EGYPT TO LEAD RECONSTRUCTION EFFORTS IN MOSUL

Mosul - Egypt has pledged to lead the reconstruction efforts in war torn Mosul, to rebuild it following the Iraqi civil war, which saw Mosul become an ISIL stronghold, and took a brutal and long war to fully drive out of the city. Earlier this summer, the Iraqi government began a comprehensive and serious effort to rebuild the nation. Egypt in accords with it's role as the leader of the Arab world has pledged to fully reconstruct the city in accordance with this reconstruction effort, after Iraq awarded a US$ 3bn contract to the Egyptian state owned Arab Contractors, which has built a swath of Egyptian infrastructure such as the Aswan Dam, and has been the Egyptian State's tool in helping it's allies in infrastructure projects such as these

The reconstruction efforts will begin with the rebuilding of Mosul's basic infrastructure, such as roads, and sewage. Roads will be rebuilt to the highest international standards, with high quality asphalt. Afterwards, work will move towards rebuilding Mosul's health infrastructure. During the war, nine out of thirteen hospitals were destroyed or damaged slashing the capacity of Mosul by 70%, there are still less than 1,000 hospital beds for a population of 1.8 million people. Egypt will build nine new hospitals for Mosul, each equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art medical equipment and medicine. Emergency room services and surgical, oncology and burns facilities will also be added to the hospitals to deal with the unique medical challenges that Mosul faces as the result of the civil war. Mental health services for people coping with the trauma of violence and losing loved ones, and follow-up surgery, pain management and physiotherapy for war-wounded patients will also be features of the rebuilt healthcare system in Mosul

In terms of infrastructure, Egypt will seek to build and rehabilitate over 130,000 housing units in Mosul, or roughly the same amount of buildings that were damaged and destroyed as result of battle. Priority for the newly built and rehabilitated housing is given to the most vulnerable in Mosul. Such as female-headed households, households run by a minor, people living with a disability, and households where the breadwinner has not had employment in the last three years. Essential elements that will be featured in the rehabilitated buildings will be the rebuilding and plastering walls, securing windows and doors, undertaking electrical work and restoring sanitation, plus additional items for people living with a disability, such as ramps and seated toilets. While newly built housing units will be built by international safety standards, and will be built in a way that they're both efficient and pleasing to the community. All in all, Egypt seeks to allow a big portion of the 1 million displaced Mosul citizens to safely return home following the rebuild

Of course, rebuilding Mosul will not go along without rebuilding it's most important area, the Old City. The Old City not only served as the embodiment of Mosul's multicultural background and ancient history, but was also important economically as it housed the historic markets which many in Mosul worked in. All of the 35,000 various buildings such as government, business, and housing units will be fully rebuilt to return the Old City back to it's former state, reconstructing the souqs, the homes and the awjat will also be on the agenda. Furthermore, Al-Tahera Syriac Catholic Church, and the Conventual Church of Our Lady of the Hour will be rebuilt with the help of Mosul's remaining Chrisitan communities, while Al-Nouri Mosque will be rehabilitated.

Beyond the massive infrastructure projects that will be implemented to rebuild the city, millions of tons of rubble that remains as a result of the brutal liberation war will be cleared, any remaining IEDs and mines will be cleared, 40% of old Mosul which is currently disconnected from the water network will be connected, and various schools and universities will be built. The reconstructions efforts will be led by state-owned Arab Contractors, as well as other entities in the fields of medicine

In a statement, Prime Minister Khaled Ali spoke about the importance of the rebuilding saying: "As one of the leaders of the Arab world, it is our duty to aid and assist our Arab brothers in Iraq during their hardest times. The Iraqi people bravely liberated themselves from reactionaries and those who spread terror in the name of Islam, at a steep cost. As Iraq looked towards a full rebuilt following the beginning of reconstruction efforts earlier this summer, it was our duty to help them undertake this massive projects, by helping them in one of it's more vital areas in Mosul."

FINALLY, EGYPTIAN FOOTBALL ALLOWED TO FULLY RETURN STARTING NEXT WEEK

Cairo - Officially, after seven long years, the Egyptian Football Association has announced that it will allow a full return of Egyptian football fans starting from next week, with no restrictions on slogans, fan attendance, or tifos.

Following the Port Said Massacre of 2012, in which 72 Ahly Martyrs lost their lives during a match between bitter rivals Ahly and al-Masry, fans were banned from Egyptian stadiums after the Egyptian government cited "security measures". This meant that for the past 7 years, the Egyptian football leagues were played behind closed doors without any fans

However starting from next week, Egyptian fans will be allowed to return unconditionally after an official decision by the Egyptian football association

4,500 YEAR OLD EGYPTIAN SUN TEMPLE DISCOVERED

Cairo - Archaeologists at the Abu Ghurab site in northern Egypt have discovered the remains of a sun temple dated to the mid-25th century B.C.E. Discoveries made among the ruins of the older temple include seals engraved with the names of kings, dozens of intact beer jugs, and portions of a limestone threshold and entrance portico.

According to ancient scriptures, it is reported that Egypt's Pharaoh of the fifth dynasty built six sun temples across Egypt. However until now, only two had been found, with this new discovery in Abu Ghurab being the third. Sun temples were important since they essentially assured the Pharaoh's position as a God in the eyes of Egyptians. Sun temples were also unique in that they were exclusively built for fifth dynasty Pharaoh's, with no other dynasty sharing these sun temples.

ROBERT REICH TO LEAVE SDP PRESIDENCY
    - The former Secretary of the Treasury, former Opposition Leader and now, outgoing President of the Social Democratic Party will retire from public life. -

For a great many Americans, Robert Reich may be a great unknown. For those clued into the world of economics, who have monitored with prying eyes and anxious glance, the direction of the Social Democratic Party and it's past few Chairpersons, Robert Reich is synonymous with the party. The lawyer, scholar and academic came to party positioning after being elected as a Member for Congress in a highly public 1983 special election. That is at least, the known tale. Realistically, Reich has a far deeper reach into the SDP's upper echelons. After completing his clerkships in the mid-70s, he was hired in 1976 by the AFL-CIO as a member of it's legal team, and he was a senior adviser to party leaders at the time with a vast knowledge of both law and economics. He would return to his native Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1983 to run in what would be the highly public Scranton special election of 1983.

At this election, the future party Chairperson and now outgoing party President, retained the seat narrowly, defying the odds despite having re-established residence in the area only four days before nominations closed for the race. That would be his closest race in a seat that now re-elects it's SDP incumbent by a margin of almost twenty points. Re-elected at every general election until his retirement in 2015, he would rise to positions of importance as the SDP began circling for the 1990 general election. When Patricia Schroeder became Chancellor of the United States in 1990, she appointed Reich as Secretary for Labor and Industrial Management. The position went to a non-former-union boss for the first (and thus far only) time in SDP history. When in 1993, Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen of the SSD retired, a reshuffled moved Reich into the role. He oversaw the recovery from the early-90s recession, and the ensuing dot-com boom. As Schroeder neared retirement in 1997, Reich was floated as the rank-and-file's pick for Chancellor. Opinion polling of SDP members showed Reich with over 60% of polled membership's support. He held one of the highest approvals among the party faithful, and the wider public, and his unashamed rebuke of Wall Street and Big Business were as respected as they were feared. Yet, it was not to be. In the ensuing 1997 Leadership Contest, Reich was defeated in the internal poll of his fellow caucus-members, by the more moderate Evan Bayh. Offered the role of Treasury in a Bayh Government, Reich accepted defeat as a rebuke of his record in the role and refused entry to cabinet, instead returning to the backbench.

History will debate why Reich was defeated that night, ideology? A specific policy? None of it matters, Bayh was elected, and by the whip's account by a single-digit margin. Rumors to this day swirl that Reich lost because of his vocal approach to the issues of the day, or because he refused to meet with contenders to seal deals of support, others contend that Reich who won the first few ballots lost by his own hubris and refusal to court supporters. Be it what it may, the ordeal made little sense to SDP faithful, many of whom suspected of a stitch-up. They would have their chance to express their disdain when multiple factors driven by the dot-com bubble burst, and Bayh's infidelity, built into the 2000 bloodbath. Pundits were quick to point to Reich as someone who could have prevented the ordeal, but for the caucus, it made no difference. They had lost.

Decimated, and weak, the SDP looked within for a new leader. Reich contested once more, and won, this time having run a more active effort to court support from his Congressional colleagues. He led the party to it's 2005 defeat, where he stepped down, saying "fresh blood is needed as Chairperson or the party will suffer an eternity in opposition". This was despite regaining much lost ground, and replenishing the depleted SDP benches. Shortly after his retirement, the former Opposition Leader would return to his ancient role as party elder. He accepted a position as counsellor, but refused a frontbench spot. He announced his 2010 retirement, blaming old age. For his supporters, the Pennsylvania Liberal, was an old man who had reached the end of his career. Not disgraced, but not elated. Despite enthusiastically campaigning for Barack Obama, and overseeing the SDP's return to it's first majority government over thirty years, he was not enticed by offers of patronage. Asked in 2010 if his retirement from Congress amounted to a departure from all public life, he refused to say yes, the now much more obscure Robert Reich was associated with good economics, and loud voices. Little known, was his amassed influence in Pennsylvania, making him the de-facto kingmaker of one of the nation's most SDP-friendly states. From coal miners, and unionists in the west, to factory workers and cosmopolitan liberals in the east, to farmers and church-goers in the middle; fealty to Reich became a rallying call for any SDP candidate.

Enter, now Chancellor John Fetterman. In 2010, as Reich retired, little known Mayor of Braddock, John Fetterman was being drafted by some in the party to run for the opening seat of Stern. Centered on east/north-east Pittsburgh, Fetterman would be facing four others for SDP support, in this opened safe seat. The cause? The death of John Murtha, a vociferous factional rival to Reich and one of the architects of Reich's defeat in 1997, triggered an open war. The left of the party, led by Reich, would feud with the party's right, which at the time leant on Bob Casey Jr. for support. Fetterman prevailed, and pundits labeled it the win of hearts, over the win of minds. He was quickly dismissed as a future irrelevant backbencher, and Reich's role in the party nomination process was ignored. However, it foreshadowed a deeper yearning, one for the type of politics Reich argued the party's right was too weak to engage in. That of loud, unabashed social democracy. That, which Reich argued would run the Greens out and convince the middle to back the party, the ingredients needed for the SDP/SSD to ever hit 50% again. After 2010, a rejuvenated, younger, more diverse, and more left-wing, SDP would rewrite it's internal rules at the urging of Former Congressmembers, Robert Reich. The rules, rewritten ahead of the 2011 SDP National Convention, would allow party rank-and-file greater say on the composition on the convoluted national executive of the SDP. The changes gave a 50-50 weighting to rank-and-file and the congressional caucus, for all future elections of Party Chairperson. The changes also made delegates on convention floor worth an equal parity to the votes of the rank-and-file for all national executive positions, including SDP Party President, SDP Party Secretary and SDP Party Treasurer (and others).

In October 2010, 'Run Reich', a group of SDP activists on the party's left began organizing and drafting support, for a prospective Reich run for SDP President. Howard Dean was retiring, the position was wide open. For the first time in twenty years, the right of the party was running a compelling candidate in former Nebraska Premier, Bob Kerrey. The two ran on ideology, on methodology, on just about everything to do with the Social Democratic Party. They were not alone, but the clear factional alignment made it seem so. The delegates chose Kerrey, narrowly. The rank-and-file chose Reich, overwhelmingly. The final tally gave Reich "56.4% on the aggregate score" to the all remaining support going to Kerrey. For the decade that follows, the man who once despised party politics, who sledged and railed against factionalism, became the warlord for the left. He oversaw the induction of Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia and Virginia as SDP (not SSD) states, diminishing the influence of the party's conservative cousin. He recruited left-faction candidates, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley where possible. He chose moderates or soft-right candidates where necessary, like Lucy McBath. Now, he retires having put his old protégé in charge of the party he once led. He leaves, having shifted the ideology of the SDP far enough left to keep the Greens at bay, while close enough to the center to prevent a run on support.

Next week, after Thanksgiving, the SDP descends on Louisville, Kentucky. With a vacancy at the top, names have swirled for weeks now, and we'll know soon enough. Until then, the question continues to be asked, as Robert Reich retires, who comes next?

Russia unveils master plan for creation of its industrial zone in Egypt (United arab republic-) — ministry

The full implementation of the project is expected to take 13 years

CAIRO, November 16. /TASS/. The master plan for the creation of Russia’s industrial zone in Egypt has been presented in that country, the press service of the Industry and Trade Ministry told TASS on Tuesday. The presentation was conducted by a joint delegation of the ministry, the VEB.RF state corporation and representatives of Russian companies, that visited Egypt from November 14 to 16.

The master plan of the Russian industrial zone was developed by the Association of Industrial Parks of Russia.

The management of the main directorate of the Suez Canal economic zone highly appreciated the master plan of the project and will soon start its official approval, said Roman Chekushov, head of the department for international cooperation and licensing in foreign trade at the Industry and Trade Ministry.

Following negotiations with Yehia Zaki, Chairman of the Main Directorate of the Suez Economic Zone, the main terms of the development contract were signed, including the lease period for the land plot, its size and coordinates, the deadline for the completion of the site preparation by the developer for the location of resident production facilities, as well as the rental rate.

At the same time, during the working trip, potential residents visited the site chosen for the Russian Industrial Zone in the city of Ain Sokhna, located on the banks of the Suez Canal.

"The representatives of Russian business gave positive feedback on the location of the site, its access to transport and logistics infrastructure, namely the proximity of the site to the port of Ain Sokhna - the largest cargo port in Egypt on the Red Sea <...>. Among the potential residents of the zone are representatives of the leading branches of the Russian industry: mechanical engineering, chemical industry, metallurgy, pharmaceuticals," Chekushov said.

In July, during negotiations with the Egyptian side, the Industry and Trade Ministry agreed and initialed the text of the protocol on amending the intergovernmental agreement on the creation and provision of conditions for the operation of the industrial zone, approved the roadmap for joint actions of the parties to launch the zone.

Russian Industrial zone in Egypt

In 2018 Russia and Egypt signed an intergovernmental agreement on creation of a special zone in the east of Port Said with a simplified tax regime for Russian resident enterprises. The full implementation of the project is expected to take 13 years. It is planned that resident companies will be able to start producing products as early as 2022. They will receive rental holidays, preferential tariffs for energy resources, a special preferential tax regime, and a ready-made site.

The start of construction of the industrial zone was scheduled for 2020, but due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus, the dates were shifted. In the first two or three years, about 50 resident companies will appear in the zone. Russian state investments in the development of the primary infrastructure of the zone are expected to amount to $190 mln, the total volume of private investments is estimated at $7 bln.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

Joint statement by the Russian and Turkish-state Foreign Ministry

An unofficial meeting took place a few hours ago between Sergey Lavrov and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, in Volgograd.
Sergey and Mevlüt had the opportunity to discuss various international issues, the tightening of relations between Ankara and Belgrade among all, and also environmental and economic issues.
The meeting took place behind closed doors and there was no opportunity to learn more about the discussions.
The two ministers then held a joint press conference to clarify what appeared to be the preamble to a conflict.
"There has been a lot of confusion about what happened in the Black Sea, all these movements of Turkish and Russian units in the Black Sea waters of the last 48 hours is related to a joint naval exercise between the navies of our nations, called OCTOPUS21 which takes anti-aircraft, anti-submarine and anti-ship combat simulations.
On the Russian side, as well as on the Turkish side, the utmost confidentiality was kept,
All of this was not in the slightest intention of causing tensions and concerns at the international level, given the numerous requests for clarification received from third parties.
Russia's bond with Turkey is excellent, and it does nothing but improve ", concluded the foreign minister of Moscow.

"This meeting was mutually beneficial and good for bilateral relations, common objectives and interests of our countries, for what happened in the Black Sea it was not the intention of my government to create confusion" said Minister Çavuşoğlu.

For Nasser, For Socialism, For Pan Arab Unity: al-Gomhuria!

Vol. 136 Issue 4

6 YEARS OF SABAHI

Cairo - Earlier today the Arab Socialist Union set the date for the Presidential referendum, December 2nd 2021, and officially nominating current President Hamdeen Sabahi to a second term. Sabahi's victory is a foregone conclusion, no sitting Egyptian President has failed to get a second term, however it is important to look back at the last six years of Sabahi's presidency to have a clear vision of what Egypt will look towards for the next six years.

It is perhaps Sabahi's humble background that has made him popular with many. Born to an Egyptian peasant in 1954 in the Kafr el-Sheikh village of Baltim, Sabahi spent most of his childhood around farmers and fishermen (which he would become during his adloscence). He like most Egyptians went through the public education system, and graduated from a public university. Sabahi would first become known to the Egyptian public as a firm opposition figure to Sadat's counter revolutionary policies, and would be an important figure in student movements during the 1977 Bread Revolution protests which brought down Sadat. Currently, President Sabahi has made his financial assets completely public through his presidency. As of writing, President Sabahi owns 75,000 Egyptian pounds worth of stock, and has 7,000 Egyptian pounds in his bank account. Sabahi does not get any income from his position as President, as he choose to instead "forego any income until Egypt is no longer in debt". He owns two cars: a 2011 model Hyundai and a 2000 model Škoda. His children and his wife's financial assets however are private. He does not live in one of the Presidential palaces, and instead lives in a house he owns in the outskirts of Cairo. This house was a project made by the Syndicate of Journalists, and he bought it through financing

Sabahi's humble background did not stop with his private life however, President Sabahi often makes public appearances with average Egyptians, such as ones where he was seen fishing with local fishermen, and helping homeless men on the streets of Cairo. It is his humble lifestyle and his frequent public appearances with average Egyptians has earned him many comparisons to Eternal President Abdel Nasser, which has only aided his popularity.

However, his charisma and humble persona would only carry him so far if President Sabahi couldn't back it up with actual policy. Since assuming Presidency, unemployment in Egypt has dropped to 5.2% from 13%, extreme poverty dropped from 32.5% to 29.7%, Egypt is on track to be declared slum free by the start of 2022, the state has achieved self sufficiency in many areas cutting down on import costs and aiding to increase exports to other countries, foreign exchange reserves rose from US$ 15 billion at the end of 2015 (when Sabahi was made President) to more than US$ 45.5 billion by early 2020, the budget deficit being cut from 12.5 per cent of GDP in 2016 to 6.9 per cent in 2021. Unlike many that predicted all of this was gonna require austerity measures, President Sabahi instead increased and strengthened subsidies, introducing a 2,400 EGP minimum wage, and implementing a number of taxes on the upper class.

Recently, President Sabahi introduced the Haya Karima project, promising to upgrade 4,500 Egyptian villages to bring them to modern standards and ensure the highest quality of life for Egypt's rural residents. Of course, this is all without mentioning the megaprojects, the New Capital, as well as the Sinai development plan.

Nonetheless, all has not been well for the self styled 'succussor of Nasser', Egypt's debt has grown to record levels as Sabahi was forced to look towards financing Egypt's expensive subsidies system with various loans due to the lack of sufficient economic growth, the public sector has only grew to be more bloated and inefficient as the state has failed to drive enough foreign investment in the nation (although foreign investment in the last six years has far exceeded what Egypt has gotten in the past), President Sabahi's bold promises of eliminating poverty has so far been implemented incredibly slowly as the mega infrastructure projects has taken priority. While public education and healthcare has so far improved, it has still failed to be sufficient enough for Egypt's 106mn population.

So what is next? So far President Sabahi has announced several main goals that he wishes to implement within the first year of his second terms. Namely: The expansion of women's rights, unemployment benefits, and a 1mn public housing project. He also promised to see the completion of the New Capital and other ongoing infrastructure projects, and a tax reform to adapt the current system to newer circumstances. In terms of foreign policy, Sabahi asserted his commitment to positive neutrality, the expanding of inter-arab ties, and the support to any Pan-Arabist group or individual unconditionally. He also asserted that Egypt will work to expand the 'three circles', that of the Arab, Islamic, and African circles which Egypt is a part of.

In conclusion, Sabahi's six year reign has so far been positive for Egypt, returning back to it's Nasserite principles and strenghening it's position on world affairs. Yet, question marks remain over Egypt's catastrophic debt, as well as it's inefficient and large public sector. Furthermore, Sabahi has not given any concrete evidence that any of his proposed plans for the future can succeed. A 1mn housing unit project was announced in late 2015, but it fell through due to financial reasons. Unemployment benefits is also one of the earliest policies that Sabahi has advocated for, but it remains in limbo and is yet to be implemented. While he has promised to commit to positive neutrality, it is clear that Egypt regards Moscow as a close partner, and Sabahi has made no secret his distaste for western interests in the region. Yet, come December 2nd, all these doubts will be put behind, and Egypt will continue moving forward towards it's future.

Tai-Bolivian Treaty on Defense and Trade

Bangkok and La Paz have recently concluded, via videoconferencing, a pact to further reinforce defense and economic ties between the two PA member-states, which will see closer relations between the South-East Asian and Andean states. Though the specific terms of the agreement remain withheld for the time being, inside sources confirm agreements regarding Bolivia's vast mineral supply, as well as Tai military aid of some sort.

-bolivia and the TSPR established formal relations in 1993, over a decade after the evacuation of the Royalist government and the collapse of the counter-revolutionary army. Bolivia also hosts the largest Tai diaspora in South America, several thousand strong, most having emigrated there during the reign of the revisionist government. Therefore, the diaspora in Bolivia comprise mainly of staunch leftists and their families exiled by the bandit politburo for their reversal of progressive social policies and worker's rights, and the dilution of the TSPR's democratic centralism, though a large number have also returned following the 2010 coup and the restoration of Socialist control. Strangely enough, perhaps riding on the Latin American pink wave, Tai Bolivians have also been actively involved in Bolivian politics, joining and contributing to left-leaning and aggressively progressive political parties across Bolivia.

This has not come without criticism, however, with opposing Bolivian news outlets occasionally pinning violent actions against right-wing politicians, low poll numbers, and protests on the Tai Bolivians, supposedly actively sanctioned by the TSPR and that their participation in politics represents a 'malicious foreign interference' in Bolivia. The fact that the Bolivian diaspora is perhaps the sole example of a sizeable pro-TSPR Tai diaspora outside of Asia, aside from that of neighbouring Brazil, further exacerbated accusations leveled against them. Perhaps as a way of mitigating potential discrimination against the diaspora, the TSPR through its embassy in La Paz has discouraged the foundation of exclusive resident's unions like those maintained by the Koreans in Japan, though it still maintains a foreign branch of the Tai Communist Party in Bolivia.

Fatah Alliance Joins Ruling Coalition

BAGHDAD – In a move surprising to little across Iraq, head of the Fatah Alliance Hadi Al-Amiri announced that the Fatah Alliance would be joining the ruling coalition. Since the 31 of October, he has served as the Minister of Defense of Iraq, replacing the widely popular Najah Al-Shammari.

This comes as a surprise for little. The Fatah Alliance and its affiliated paramilitary the Badr Organization have been politically aligned with the Sadrists. Much like the Sadrists, the Fatah Alliance supports furthering diplomatic ties with Iran and building Iraq as a bastion against western powers. Like Saairun, they favor stamping down on corruption and uniting the country under one, Iraqi identity.

Still, this development has granted the ruling Saairun-led coalition more ground in the Council of Representatives. The ruling coalition now controls 326 of 422 council seats. The coalition's supermajority may soon wane, however, as some warn. With the assassination of Adil Al-Farsi, Saairun has shifted from being a mainly secular party to favoring Shia Iraqis. This may upset some of the members of the ruling coalition. Many of them are liberal and secularists, and are likely to split.

Even if the liberals and secularists split, it is likely the ruling coalition will still retain a considerable majority of seats in the Council. Al-Farsi's assassination ushered in a new period for Iraq dominated by figures such as President Muqtada al-Sadr and Prime Minister Ayatollah Taqi al-Modaressi. Iraqi secularism of Al-Farsi's type may not have died in Iraq as some warn, but it is waning. Whether temporarily or for good remains to be seen.

Kurdish Jews: Not Just An Urban Legend

Jewish converts light a menorah for Chanukah at the Tomb of Nahum in Al-Qosh [AFP]

ERBIL – On the streets of this city, if one looks hard enough, they can see one of the rarest sights in the Arab world. A sight that, half a century ago, was commonplace in the city.

A small group of Kurds go about their lives in the city wearing kippahs. Iraq was once home to the largest Jewish population in the Middle East. Following the foundation of Israel, however, their numbers quickly dwindled. Most left the country, many others converted to Islam. Whatever they did, these days official government statistics report only 10 Jews, all of whom reside in Baghdad.

Daesh's brutal campaign across Iraq caused many Kurds to rethink their faith. Many of them embraced their Iranic roots and converted to Zoroastrianism. Some others turned to Judaism. Most self-proclaimed Jewish converts in Kurdistan claim to have Jewish ancestry.

To quantify the amount of converts, however, would be a daunting task. It would require to define what it means to be Jewish.

The movement gained so much steam that in 2015, the now-defunct KRG briefly named Sherzad Mamsani as the representative of the Jewish community before dismissing him following complaints by Israeli Jews who claimed there were no Jews left in Kurdistan.

Egypt To Help Mosul Rebuild

MOSUL – Egypt has come to a deal with Iraq regarding the reconstruction of the war-torn city of Mosul. The Egyptian government will assist Iraq in rebuilding the city which was terribly destroyed during the civil war. Seeing themselves as a leader of the Arab world, Egypt has pledged that the city will be fully reconstructed in accordance with the deal. In return, Egyptian state-run contractors will receive $3 billion United States dollars for their help.

The company being contracted, Arab Contractors, has previous experience building the Aswan Dam alongside numerous other infrastructure projects in Egypt, and they are likely to prove themselves useful in their newest task.

According to the Egyptian newspaper al-Gomhuria, the reconstruction efforts will first focus on rebuilding basic infrastructure, which includes roads, sewage, and then move onto the heavily battered health infrastructure. Egypt will also assist in rebuilding and rehabilitating the heavily damaged and destroyed housing units.

Arab Contractors will also help in the reconstruction of the historic ancient Old City of Mosul. The last part of the city to be liberated, the Old City unfortunately remains the most devastated part of the city. The joint Iraqi-Egyptian reconstruction effort aims to restore the Old City to its former glory. The historic churches and mosques of the city along with the markets, homes, and businesses will be rebuilt.

Alongside this monumental effort to rehabilitate one of Iraq's most iconic cities, the rubble and IEDs that render the city extremely dangerous to navigate will be cleared. Water networks will be rebuilt. Schools, universities, and other educational institutions will be built better than how they were before.

This deal was celebrated across Iraq as a hopeful vision of the future in a nearly broken country. President Muqtada al-Sadr stated, "May the reconstruction of Mosul serve as an allegory of Iraq's journey. Not only will we rebuild Mosul, we will build it in a better state than it was before."

Vaygach icebreaker leads caravan towards ships drifting near New Siberian Islands

Presently, Atomflot’s three nuclear-powered icebreakers are working in the Northern Sea Route - the Yamal, the Taimyr and the Vaygach

TASS, November 22. The Vaygach nuclear-powered icebreaker, leading a caravan of ships, left the Pevek port (Chukotka) to join the vessels, drifting near the New Siberian Islands, the nuclear fleet’s authority, Atomflot, said on Monday.

Presently, Atomflot’s three nuclear-powered icebreakers are working in the Northern Sea Route - the Yamal, the Taimyr and the Vaygach. However, due to the conditions in the NSR’s eastern part, the efforts of those three icebreakers are not sufficient - quite many vessels there have been waiting to be led through the ice.

"The Vaygach with a caravan of three ships (the Konstanta, the Turukhan, the Grigory Shelikhov) departed from the Pevek port heading for the New Siberian Island towards the ships, which have been drifting there," the authority’s press service said.

On November 20, the Vaygach nuclear-powered icebreaker led to the destination five ships - Uhl Fusion, Golden Pearl, Golden Suek, Nordic Qinngua, Nordic Nuluujaak. Near Dezhnev Cape (NSR’s easternmost point) the vessels continued sailing without any icebreaker.

According to Atomflot’s Director Leonid Irlitsa, in the current ice situation icebreakers are unable to lead caravans from west to the east. Only tugged escort is possible there. "Thus, the navigating companies must pay special attention to what vessels they are using during the final months of the summer-autumn navigation," he said.

Atomflot’s press service stressed in a release on Friday that due to the favorable ice situations of recent years some ship owners have misinterpreted approaches to the eastbound work on the Northern Sea Route. At the same time, the state regulations read that the navigation near the Pevek marine port continues from July to October, and this period may be extended in favorable ice conditions.

"For the first time in recent seven years, the ice formation in certain areas of the Northern Sea Route began two weeks earlier," Atomflot’s Director General Mustafa Kashka said. "Realistically, from early November, at certain locations it is impossible to sail without icebreakers."

"The company continues to observe its contracted obligations to provide safe sailing along the Northern Sea Route," he added.

EGYPT AND THE GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC CONCLUDE A NUMBER OF AGREEMENTS

Cairo- In a joint statement released by both nations, both Egypt/the United Arab Republic and the Deutsche demokraticshe republik have revealed that they have reached a number of economic agreements that will benefit both nations and reenforce their historic friendship.

The major highlight of the agreements was the Liquefied Natural Gas agreement. Egypt has been looking to kickstart it's LNG exports to Europe as it wishes to diversify it's economy as well as create another source of revenue. Since the discovery of the Zohr gas field in 2015, Egypt has been self sufficient in gas and has been producing a surplus of 1.6 bcf per day in 2021. This translates into an annual surplus of 16 bcm or 584 bcf, enough to produce 12.2 million tons of LNG with Egypt's current production capacity. The state already exports LNG to a number of nations, however it has not reached it's full export potential. The new agreement will see Egypt/UAR export 2.7 million tons of LNG to the German Democratic Republic at a fixed rate of €18.37/mmBtu. This would allow for the GDR to satisfy it's energy needs, and for Egypt to start getting it's hands in the European markets.

The second highlight of these agreements was a contract reached by the HQM Sachsenring GmbH company to open a new factory inside of Egypt, which would see it tap into the attractive Egyptian market while taking advantage of Egypt's low car ownership rate as well as it's strategic location in Africa and the Middle East. There is only an average of 35 Egyptians owning a car out of every 1000, and with demand increasing, automotive manufacturers find opportunity. Especially, It is an under-penetrated automobile market with large numbers of young population. The Egyptian government will invest a total of €450,700,000 in the project, and land ownership will go to HQM Sachsenring GmbH completely. As a gesture of goodwill, the first vehicle to roll out of the assembly line will be the 'Trabant Pharaoh', a one-of-a-kind gasoline-powered sedan with a retro aesthetic, which will be given as a gift to President Sabahi.

Finally, both nations have reached a number of trade agreements including: A free trade agreement which will see both nations remove tariffs on each other's productions, encouraging increased trade between the two nations. A trade deal which will see Egypt supply the German Democratic Republic with a steady supply of it's world famous cotton.

During the announcement, Minister of Foreign Affairs Amr Moussa remarked "This is a great deal for both parties, and it only serves to strenghen our historically strong relationships.". Officials from the GDR were quoted saying in the joint statement "The United Arab Republic is one of the German Democratic Republic's oldest friends, and has always been a reliable ally of ours in the Middle East. We are happy to continue strengthening our bonds as friends, and look forward to working closely together in the future".

EGYPT TO BUILD THE BIGGEST PUBLIC MEDICAL CITY IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Cairo - The Egyptian Ministry of Health has announced that Egypt will embark on a megaproject to build the largest medical tourism center in Africa and the Middle East at a cost of US$ 1.2bn. While said to be a medical tourism city, it will also cater to domestic needs. The medical city will include 13 different specialized medical institutes with a capacity of 2,000 beds, a landing strip for flying ambulances, an educational hospital, and natural healing gardens, as well as a plant nursery.

Built on an area of 441,107 sqkm east of Cairo, the city will offer the most innovative treatments in medical science in addition to the latest techniques as well as the most advanced medical technology, as well as be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. It will also include services for staff and medical training.

The project will create from 10,000 to 13,000 job opportunities in various fields including construction and medical services, a source has also indicated that 40% of all beds will be allocated to low income and working class Egyptians. The project will be owned by the Egyptian state, with all revenues going towards the state which will then be reinvested in healthcare infrastructure

EGYPTIAN ARMY SIGNs MASSIVE ARMS CONTRACT

Cairo - The Egyptian army has started a process of modernization, starting with purchasing a number of Zhonghua minzu gongheguo made military equipment through various arms contracts between the two nations according to a senior military source. The Egyptian Ministry of Defense has announced the deals earlier this morning, in a massive US$ 7bn contract.

The new Egyptian military doctrine is now emphasizing mobility and agility, abandoning the old doctrine of conventional heavy military warfare that the Egyptian armed forces were built on during the 60s and 70s. Thus to this end, the Egyptian army has now acquired 250 ZTQ-15 light tanks, a modern third generation Chinese light tank that will offer a mobile option to the mechanized brigades which don't need the extra firepower of more traditional MBTs, but still require sufficient firepower that doesn't scarfice mobility in the battlefield. This move would mark Egypt's first purchase of a light tank. the ZTQ-15 tanks are able to traverse the harshest environments faster and better than heavier tanks.

As the armed forces looks to phase out it's aging T-55s, it has acquired 500 ZTZ-99A Main Battle Tanks, a third generation modern tank that has been called a lethal threat. The new ZTZ-99A tanks will be an upgrade over all of Egypt's current tanks except the T-90s, however it is likely that Cairo would be looking towards more upgrades in the future.

On the lighter side, the army has also acquired 400 CSK-181 variants of the Dongfeng Mengshi, a 4x4, Mine-Resistant Ambush Protection capable light tactical vehicle. The CSK-181 has a max speed of 120km/h, and can carry up to 8 passengers. It's MRAP capabilities means that it will be essential in Egypt's current fight against Takfirists in the Sinai Peninsula, as it's also made to traverse hard terrain.

The Armed Forces also looked to upgrade it's rocket capabilities, and thus it has invested in getting 200 units of the PHL-16 truck-mounted self-propelled multiple rocket launcher system. the PHL-16 has a range of 130km, far more than the current highest range in the Egyptian arsenal, which has a range of 70km. It is also expected that the PHL-16 will replace the aging BM-21 units

Land forces were not the only ones pleased with the deal however, the Egyptian Air Forces has managed to acquire 25 units of the Chengdu J-20. The J-20 is one of the few stealth fighter aircraft operational today, and it is one of the most advanced fighters that exists today. It is an important new addition to the air force's arsenal, which now looks to establish it's air dominance over other potential enemies.

Overall, the US$ 7bn contract is expected to bring positive additions to the Egyptian army, upgrading it's capabilities and ensuring it's current role as one of the strongest armies in the region

ROMNEY TO BE CHALLENGED - AGAIN
    - Opposition Leader Mitt Romney will face another call for resignation from his backbench as the DRP falls further in polls. -

Last week, a Monmouth poll added to existing strain on the Romney Opposition. It showed, that if an election was held today, the DRP would lose roughly 80 seats, much of that to the Farmers, the Union, and the Free Democrats. Three parties who's angle for individual constituencies of the DRP is obvious to the average casual political observer. Entering 2020, punditry focused on the expectation that the DRP, and the Union would be evenly matched. After all, the Union had gone through four Chancellors in five years; Obama, McAuliffe, and Nelson before finally settling on Fetterman; and for most Americans, the economy was not matching expectations. Wages continued to lag, and the Fettermania was more anti-Fetterman than what it is now, aptly pro-Fetterman. The opportunity to contain the Union to two terms, was missed. Instead, the SDP bore the brunt of losses and the SSD beat expectations and actually gained a constituency seat.

In the ensuing debacle, Romney retained his role by purporting fear of the alternative. Two major contenders, Rand Paul and Nikki Haley sat out the race, both citing family reasons. Punditry would tell you that the real reason for it was that both recognized that contending against Romney, as easy as it may be, would make them Opposition Leader during the Covid-19 Pandemic's peak, where Chancellor John Fetterman's face is on television daily, and where the Union is benefiting from positive management of a pandemic. Recall, that in May of 2020; Fetterman had an approval rating of 78%. Unreal, insane, astonishing! Also, exceptional, and most importantly, unbeatable. Any Opposition Leader at that point, would be consigned to irrelevancy, and mockery, and by the next general election; an inability to breakout from the low-thirties of support.

Things have changed, the pandemic is behind us, the Chancellor's approval rating has softened by over fifteen points to the low-60s to high-50s depending on the poll. The Union support is above 40% for the first time in six years, and without a pandemic to blame Romney's ineffectual attacks on, the sharks circle and this time, may be able to deal a fatal cut. Rand Paul who ran the only credible challenge for the role, lost in 2020, losing 384-234. Now, the person moving the motion of no confidence is Nikki Haley, the South Carolinian who would rewrite the public perception on the DRP on the issues of race and gender. The motion has seen more than one candidacy follow it, with Haley and Rand Paul, being joined by three other contenders (Kevin McCarthy, Fred Upton, and John Thune). If that field felt too big, it gets bigger; there's talk of Chris Sununu, Asa Hutchinson, and Kristi Noem also joining the field, and that's without the consideration that incumbent, Mitt Romney, has yet to indicate if he will step down or run to retain his office.

The motion will be submitted tomorrow, on Monday the 29th November, and entertained on Wednesday, December 1st, giving all caucus members a full two days to decide the course of their party. Romney's defeat is not a foregone conclusion, but it is certainly the most likely outcome.

“Japanese-Central American Trans-Pacific Partnership Stronger Than Ever,” Voiced Foreign Minister Yoshimasa

| TOKYO —Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi visited Guatemala City in Central America on a diplomatic mission with Vice President Félix Ulloa to discuss Japan and Central America’s inviolable relationship. Both countries have shown interest in expanding on economic deals such as promoting community development by Japanese companies such as Honda, Toyota, Sony, and Toshiba. The CEO of Sony Kenichiro Yoshida and CEO of Toshiba Satoshi Tsunkawa have agreed to develop a chip manufacturing plant following Central American- owned company Atec in Cuba to boaster innovative technological advances in Latin America and invest in the “talented and growing region.” Said Yoshida. Honda and Toyota, respectively, are competing for Latin America’s business in providing affordable, energy-efficient electric vehicles. With this in mind, the two companies are developing their hubs that will serve the region better by building cars in the area rather than in Japan, cutting consumer costs dramatically.

Yoshimasa and Madam Vice President Ulloa also discussed financial matters. In times of crisis, the Japanese Yen had weathered the storm of concerning economic trends globally. “We are very fortunate to uphold a currency that is considered one of the safest in the world, and we invite Central America to use the yen while trading with Japan.”, Yoshimasa told the press in Guatemala City. Japan flaunts its safe-haven currency to attract investors to use their currency instead of the U.S. Dollar and Euro. So far, Central America is one of the only countries to use the Japanese Yen to trade with Japan, and Thailand accepts the Yen as a form of payment rather than the dollar while trading with Japan.
