My good friend Laver Island,

Congratulations on your smashing victory on these elections!

Good luck,
The former Commissioner
The Lusophone Commonwealth of NorthPortugal

Currently writing "the" Dizgovzian epic poem which in-lore was used as a cry for independence/rebellion blah blah blah in 1850 (regarding the oppression of Dizgovzy under the Russian Empire from 1778-1853 and the Aþabaúrg Massacre of 1848) and man is it hard enough to write this in English

I am both excited and very much not to derive hundreds of words to modern Dizgovzian but I am basically using this as a stepping stone for a well-made (this time) Dizgovzian language

"and the great imperator went before the senate, bringing troubling news from the fields of the springs, "the canines hast thus been reduced due to human consumption!", the imperator spoke, his words trembling with the very epitome of righteousness" thus spoke Zarathustra

the soviet union was a mediocre country that was better than most dictatorships the US propped up after 1953
on a lighter note congrats to laver for winning the election and breaking yahlia's record of lowest percentage of votes to win an election (35.5% compared to Yahlia in August 2021's 35.8%)

Oooo I love me some epic poems and national epics 👀

Ah yes, I'll never forget this election where all the commissioners and Yahlia joined in for the lols, completely derailing my campaign. Hilarious in retrospect, though I remember being very salty about it at the time xD

I also remember Yahlia pleading with people not to vote for him, so it was fun to force him to take office 😎

That was that election? I could have sworn it was a different election where Yahlia sent out the anti-campaign TG

Congratulations to Laver Island for winning the elections for 3 Commissioner!
I'm sure you will do a very good job.

Classic reverse psychology

Laver got a lower popular vote margin than every (elected) US President other than JQA (30.92%, but who was elected by the House of Representatives after the EC failed to select a winner). Ignoring JQA, Laver notably got a smaller amount of the popular vote than Lincoln (39%), Wilson (41%), and Clinton (43%). Perhaps it would be nice if Europe could do ranked choice voting, but that will never pass under the hand of our Delegate.

Congratulations, Laver, on your victory. I look forward to seeing the good you will bring to this region.

Congratulations Laver. Despite all efforts to stop you at all costs, you perservered and came out victorious. Good luck and please don't implement socialism in this region

I have no clue what happened because I haven't been active on but congratulations Laver for your victory.

I swapped from Google to Firefox on my phone

Best decision ever, screw Google.

Totally

The Potatopelago shadow government begins now

I think it was, I could be mistaken in my old age though...

I think it would be more fair to say that it's less on the delegate not wanting it and more on the constraints of NS not making that type of poll possible. If there were a way to have ranked choice voting using the poll system here I'd be all for it

Ranked-choice [where you rank your top two] is only possible with 4 candidates in a poll.
Ranked choice [where you rank everyone] is only possible with 3
Two-round voting over 4 days would've given different options for the second-round poll here than two-round voting over 8.
It's all very subjective, and I have no objections specifically here because the candidate I wanted to win won

Whilst certainly authoritarian, the police state wasn't as overbearing post destalinisation and economic conditions for the majority of people were actually pretty good contrary to the stereotypical "everybody was starving lol" depiction. In fact, economic conditions got quite worse post USSR breakup and for many haven't returned to Soviet levels at all.

The USSR wasn't a utopia or dystopia, these are simplifications created by the pro and anti extremes. The truth is between.

Basically I wish the ussr had been this,

I usually just use the default browser on the device. I’m on mobile right now, and I’m using Safari.
Also, what’s wrong with Google? (I think I already know what’s wrong with Google, but-)

Google keeps and stores your data without asking you. It's predatory and monopolistic in its practices, not to mention it really shouldn't be the "default" browser on all devices.

Fair enough.
Good thing Firefox is owned by a (kinda) non-profit organization. Up at the same league as things like Wikimedia or GNU.
I've been considering switching from Edge to something like Firefox, Opera, or DuckDuckGo, but I think Edge is good enough for me.

Opera is a cheaply disguised chromium, don't let it fool you
Also it's generally scummy

Yeah, it does run Chromium...

One of my cameras can format disks better than my actual computer. smh
