On January 22, 1924, N. P. Gorbunov, Lenin's secretary, took the Order of the Red Banner (No. 4274) from his jacket and pinned it to the jacket of the already deceased Lenin. This award remained on Lenin's body until 1943, and Gorbunov himself received a duplicate of the order in 1930. According to some sources, N. I. Podvoisky did the same, standing in the honor guard at Lenin's coffin. Another Order of the Red Banner was laid at Lenin's coffin along with a wreath from the Military Academy of the Red Army. Currently, the orders of N. P. Gorbunov and the Military Academy of the Red Army are kept in the Lenin Museum in Moscow
The fact that the order was on the chest of the deceased Lenin during the funeral ceremony in the Column Hall of the House of Unions was captured in the poem by V. Inber "Five Nights and Days (On the Death of Lenin)"
