in 1a., I will be seeking to expand the Welcome Office to communicate to newcomers on the Discord and RMB more than just the simple one or two messages we have now. For the legislative branch, I will gladly lend a hand to anyone authoring or amending a bill, considering my large legislative experience, and for the executive branch, whether Islonia or ICH win, I will be working closely with the Cabinet in all decisions. The Executive branch cannot succeed if it does not communicate and is not cohesive.

The role of President is, as others have described it, "Chief Diplomat", being the face of our region. I hope to leave a lot of FA decisions to the FAM, considering it is their job, but I will be using my position to help expand and maintain our interregional alliances/friendships. I'm not sure if this is quite what you meant by what responsibilites I will take on- but I thought it would be a good idea to fit in my promises for a more active President in the Foreign Affairs department, rather than kind of the idle spoke when spoken to (no offence to TMS, of course; I haven't disliked the last 4 months, but that is how it comes across to me and many others) that we are going through right now.

These are both excellent questions that I'm glad you've asked, Pap!

1. Even if I'm not elected President, and especially if I am, I intend to write legislation which codifies the WA program into law. Now, that doesn't have much effect gameside save perhaps for our recommendations posted on the WFE. However, I sincerely want it to. One of the things which will help us first and foremost is keeping a consistently high rate of endotarting. I'm privy to that data, as I'm the one collecting it, and we average roughly 76% or so endorsing Marco....and then 43% or so endorsing Biggs. The first way to shore up our position in the WA is endotarting. It is literally true that every endorsement, especially of the Delegate, helps our power in the body grow. Being able to affect a close vote, even if occasionally people think of us as a wee bit of an upstart, is something which will at the very least demonstrate that we're committed to the WA, that we're focused on it, and will show that we have what it takes to influence the way things transpire.

I'm also a strong believer that we do have the talent to write in both councils of the WA and if Thaecians saw their friends with stuff at vote, they'd want to encourage it to. My platform literally states that I want at least one new Thaecian author to have authored a resolution by the end of my term (~July 1). With my opponent already expressing interest in trying to write in the Security Council and with others like Cirrus Azale, and doubtless a few others, ready to write, plus the influence of mentors we have who could potentially work with the interested (such as Maowi, Whatermelons, etc.), I see this as a really doable goal. Getting Thaecians interested and engaged with the work of the World Assembly is, in my opinion, a matter of them seeing people they know and recognize having things come to vote.

The final pillar of the work I would undertake as President in regards to getting Thaecians involved in the WA is expanding the impact of the nascent program gameside. While I know there may be some who are opposed to something like the South Pacific's OWL system, having a region or a forum (even if on our own RMB! which would also stimulate activity here!) to discuss WA proposals and where people can make their opinions known, with some affect on the Delegate's vote will go quite far in hopefully making Thaecians appreciate and be engaged with the World Assembly.

2. As for how I plan to be engaged with the region otherwise, and where I plan to help out, I'm already quite a prolific recruiter, especially with stamps (which I will continue to do though this is obviously dependent on my own financial situation). I want to get involved too with welcoming people into the region if elected because I think having the knowledge that people of the top are invested in your involvement is a way to not only recruit more people but also to retain more people. I'd also like to work to make the office of the President more visible and more involved in the fun. While I'm not exactly the biggest participant in things like the Late Nite Festival, I'd absolutely work with the executive to increase the reach, the scope, and the impact of events on our international standing.

Another thing I'd love to do as President is to inaugurate a Thaecian Cards Guild. This has absolutely long been a dream of mine, but why not prove that even a mid-sized UCR can help everyone build their dream deck! I know that some detractors of the plan see a potential pitfall in terms of potential involvement, but I think that how many people are involved is not so much important in this endeavor so much as finding people who are dedicated towards helping to share their knowledge, their passion, and their love for an aspect of the game I'm one of the few Thaecians who's significantly involved in.

Put simply, I want to expand the role of the President from a role of head of state to head of community, working to expand our horizons in our involvement, what is possible from our region, and what opportunities we can provide to people in other regions who are potentially considering a move to our beloved region.

[Also sorry for not responding right away, was in class!]

About Me
I have been on NationSates since 2014 and joined Thaecia just over a year ago. During that time I've been an active member of the community by participating in regional discussion and activities. I was a member of the Government Site Team and Managing Editor and a political writer for the Federal Post. Once elected to the Senate I served as Deputy Chairman following the passage of the updated Senate Procedures. Following the resignation of Chairman Brototh I was elected to the position of Senate Chair. I also served as the Deputy Home Affairs Minister during The Bigtopia's term as PM. I founded the Thaecian Globalist Party in July which seeks to expand Thaecia's presence on the world stage.

Ideas, Policies, and Accomplishments
Citizen's Legislature
  • I strongly oppose a Citizen's Legislature. I feel that it would not be well organized while also decreasing overall participation in Legislative Politics and general activity. Overall I think a Citizen's Legislature is not a good idea.

    Thaecian Military

  • Despite being one of two Senators who opposed to original MCA I have changed my opinion. Over time the military has been proven to be something many Thaecians enjoy without the potential risks I worried about when I originally opposed it. Therefore I now fully support keeping our military. I also support maintaining our military's current unaligned status.

    The Legislature's Role in Military

  • I support the removal of the Legislature's ability to stop Operations. With operations being decided by experienced military and foreign affairs officials, the main reason why I supported the inclusion of this ability is gone. Furthermore, the recent efforts by some to prevent ops solely on ideological grounds has proven that these decisions should be left to the experts in Thaecian defense and foreign policy. I also now support removing the requirement that the legislature should be pre-informed about ops because if the ability to block ops was removed, informing the legislature would only pointlessly increase the threat to the security of the Operation

    WA Efforts for Thaecia

  • I believe an important aspect of trying to increase Thaecia's standing and influence on the international stage is the WA. I will try to encourage and help Thaecian citizens when writing their proposals for the WA. My goal is to create a community within Thaecia that can aid aspiring authors by providing suggestions for proposals they may have. I support the creation of a WA Ministry and the current WA efforts in Thaecia such as the WA program on the discord server.

    Judicial Terms

  • I support Judicial Terms as I feel this would keep justices active and accountable to the Thaecian people without forcing representatives to take the extreme option of impeachment.

    RP Legislation

  • I do not support allowing RP Legislation in the Thaecian Legislature. I think that RP Legislation would only clog up the system, delaying Senators and MPs from passing important legislation at a time when some chambers are already struggling to work through their dockets.

I'm Ermica, running for Senate this time!
As someone who has some experience in Thaecian government, I am trying to run for Senate under the TCU. I have been fortunate enough to serve as Assistant Electoral Commissioner, 3 term MP, and Shadow Speaker of the House of Commons. I'm always willing to help any Thaecian in need, and I would love to continue serving the region that has given me so much. As always, feel free to contact me through telegram or on Discord.

Ermica smashing libs on the Discord server

I chose to join the Thaecian Conservative Union because I believe it represents my views the best. Personally, I value transparency and honesty over all else when it comes to elected officials. That's why I will explain a few of my beliefs to you, the people of Thaecia.

-Foreign Policy: I am an isolationist. While I think interregional cooperation has some positives, I think that Thaecian interests and struggles should always come first.
-Congressional Confirmations: I support moving judicial confirmations to the House and Minister confirmations to the Senate. This change would speed up the House and improve efficiency.
-Recruitment: I support current recruitment efforts.

I want to make the Senate as effective as it can be. We've seen some petty behavior and a lack of dignity among some elected officials in the past, and I want the Senate to be a place of respect and cooperation. Vote for Ermica, for a better Senate.

Tenth Anniversary Commemoration, Third Philippine Olympics Successful

The Philippines as a refounded region traces its history back to January 17, 2011, when founders Puan Puri Naduk and Wolficity facilitated the process. In NationStates as a whole, however, the Philippines goes further back to 2003, with Elvaraland as the first World Assembly (WA) Delegate of the region. The initial population of the Philippines in 2011 was four.

Fast forward to 2021, the Philippines boasted a population of more than 100 members, a figure which had been sustained since last year. To commemorate the occasion, Delegate and President Ariusgrad hosted the 3rd edition of the Philippine Olympics, a tradition which began in July 2013. This year's regional meet, held on February 22 to 23, featured what was perhaps the largest contingent of participants with 12 nations from across the world sending their brave athletes to New Clark City.

As expected, the host nation Ariusgrad garnered the top spot as overall champion with three medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze). It was followed by Lanaograd (1 gold, 1 bronze), Manilenyos (1 gold), Emperio maharlika (1 silver), Geolagarta (1 silver), and Kalayaan and sabah confederacy (1 bronze). Meanwhile, middle-tier nations which also participated so wonderfully despite having won no medals received the Bataan Award as symbolic for their perseverance. The awardees were Fort ilocandia, Seludong, and United Adaikes.

The following is an excerpt from the host nation's closing remarks:

Ariusgrad wrote:Sports, as they say, is a great unifier and a harbinger of peace. Despite the competitiveness, we learn that we are all part of a shared community, with a shared history, and a shared affinity for the well-being of all. It is from the sportive tradition that we have derived hardworking heroes and dedicated heroines who represented the virtues of true champions. For as we enter these games in top form, so should we also have satisfaction that we face the best of the best fair and square. May the Philippines continue to be a beacon of liberty and a symbol of freedom, not only in the political sense, but also in every aspect of life as we know it. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Mabuhay ang mga atleta ng bayan!

Tenth anniversary celebrations also included remembrance of those who have fallen into inactivity throughout the region's long history, as well as planning for the future. For one, with the success of the Philippine Olympics which extended participation even beyond the region, international meets were eyed to be conducted on a more regular basis. Ariusgrad's emphasis on solidarity, sustainability, and anticipatory governance has also guided forward thinking for the next decade of the Filipino community here. Included in the agenda was raising leaders that will create leaders, as exhibited in the example of Lanaograd, who rose as Vice President of the United Regions Alliance under the active mentorship of Ariusgrad.

URA Signs Cooperation Deal with The North Pacific

On February 26, 2021, United Regions Alliance (URA) President Suvmia announced that the 30-strong alliance has signed a memorandum of understanding with The North Pacific (TNP). This agreement formalizes ties between the two entities, initiating an exchange of ambassadors and providing a foundation for future cooperation.

Signatories on the URA side were Founder Ellenburg, President Suvmia, and Vice President Lanaograd. Meanwhile, WA Delegate McMasterdonia and Foreign Affairs Minister Praeceps have signed on the side of The North Pacific.

New Membership Drive Shows Promise As Ariusgrad Builds Ties with the Pacifics

In line with tenth anniversary future planning, Delegate and President Ariusgrad has initiated renewed recruitment drive with Foreign Relations Minister Emperio maharlika and Media Relations Minister Kalayaan and sabah confederacy being the focal nations for the campaign. Since 2021 began, the average number of entrants to the Philippines was pegged at 20. In the first week of March alone, 8 new entrants were already recorded. However, Regional Affairs Minister Lanaograd noted that while new members were coming in, the region's staying power or the capacity to keep membership remained low.

In the week after Ariusgrad announced its intention to launch the recruitment campaign, average weekly membership was at 111 (February 1 to 7), a slight increase from 110 on January 23 to 30, but this has decreased to 107 last week (February 22-28) despite the successful Philippine Olympics being conducted at this time. Lanaograd, however, expressed hope that the boost of recent regional activity might have been delayed due to factors beyond the control of the regional government. It also added that keeping membership above 100 for so long despite the circumstances can be attributed to the stability provided by the Ariusgrad administration for the Philippines.

Meanwhile, international relations continue to be a priority for Ariusgrad as the embassy count nears 160. In a bid to streamline the process, the Philippines delegate has released two weeks ago an embassy policy for the Philippines. It has provided special exceptions to the criteria for members of the United Regions Alliance (URA) and the Philippine Council of Affiliated Regions and Institutions (PCARI). This was also meant to reinforce the longstanding principle of Ariusgrad that the Philippines is not an embassy collector, but a region actively seeking potential allies.

In relation to this, the Philippines had successfully restored ties with The North Pacific (TNP, which Ariusgrad had informal talks in the period 2012-2013) and The East Pacific (TEP, which maintained embassies with the Philippines in the period 2017-2018). The two regions are the second and third largest regions in the world, respectively, in terms of total number of member nations. The Philippines has also opened formal relations with the West Pacific (TWP), one of the largest regions in the world. While these regions in particular had a history of raiding the Philippines, the circumstances have changed since. In fact, TEP was one of the members of the massive defender coalition which assisted the Philippines in the famed Christmas Invasion, an operation that involved over 70 invader nations.

The Philippines has also expressed its interest to be part of the Partnership for Sovereignty (PFS), a World Assembly voting bloc founded by the region's longtime allies, namely 10000 Islands, the Rejected Realms, and the South Pacific. The PFS aims to "defend the values of self-determination, positive community, and respect for the World Assembly and its processes." While Ariusgrad has yet to hear about their decision, it has stated that the Philippines being a member would be a great boost for the cause of small- and medium-sized regions, which remains to be well represented in the august halls of the World Assembly. The delegate added that since it is a legislative bloc rather than a military organization, it saw that the power of ideals and principles would prevail as an aspect wherein the Philippines could actively contribute.

All of the PFS members currently have a membership of over 250 nations. It has also claimed at least 1,580 WA votes from its delegates, second only to the World Assembly Legislative League (WALL) and its estimated voting power of over 2,000. The URA, which the Philippines has been an active member since last year, registered some 550 votes from its delegates.

Philippines Delegate Voting Power Drops in March with Forces Dispersed for Overseas Missions

In a delegate voting power ranking released by Augustin Alliance, the Philippines dropped 24 places from 119th last month to 143rd in the world as of March 3. In a statement, Ariusgrad attributed this decline to overseas defense missions which the Philippines had committed to. This included a contingent for the much-watched liberation of The Embassy, the largest embassy collector region in the world prior to being invaded, as well as operators sent for rebuilding efforts of at least two small regions. Meanwhile, the delegate has assured that the region's World Assembly membership campaign remains ongoing as efforts continue to pour for the development of new members.

In a related development, the Philippines retained 100 percent delegate endorsement rate in the past two weeks. The remarkable endorsement levels of the Philippines was attributed to one of Ariusgrad's early defensive principles, that of cross-endorsement. While looked down by the region's members back in Ariusgrad's early years as Delegate (it was first elected in 2012) because it theorized a critical mass of at least 20 percent WA membership in proportion to total population and a minimum of 80 percent delegate endorsement rate, the significance of such best practice was seen in action with high influence levels reinforcing a tally of historic defenses. From 23 members above the influence level of 3,000 last month, the Philippines has now registered 24 members in the same level.

PDF, PEFToN Leads Kalayaan War Games

Through the initiative of Philippine Defense Force (PDF) Teniente Letnan and Philippine Expeditionary Force to the Nations (PEFToN) Commander Fort ilocandia, the Philippines has conducted military exercises dubbed as the Kalayaan War Games through an external platform. Done in conjunction with the commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution from February 22 to 25, the War Games saw the engaging participation of 16 of the PDF and PEFToN members to strengthen the region's defensive capacity, camaraderie, and internal coordination. Approved by Ariusgrad, the PEFToN is the affiliated fortress unit of the PDF dedicated mainly to overseas missions and regional defenses. Before the PDF and PEFToN, local affiliated units reporting to the Philippines Delegate such as the Philippine Army had been conducting both regional and global defense operations.

PCARI Admits Independent Defender as New Member

Inaugurated on February 8, 2021, the Philippine Council of Affiliated Regions and Institutions (PCARI) was spearheaded by Ariusgrad with the Philippines as lead region to further embrace the growing Filipino community in NationStates. The latest member to join was the defender region The Remiferian Armed Forces, established by Remiferia on October 5, 2020 as a peacekeeping force. This development was seen as affirmation to the mission of PCARI as an inclusive consultative body for Philippine-themed regions and institutions all over the world.

Feature: Filipino Characters in Popular Anime

Barangay 143, aired on local television in 2018, and produced by ASI Animation Studios and TV Asahi, may be considered as the first Filipino-created anime. It featured a Filipino cast and a setting in the Philippines. However, Filipinos have also been featured in Japanese anime for quite some time. The following would be a few of them.

Mari Mutoh of Japan Sinks 2020 hailed from Cebu City. In her younger years, she was a swimmer. Later on, she worked in a resort hotel. Her surname came from her husband, lights engineer Koichiro Mutoh.

The cheerful and gentle Shirley of Fate/Zero was a master's degree holder at the age of 13. She was a resident of Alimango Island, supposedly part of Negros Occidental, where Kiritsugu Emiya was also raised.

From left to right: Eleki Battery was the Filipino junior lightweight champion who fought Tatsuya Kimura to a draw in Hajime No Ippo (locally known in the Philippines as Knockout). Morris West, believed to have been based in real life Filipino boxing world champion Morris East, was the Filipino middleweight champion who lost to Mamoru Takamura in a championship qualifier. Nefuma Ozca was also a Filipino boxer in the junior lightweight division. He was ranked 5th when he lost to Kimura.

Feature: Filipino Words That Were Probably Loaned From Other Countries

Considering the geographical and strategic place of the Philippines in history, it would not be a wonder how Filipinos managed to incorporate a number of foreign concepts as their own. The variety, however, might be more or less surprising with this feature of loan words that were originally not Filipino (in the order from left to right: English - other foreign language - Filipino).

    Spanish (Spain)
    airplane - aeroplano - eroplano
    window - ventana - bintana
    eagle - aguila - agila
    ice - hielo - yelo
good fortune - buena suerte - buena mano

    Sanskrit (India)
    delay - antara - antala
    deception - dvaya - daya
    poor - dukkha - dukha
    fiction - katha - katha
    topic - paksha - paksa

    Cantonese (China)
    vermicelli - bihun - bihon
    gold - kimtiau - ginto
mung bean cake - hopia - hopia
    celery - khinchai - kintsay
spring rolls - lunpia - lumpia

    Feature: COVID-19 Information Campaign

As early as January 2020, Philippines Delegate Ariusgrad had been concerned about the spread of COVID-19, still known then as nCov (novel coronavirus). Therefore, it had initiated an extensive awareness and information campaign in the region to help fight the said disease, considering even to this day, there were still variables of the illness which remain beyond human knowledge so far. This space is dedicated for the campaign, featuring a helpful infographic from Statista, utilizing various sources for its data.

    New Government Appointments

~Following a shocking investigation into Taco Island Mayor Louisistan’s failure to use the official yacht as directed by the Mayor’s Private Yacht Act of 1955, Louis handed in his Linkresignation as mayor. Chief Executive Markanite appointed Tanzoria as the Linknew mayor, to oversee forum spam and games. Thank you, Louis, for your convivial leadership of Taco Island, and congrats Tanzoria!
~Markanite also appointed Free Las Pinas as the new LinkPresident of the XKI Cards Co-op, after HumanSanity stepped down. As President, FLP will help to coordinate regional card farming efforts and direct the donation of cards to various cultural events and competitions.
~Then Secretary of State Margaux hired Porflox as XKI’s new emissary to Spiritus, Sulenia as emissary to Greater Dienstad, and Eastern New England as emissary to Deutschland.
~The new Minister of Education Free Las Pinas hired Sulenia to serve as his deputy and assist in coordinating the welcome and assistance of new members of the region.

    Around the Islands

~February’s LinkFeatured Nation was Porflox, a newcomer to the islands who has already shown their talent as a recruiter, TITO Member, and the region’s new emissary to Spiritus. Congratulations Porflox, we’re excited to see where you’ll go next!
~Cultural Officer Thedairos announced the LinkBest Flag Competition this February, where members and friends of the region could submit their flag designs via a forum thread or an on-site TG, after which Islanders voted for their favorite design. With 22 gorgeous flag designs to choose from, competition was fierce, but in the end, Grea Kriopia’s flag won the forum competition, and Megistos flag won the on-site competition. Congrats to the winners and a round of applause for all contestants for their creativity and amazing flag designing skills!
~XKI’s LinkForum Theme Design Competition continued throughout the month of February. Interested Islanders were given the chance to submit their own ideas for a new forum design, in hopes that their submission might be chosen as an actual theme for the regional forum. Four intrepid designers tried their hand at making a forum theme. Free Las Pinas showed an eye for pleasing pink with his LinkPastel Palms Theme. Pianaville lifted our spirits with their bright LinkBeach Theme and Comfed channeled the spirit of the ocean with their LinkSurf of the Islands Theme. Finally, Silvedania got us all ready for summer vacation with their LinkSand and Water Theme. The Council of Nine is currently deliberating which of these gorgeous designs to pick, so stay tuned to find out the competition winner next month!
~Perhaps prompted by the new Mayor Tanzoria, there has been a resurgence of spammy chat threads in Taco Island. Chaos reigned as Islanders debated whether or not Linkthis is a Starbucks, fired Linktrebuchet projectiles at one another (and the mayoral mansion), and re-opened LinkThe Tanzoria Asylum for the Criminally Insane. And yes, the asylum is named after the new mayor, perhaps explaining why Taco Island has been so crazy as of late. Regardless, Islanders new and old enjoyed the excitement and got to spamming like never before!
~In celebration of The Partnership for Sovereignty, XKI, TRR, and TSP joined forces to host a trading card pull event. The event was centered around commended defenders, and participants had the chance to get S1 Improving Wordiness, Ballotonia, and Eluvatar cards. Eager to try their luck, members of all three regions spent the afternoon card farming and opening up card packs, with several participants striking gold and gaining a copy of these sought-after cards.

    Islander Achievements

~Although this is a civil, rather than personal achievement, we wanted to highlight Eastern New England for all the hard work he has been doing lately as the WA Secretariat in issuing numerous WA Proposal Voting Recommendations and Overviews. With every new proposal to hit vote in the GA or SC, ENE searches through forum debate to provide Islanders with a quick, easy to understand overview of the proposal from a variety of perspectives. For political proposals, ENE goes one step further, and coordinates with delegate HumanSanity to issue a voting recommendation explaining why a vote for or against is in XKI’s regional interest. ENE’s work has provided valuable insight into the WA for many Islanders, and truly deserves a moment of special recognition for his efforts!
~Free Las Pinas also put in the work in regard to the WA this month, authoring their first-ever GA Resolution “Supporting People with Disabilities”. After months of drafting and redrafting his proposal about protecting and assisting those with physical and mental impairments, FLP submitted his proposal towards the middle of February. Following an extensive telegram campaign, the proposal reached vote and passed with a laudable 82.8% support. Congrats FLP, and best of luck in your future authorship endeavors.
~Not to be outdone, Noahs Second Country also got to work in the WA, drafting “Repeal: Commend Northern Borland”, pointing out the questionable claims of the original resolution. Although this was a controversial repeal, Noah’s hard work ensured that it would pass, with 58.9% support. Fantastic job!
~Rounding out XKI’s excellent work in the WA this month was HumanSanity. Following a raid on the passworded region The Embassy, HS quickly pushed “Liberate The Embassy” to vote in the Security Council. With broad support from many small delegates and individual nations, the resolution passed with 69.5% support. Congratulations and thank you HS!

    XKI Game-Side

A regional poll by Jabberwocky asked Islanders which of a variety of movie villains would make the best parent. Most Islanders weren’t particularly impressed by any of the villains parenting skills and chastised poor Jabber for being insensitive. Those willing to disregard the problems of villain parents, however, decided that Emperor Palpatine would make the best dad.

The RMB was filled with playful banter this month:

    ~Another month bites the dust!
    ~And...and?!?!
    ~Kyle and his hole?
    ~Z-Day has come early.
    ~Doctor Who?
    ~No no, it’s cursed.
~Likely story. I want name, rank, and, Bank Balance.
    ~Unlimited voting Power!
    ~Old Folks and their lawns.
    ~An excellent translation!

    Poet Laureate Competition

With February, came the LinkPoet Laureate Contest. Islanders submitted poems, this time centered on the themes of courage and bravery, which were then voted upon by the region. Aersoldorf’s humorous poem, was chosen as the contest’s winner.

‘Twas long ago, both cold and dark,
    The sun had slipped away,
Patrons thru my door had come,
    To hide until the day.

Good food, strong drink and tales provide,
    Distraction from their fear,
Yet laughing eyes can scarce disguise,
    The knowledge that Death’s near.

The TITO boys were making noise,
    A’boasting of past deeds,
As stronger ales make stronger tales,
They’d all been in their meads.

Kanta cleared his throat and said,
    That he was bravest, true,
“While you were kicking raiders butts,
    I kicked their mamas too”

Kort’s Korner did erupt in sound,
    Knights spewed their drinks, guffawed,
Up through the floor came Shelter’s ghost,
    The patrons silent, awed.

“I hear ye making crazy claims,
I’ve come to set you straight,
    Titanica, the bravest knight,
Would use you for cut bait,

Yet even he, the noblest knight,
Was filled with doubt and dread,
When from the sand a monster plucked,
    Its fearsome, fishy, head.

    Halibostrichus vampiricus,
    Part vampire, fish and bird,
Grub gumbo turned and ran so fast,
    A sonic boom was heard,

For 80 days and nights they ran,
    No respite, no time out,
When out of breath, the knight did stop,
    And turn himself about,

I beg of thee my mortal foe,
A toast to death let’s chug,
But Hakke smiled and said no thanks,
I chased you for a hug.”
