THE KASADIAN REVOLUTION
After several years of bloodshed and misery that our people had to endure during the oppressive regime of the Socialist Party of Kasad, Michael Poper, the leader of the subsequent revolt, declared that this was enough. And so, after much careful planning by Michael and his coconspirators, a revolutionary movement came into existance called "The National Republican Revolt". And so began the struggle of our people, eleven years of cruel and relentless combat that filled the land with smoke, bodies and destruction. At first the struggle begun with small skirmises for the purpose of accruding necessary supplies, along with recruitment and propaganda campaigns. After four years of hoarding, planning and most importantly, waiting, the revolution had begun. And eventually through blood, ruins and bulletfire, we were able to forge a new national goverment by which we could secure peace and prosperity for our people.

In other words, a goverment that would make laws according to the principles of natural law, and establish the basic individual rights of life, property and the persuit of happiness. We decided to establish those principles as absolute and non-negotiable for our people, so as not to fall into the same subversion that allowed the Socialists to take over the nation and unleash their horrendous reign of terror. As such, we decided that there should be laws that did not allow demagogues to use the passions of our people against them. We also sought as appropriate to make an efficient policing system, that with unending dilligence would stamp out any and all opinions and elements that advocate for the totalitarian way of life that brought the misery we sought to end with our revoltion. At the same time we established spiritual defenses against socialist subversion by way of religious propaganda that humbled our people, and was giving them a path of self-improvement through faith and action, instead of stewing in the emotions of greed and jealousy that the socialists stoke and exploit for the achievement of their molevolent goals.

With those basic convictions in mind we sought to establish our glorious republic, as we march forward to a new path, that of God, truth and liberty.

Board of War

The Board of War has mobilized a CBRN battalion in North Chosun, and officially raised the 5-million strong North Chosun Workers and Peasants' Militia, as it aims to combat the aftereffects of the Nyongbyon nuclear disaster.

To provide radiologocal protection by prevention of airborne contamination, and to prevent weathering of the reactor remains, the Board of War has planned to cover the entire reactor with a containment structure, similar to the ones found in Fukushima and Chernobyl. The Board has liaised with the American Sandia National Laboratories ( Imperial Eagle ) to procure massive batches of decontamination materials to cover the reactor.

5,000 troops have also been mobilized to construct a 78.4 kilometre-long fence, which will surround a 422.58 km² swath of land surrounding the reactor. The area, now designated the "Primary Contamination Zone", will be subject to a lengthy cleanup process by the Board of War, estimated to last 8 months. Massive excavators and ploughs were seen tilling the land, trying to cover the radioactive outer layer of the soil with soil from the deep surface, while some soldiers were instructed to kill animals that resided within the PCZ, for fear that they would spread radioactive particles as they moved. Trenches were also dug around the area, meant to be dumping grounds for personal belongings and other components in the area that may have been irradiated.

Members of the Qing public, concerned about the release of radioactive gas from the accident, staged numerous anti-nuclear demonstrations across the country in the subsequent days following the accident. The largest demonstration was held in the Capital, and involved 50,000 people. A series of nightly marches were also held at the Arch of Triumph in Pingyang (Pyongyang). Just last night, an estimated 5,000 people attended a march and rally against nuclear power in Hanyang (Seoul).

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission, along with other private groups here in the Union, will do what they can to aid in damage control and clean-up as the Union has years of experience cleaning up nuclear waste and other toxic waste spills. Several teams from Washington D.C. and Los Alamos Laboratory in New Mexico will arrive in the area within the next 48 hours and take readings of the soil and air before going from there.

FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

The A1 running east to west, north of Plovdiv, has been shut down as a result of an explosion. Suspected artillery or mortar strikes have occurred in the area.

Evidence leads us to believe this is an attempt to strike munition depots and supply lines. Units from the local national guard and the 1st Army have been activated with directives to monitor, defend, and maintain the situation.

Additional updates to follow

The Hellenic Air Force this evening conducted an air strike operation on The North Bulgarian Naval Air base located in Varna, on the Black Sea.

This was in response to a series of artillery strikes that left 8 Hellenic citizens dead and another 20 injured.

Our operation was conducted to limit the capabilities of the base and resulted in the destruction of over a dozen air craft and some patrol air craft.

In the operation we did lose one F-16, with the pilots having been recovered by Hellenic Special Forces as they went down over the Black Sea in North Bulgarian Waters.

Your Excellency,

After the fruitful deliberations held at the Kyoto Festival, which His Majesty’s Government hopes will lead to ever more co-operation between our two states, it is hardly deemed acceptable that up until this point, no Minister Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary has been selected to represent our interests in Japan, and vice versa your own interests in Westminster City.

It is therefore that we propose to exchange formal diplomatic missions in the form of an ordinary Embassy. If you are willing to accept this offer, we would like to nominate and appoint as our Ambassador His Excellency Diederik van Teylingen, Esq., who has experience in various communication departments of His Majesty’s Government, and undoubtedly possesses the qualities of a proper diplomat.

Please do also nominate and appoint some proper person you think fit as Ambassador to and at the Court of Saint James’s (His Majesty’s official senior residence) in the City of Westminster.

JNN Weekly Report

- After an investigation into a malfunctioning amphibious vehicle that claimed the life 6 members of the Grand Army of Japan, the Department of Defense has concluded that a seal had malfunctioned on a side hatch which allowed the vehicle to take on water. The vehicle was an aquatic prototype of the Type 96 Armored Personnel Carrier, a vehicle that is already being tested. The base Type 96 APC has already been delayed before due to armor quality issues, and Secretary Imada has stated that the aquatic prototype of the Type 96 APC will not be tested any further until the base model tests conclude. While this prototype's malfunction was one seal, he also states that there could have been more flaws with the APC, however, their main focus is the seal due to it being the cause of the six deaths.

- Earlier today, gay marriage was finally legalized in the entirety of Japan under the Hokatsu hoan ("Inclusion Bill"). The bill passed in the House with a 593-476 vote, with 94 abstaining. The bill then moved on to the Senate of Japan where it passed with a 68-55 vote, with 12 abstaining. After passing in both houses, it was sent to President Akiya who signed the historic bill into law on national television. The law legalizes marriage for both gay and lesbian couples, adoption by those couples, and the law makes any and all purposefully derogatory or harmful language to the LBGT community illegal and punishable by a fine or jailtime, depending on the severity. This is the first move against hate-speech against a group in Japan since 1974, under President Ishikura, which made it illegal to use hate speech against mixed Japanese people, or "kongo shimin".

Athenian National News

After months of submissions, a new flag design for the nation has been submitted. The current flag, in use since the end of World War 2, has been seen as outdated and largely seen as a poor design. “It doesn’t represent the nation or its history” said Pericles Legeas, who headed the flag design commission.

“The new flag has Athenian, Macedonian and Byzantine elements in it, with the Byzantine elements also representing the Serbian and Balkan elements in the new flag. The Vergina Sun in the middle honoring our proud Macedonian and Hellenic past, and representing the influence that Hellenic ideals still have today. Surrounding it representing the Hellenic culture as a whole. The Firestrikes that are “B”s in each corner, saying King of Kings, Ruling Over Kings (βασιλεὺς βασιλέων, βασιλεύων βασιλευόντων; Basileus Basileōn, Basileuōn Basileuontōn), representing our time spent as the Eastern Roman Empire, or the Byzantines known as today, that our empire never really fell. And the blue background, it is the beauty of the Aegean, Ionian, Adriatic, Black, and Mediterranean seas that we touch. It is a flag that is something we can all call ours.” said Lana Tetra, designer of the flag.

The Hellenic Parliament is expected to vote on the new flag later this afternoon.

The election is 1 year away (52 rl days) and we will be monitoring those who step up to challenge incumbent Archon Alexander Metraw.

Under the Metraw administration The Hellenic League has seen efforts taken to improve the economy and bring greater opportunity to the people. However, he has faced criticism. He is accused of only focusing on Hellas, leaving out Kosovo, Bulgaria, and most notably, Cyprus. Protesters in Albania have also called out Archon Metraw and his Hellenic Conservative Republican Movement. Archon Metraw currently has a 42% approval rating.

Expected challengers include current ICC President Pericles Legeas (of the Hellenic Socialist Union Party) and Nikolaus Dellinger, Governor of Albania and former Minister of War of the Progressive Labour Party. Marianna Florea, chair of the Hellenic Communist Party, is also expected to run.

It’s a tight race this year, with much on the line.

ELECTION UPDATE

In a surprising turn of events, Pericles Legeas has opted to not enter the race for Archon. He has cited family and to focus on his current job as President of the ICC.

With Legeas not running, that opens the door for Nikolaus Dellinger, who has been actively campaigning in Albania this week.

Mariana Florea is campaigning currently on the island of Cyprus. Alexander Metraw is currently in Byzantium visiting the new canal site.

Current poll:
Nikolaus Dellinger: 43%
Alexander Metraw: 41%
Mariana Florea: 17%

PM Sørensen: As I said previously I am indeed glad to hear such a proposal from you regarding the tarriff policy between our nations. Halving the tarriff rates for goods being shipped through the Maersk shipping company to Romanovkaya while our products that are being sold in your country will enjoy the same benefit of halved tarriff rates...that is an excellent proposal and as such it has my full support. After my return to Denmark, I will summon the Cabinet and the Folketing, where I am sure the proposal will pass smoothly, and then we can finally sign the agreement and enjoy its benefits.

Prime Minister Shchegolyayeva thank you for your kind words. I couldn't have said it better myself. I am proud and thankful to have the opportunity to lead the Cabinet of His Majesty's Government and to be here today in the beautiful city of Vyborg. Allow me to thank you for your hospitality, I can tell you that I very much enjoyed my stay here and I am looking forward to visiting your fair country in the future. The meeting between our governments was a fruitful one and I am sure that the people of Denmark and Romanovskaya alike will soon reap the benefits of our deal. Finally, let us remember the brave people of Romanovskaya who for many years proudly stood defiant in the face of the mortal enemy of liberty and democracy that is the communist ideology. In these dark times your people were a beacon of hope and inspiration for the people of Denmark. For that I'd like to thank you.

DR - Danmarks Radio
Danish Broadcasting Corporation

København - Earlier today the Folketing, the unicameral Danish parliament, nearly unanimously supported PM Sørensen's proposal to ratify an agreement between the governments of Denmark and Romanovskaya. The proposed agreement was a result of a historic meeting between Prime Minister Sørensen of Denmark and Prime Minister Shchegolyayeva of Romanovskaya that took place in Vyborg a few weeks earlier.

As a result of today's Folketing vote, the citizens of Denmark and Romanovskaya alike will get to enjoy the many significant benefits that the rafitication of the agreement brings into power. The agreement itself is focused on furthering the economic cooperation of Denmark with Romanovskaya. Both nations agreed to provide appropriate protection of intellectual property rights of each other's businesses and citizens alike. Moreover Denmark promised to liberalise its work visas for citizens of Romanovskaya and as such it shall henceforth be much easier and quicker procedure to obtain a travel visum to Denmark for Romanovan citizens. Last but not least, to support trade between the respective nations, both sides have agreed to halve the tarriff rates for goods being shipped through the Maersk shipping company to Romanovkaya while Danish products that are being sold in Romanovskaya will enjoy the same benefit of halved tarriff rates.

Shortly after the Folketing vote PM Sørensen told us: "First, I'd like to thank all the members of the Folketing who supported and voted in favor of the agreement today. It was indeed great to see both the MP's that support my Cabinet and those who don't to vote for the deal alike...Next, I must not forget to thank PM Shchegolyayeva of Romanovskaya, she was a great host and we wouldn't get anywhere in the negotiations be it not for her bright ideas...To the people of Denmark, allow me to tell you that I can guarantee you that the agreement will bring many benefits to you and our fair country. Moreover, I am convinced that this is only the beginning and a first step in expanding our relations with our friends in Romanovskaya. There are still many ways how to improve and further our cooperation with them and I am eager and thankful to be part of this historic journey towards such excellent and new opportunities for our citizens and bussinesses."

A speech

“Alexander Metraw and the rest of his government are only in power because of an agreement between us, the people, and Athens. Our larger government has no constitution. It has no set principles of law, except from Corpus Juris Civilis and other precedents set thereafter. That was almost 1500 years ago!

Meanwhile we call ourselves a republic, and other republics tend to have those constitutions. My time as Governor here in Albania, we wrote a constitution. We codified and we set up the structure. And what happened?? Metraw and the rest of the conservatives didn’t even vote on it. They completely rejected it. Why? Because they fear that the people will have the power.

You’re the constituents. And we are all citizens of this Hellenic League. We deserve a constitution, a written law, instead of basing it off precedent and how we feel.

We need a true, and proper, republic.

Question of the Week

Does your nation have a national cuisine? What is it?

- - - - - - -

Eulumia has a vast array of cuisines due to it having over 1,000 ethnic groups spread across the archipelago nation, with many dishes unique to their location. This leads to a huge diversity of cooking methods and ingredients used, however there are two main dishes considered to be the unofficial national dishes of Eulumia: Nasi Lemak and Nasi Goreng.

Nasi Lemak originates from the Johor and Penang provinces of Malaya whereas Nasi Goreng's origins are unknown, although it is usually associated with the Lampung and Riau provinces of Sumatra. Neither dish has a set recipe and the variations are as numerous as Eulumia's diversity, however there's a key component in each dish being fragrant rice cooked in coconut and fragrant fried rice respectively.

Additionally the instant noodle "Eulumie" (IRL Indomie) are extremely popular amongst the Eulumian population and sees exponential popularity in Furstia as well. The noodles are cooked in a huge amount of different ways to spice up (sometimes literally) the dish, leading to it being an extremely versatile product.

Seleznyovo International Airport, Vyborgsky District, Romanovskaya

At aproximately 10:00am, a specially chartered flight from Moscow, Novaya rossiyskaya imperiya landed at Seleznyovo International Airport carrying some 30 students. This was part of the student exchange program agreed by the Romanovan-Soviet governments in Roshchino recently. This marked the first ever joint program by the two nations, with a number of media outlets attending the arrival of the students at the airport to capture the historic event.

As the students disembarked from the plane, they were greeted by the Minister of National Education Lyudmila Merkulova. She shook each students hand, welcoming them to the Principality. The press took a number of photographs and asked the Minister for a statement to which she replied:

"This is a wonderful day for us. It is a great achievement by both governments to get this program off the ground. I am particularly honoured that my department will play an integral role in this pioneering program. We will work hard to make sure it is successful and have every student enjoy their time here. We also look forward to sending some Romanovan students to study in the Soviet Union. It is important we teach our young people on both sides that our Russian identity transcends political and economic differences.

The Canadian and United States Government has commissioned the construction of a Canal. Thomas Kierans who was born in 1913 and died in 2013 had the idea of the project.

The Canal price will be around 100 billion dollars in total. The price will be paid in half and half by Canada and US. It would involve damming James Bay making a fresh water lake and will pump it into Georgian Bay on Lake Huron where it will increase the water levels. The Canal will extend from James Bay all the way to Georgian Bay. Hydroelectric Stations will be built on the Canal.

The benefits are the following:

1. Decrease water shortage and droughts in Western Canada and in South West US.

2. Improve fisheries and shipping in the Hudson Bay

3. Improve Great Lakes quality

4. Increased electricity available for alternate uses and lowered user cost of electricity by integrating water transfer energy needs with peak power demand

5. Enhanced flood controls

6. Improved forest fire protection for both Canada and US

7. The construction and operation of the GCNA would provide economic stimulus to create employment and avoid recession. This would be similar to the economic stimulus that the Tennessee Valley Authority development and other public works had in the 1930s to start the recovery from the Great Depression.

Passport Free between United States and Canada

The Canadian Government and United States Government have came to an agreement for their citizens to travel freely without a passport or going through a border checkpoint between the 2 nations but they do need to carry some form of ID on them when they are in the other country such as a driver licenses. Commercial Vehicles such as Semi Trucks will have to go through checkpoints. This will increase business for both nations.

Following a review, the Treasury Department has approved funding for the new canal and will also approve any project overcost should they occur. It is hoped that this new canal will aid in both power supply and all other options.

The Union Government has long abandoned the ways of old, embracing a new future for the people. We embrace the core tenants of our founding documents that the government is "of the people, by the people, for the people", always ensuring that every voice is heard, no matter their creed or background. In the past this was not the case but those days are thankfully and mercifully behind us. The Klan's influence and the corrosive power of the Nazi menace forever broken. We do not force our ways on others unlike most nations. We strive to only better the lives of our people while helping the world slowly heal from the mistakes of the past. Does we see ourselves as shepherds tending to a flock of sheep? Not in the slightest. We only seek to help others out of true concern, not power. No matter what is said, we extend the hand of friendship and peace but we also understand that there are times where one must fight for what is right. But as a once great man said: It is better to jaw, jaw, jaw than to war, war, war.

Texas to build new research center

Gov. James Franklin today announced, pending approval from the Federal Government in regards to funds, the State of Texas will be home to a new research center. Named after First Civil War general and hero of Gettysburg Joshua Chamberlain, the research center will be a unique design and features. Officially dubbed the Joshua Chamberlain Petroleum Studies and Research Center, the complex is a big for its size, being a 70,000m2 energy and environmental research campus. The campus includes a Research Center, Conference Center, Library, and IT Center, together with various ancillary buildings located within a 60 hectare site. JCPSARC has a clear mission statement and a desire for the campus to reflect sustainability innately within the design. The buildings have been designed to "turn their back to the sun" to minimise solar gain, and are shaped to enclose shaded courtyards cooled by the prevailing prairie winds. It is also envisaged with a self-supporting cellular structure, providing flexible spaces that can be adapted to the multifunctional uses within the buildings. The buildings are connected by a 10,000m2 canopy, which unifies the campus and provides shading to the people moving through the external spaces. The total cost for the new research campus is expected to be roughly 300 Million Dollars but is expected to rise barring any other issues such as cost over runs and delays and should be finished in 4 years to 5.

Ministerium für Staatsicherheit, Budapest

The Ministry of State Security for the Danubian Confederation is in chaos after an unknown source in the Hellenes League leaked what they claimed were real plans from within the ICC core for how the world would be divided should a war break out between the ICC and its rivals across the globe. While the organization has refused to comment on the validity of the leak due to security reasons, they do claim that the release of these plans is a large threat to the security of the alliance and its members and will be working closely with the Ministry for the ICC and the Hellenic Government in an investigation as to how such plans were released so the culprits can be brought to justice.
