Hello Iris,

It is with a heavy heart that the Avaldonian Government has been pondering the *Irisian Question* for nearly a month - that matter being if Iris could survive and whether or not it shall benefit Avaldonia to remain involved. As of some moments ago, His Imperial Majesty's Secretary of State for Foreign and Colonial Affairs came to the conclusion that the answer to the Irisian Question is no. Therefore, effective immediately, after 358 days, the Irisian Embassy with Avaldonia is being terminated.

It has been 40 days (September 18th, 2024), since the Recruitment Challenge of raising our regions' population to 100 nations was issued by Venta Silurum; otherwise known as George, Second Head of the Crown.

At the time the challenge was initiated:

Iris' population had dropped from a 1-month+ plateau at 145 nations, lasting from April 24th, 2024 to June 1st, 2024, to only 49 nations, 1 short of Venta Silurum's 50 nations stated. This was a decrease of 96 nations, or a 64.39% drop.

Iris had 13 separate growth periods in that June 1st, 2024 to September 18th, 2024 timespan, the smallest being in increments of 1 nation, and the largest one, a gain of 10 nations from July 19th, 2024 to July 22nd, 2024, which increased Iris' population from 75 nations to 85 nations.

Iris' last period of growth was on August 29th, 2024, a whopping 2 nation increase to raise Iris' population from 67 nations to 69 nations.

Over this period, Iris lost 0.88 nations per day.

Since that challenge was initiated:

Iris' population has dropped from 49 nations to 29 nations. This is a decrease of 20 nations, or a 40.82% drop.

Iris had 3 separate growth periods, all 3 of them in increments 1 nation.

Iris' last period of growth was on October 23rd, 2024. This was a staggering 1 nation gain that increased Iris' population from 30 nations to 31 nations.

Over this period, Iris lost 0.41 nations per day.

Overall, Iris' population has dropped by 116 since the plateau, a clean 80% drop. Some factors that may have influenced nation count are puppets or inactive nations, which may be holding up nation count, before eventually CTEing or leaving with their puppet masters.

Without burying the lead, I do believe that Iris' present fate is in the bag. The recruitment challenge deadline is around the corner, and the effort has not gained a single inch of ground.

As such, I have made the decision to depart Iris for the time being, as this community, or lack thereof, cannot provide much engagement anymore.

This decision is likely to be temporary however, as Iris has shown resilience in previous depressions, rebounding from 10 to 120 nations in September to October 2023, and from 65 to 150 nations in January to March 2024.

For now, however, I believe it is best to let this short chapter of my experience on NationStates lay to rest.
