Question: The New World Assembly vote brought to my mind a question: Is it ethical to allow differing views if those views could/are seen as immoral?

Fascism is pretty awful but RPing it can be okay. How would you react if a friend or close family member told you that they are joining the (wherever you're from) Nazi Party? Also, the nation in question is set up to warn new players before they fall into the various sewers of fascism that exist on NationStates, so it is not forcing anyone to do anything. People who are interested in RPing as fascist nations can simply disregard the warning and go goosestep around in the CCD or any other regions that embrace fascist ideals.

I think it's a matter of all or nothing. It's a very slippery slope to start disallowing views based on ethics, and I would rather not start on it. Everyone has a different view on what views are immoral.

Each day at a time, each day at a time. I'd reccommend browsing the below the line comments on literally any newspaper for 5 minutes a day as an effective substitute for NSG, before eventually weaning yourself off that too.

Seems a bit like trying to fix someone’s smoking problem by making them main line heroin.

Well... um, at least the patient isn't thinking about smoking!

Well, our school had a grad meeting today. Apparently, our theme is going to be the famous Shakespeare quote: "It is not in the stars to hold our density [sic] but in ourselves." I'm not quite sure what that means, but it better be good for the $95 I'm paying to walk across the stage.

But I do that already. Sometimes I even spend more time reading the comments than I do the actual article.

Oh god yeah, sometimes I'll see the headline and just skip straight to the juicy drama in the comments. One of the very best I have ever seen was when the Mail (nb to non brits, the mail is a right wing paper that practically runs on outrage) printed a story about left wing people being more intelligent... I mean it doesn't take a sociologist to figure out the basic fundamental problems with a. Making that claim or b. Actually testing that claim but damn the BTL comments were a rollercoaster ride.

Sounds brilliant! Except I must put in my compulsory - Ew, the Daily Mail.

I remember a really good section a while ago on some trashy pop-science website (memory is suggesting it was IFLS) writing some rubbish, and the comment section was a posse of scientists all going in to disprove it.

Problem was, it was one of those things where the experts disagree on a lot of the specifics (even when they agree on the basics, which the article got wrong).

It was fantastic because you see, first it was interesting watching the debunkings, but then it got funny watching them try and one-up themselves to find out who is the biggest, most important and most clever scientist in the room. Because then that would prove the superiority of their favourite theory about that super specific aspect of the thing over all of those other, clearly wrong theories.

Good times.

Lol, misspelling destiny as density is hilarious.

Looks like a star-crossed meeting to me, but good luck all the same!

I do kinda wonder how a tour of NSG would go.

Thank goodness you do, indeed! Your threads there are absolute manna from heaven for writers.

I've wanted to get around to making one for corporations and products, and then maybe one for characters,
but I never felt like doing that. xD

Still, I might at some point get around to making a list of recurring companies/products/characters/whatever else, one day.
One day...

I've now got density/destiny Issue titles buzzing through my brain.

"A Date with Density"

Just got to find a topic to match the title now...

For inspiration consider the Simpsons episode "Lisa's Date with Density" perhaps? Not sure what the issue would be, but one good reference deserves another!

Actually, I tend to steer clear of referencing the Simpsons, believing that one of the weakest things comedy can do is to just point to other better comedies and try to ride their coat-tails. I might satirise the Simpsons at some stage, but I've got little interest in referencing the Simpsons.

If the Simpsons has already done that pun, I'll leave it to them.

The Simpson has already done something close to most jokes possible though...

Which is itself the subject of the South Park episode "Simpsons Already Did It." :-D

That settles it then. A NS issue about how all the humor's been taken by a single comedy show and it's ruining everything.
