Hate to say it, but cities like NEOM I actually thought were okay ideas.
To be honest, NEOM could work out, but the way the Saudi government does these projects is always... Questionable. Bashar al-Assad is a fraud and he never had a chance to keep power.
This offensive that resulted in the collapse of his regime was, admittedly, not inevitable, but without Iranian and Russian aid, it became inevitable.
Bashar may have said he promoted Ba'athism and other socialist ideals, but he never in practice did so. He was a nepotism-backing, authoritarian, opposition-silencing fraud.
Bashar can rot in Moscow for all I care. He'll at least fit in with the nepotism and oligarchy there. He's familiar with that style of governance.
