Burning Balkans

The Balkans is a very complex region where several countries compete for power. The war between Italy and Greece ended up bringing a certain imbalance of power in the region, with the Greeks focused on fighting in Macedonia, Dacian forces stalking the Thrace region, eager to recover territories lost in the ancient Balkan wars.

In the view of all members of the government, this imbalance in the balance of power could bring great harm to Yugoslavia, but while Prince Paul and members of the "Konspiracija" advocated a lighter and more diplomatic measure against Dacia, King Alexander and the Prime Minister Petar Živković talked about a firmer stance, unable to convince the king, the last would be the winner.

Therefore, King Alexander I ordered the mobilization of Yugoslav forces on the border with Dacia, in order to find a joint solution with the neighboring country regarding the Greek question. Around 40,000 Yugoslav military personnel including artillery and aircraft would be deployed to the region near the triple border, in order to start the fortification of defenses and trenches in the region.

NANKING, KIANGSU PROVINCE, Peking Zhongguo |

“Funds must be raised and forwarded immediately, if great loss of life is to be prevented.”
      “如果要防止大量人員傷亡,必須立即籌集資金並轉交。”

CHIANG KAI-SHEK (蔣介石), President of the Republic of China

Cabled to the China Famine Relief Fund (中國飢荒救助基金) located at East 42nd street in New York, Paramountica. Only a year had passed since the end of the Northern Expedition that lasted from 1926 to 1928, the success of National Revolutionary Army (國民革命軍) and Kuomintang (國民黨) to rout warlord armies began the Nanking decade. It began when Nationalist Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek took Nanjing from Zhili clique warlord Sun Chuanfang halfway through the Northern Expedition in 1927. So far, its stability compared to the last decade, the warlord decade has been monumentally different. This is without reservation however you don’t have to travel far beyond KMT-controlled provinces to see that all of China has not been unified.

China Famine Relief Fund (中國飢荒救助基金) so far has raised over $340,000 since requesting $10 million from citizens sympathetic to the plight of Republican China, ten months ago. That’s less then $1 for every 12,000 Chinese on the brink of starvation. The only reason why charitably inclined persons should hesitate to contribute to the fund is that, although their money will save lives this year, they can scarcely hope that any total of contributions, however large, will suffice to permanently relieve the perennial Chinese famine. Such considerations have determined the American Red Cross to send neither food nor cash to China; but persons who give even two cents to the fund may rejoice in the knowledge that they are putting a bowl-full of rice into otherwise brinkish Chinese populace as the Republic looks towards reunifying outer provinces of China and establish a stable government to regions beyond Nanking’s current reach.

    Saint Patrick's Day

    March 17, 1929

Today is Ireland’s most important holiday of the year, Saint Patrick’s Day. Everyone in Ireland and the Irish in Diaspora is celebrating to honor the most beloved saint for all Irish, Saint Patrick. St. Patrick was a 5th-century missionary to Ireland who is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. By the end of the 7th century, he became a legendary figure and is considered a patron saint of Ireland. People everywhere are dressing up for the day by wearing green clothing with a small collection of Shamrock on top of the shirt where badges usually are worn. In every city, town, and village, people celebrate by holding a céilí (public gathering) where they play traditional Irish music, dance, drink whiskey, beer, or cider, eat special foods, and then hold a public parade.

In the capital city of Dublin, people gathered together to watch the parade and see marching bands, the military, fire brigades, cultural organizations, charitable organizations, voluntary associations, youth groups, fraternities, and finally, a royal procession with High King Patrick and his family who are also wearing green clothes with shamrocks on their chest. At the end of the parade, everyone, including the royal family and government officials, preceded to go to St Mary's Pro-Cathedral to attend mass for the feast of Saint Patrick. When the service is over, everyone goes home and celebrates their friends and family. At the end of the day, the people go outside and watch fireworks being shot up in the sky for an hour.

With that, Saint Patrick’s Day ended, and people will have to wait to celebrate their beloved saint again next year.

      THE RECLAMATION OF THRACE

    | BUCHARESTThe Gamble Pays Off

They thought he was crazy. On the verge of being deposed by his own family, for the cession of Bessarabia, the diplomats had saved him. News had come in, Greek leader Venizelos had agreed to Dacian terms of neutrality. Thrace had come home.

The following terms were agreed upon between the two parties:

    1. No further military encounters or battles would happen between the two nations.

    2. Greek infrastructure and the Greek peoples would remain unharmed.

    3. Plans would be drawn for some degree of regional autonomy, and mandatory representation in parliament for ethnic Greeks.

    4. Dacia would offer duty free grain and oil trade to Greek buyers.

    5. Greek commerce vessels would have free access to Dacian ports in Thrace.

    6. One minesweeper would be transferred from Dacia to Thrace.

    7. 10 million USD would be transferred to the Greek government.

    8. The territories of East Macedonia & Thrace, Central Macedonia, and Mount Athos would be transferred to Dacia.

In the city of Solun, formerly Thessaloniki, King Carol II would make his first appearance with a brief speech. He would go on to thank the Greek government for their cooperation, the army for their due diligence, and so on. He would also discuss plans for a new city square named Kolev Square with the local inhabitants to gain some legitimacy, named after arguably the greatest Dacian general of all time, Ivan Kolev.

All around the country, people would cheer as they heard the news. No longer would the Soviets threaten their peace, and the long lost Thrace had returned home. However, critics still remained, stating that Carol had merely sacrificed a more impactful land of Moldova for a fringe land like Thrace. But most considered it a necessary sacrifice, to guarantee a bright and radiantfuture for the country.|

TENSIONS TURN TO BLOODSHED

Eastern Galicia, Kingdom of Poland
April 12, 1929

| The fulfilled dream of a bigger Poland, following Poland's victorious wars with the Soviet Union and fledgling republics to the east, had come with drawbacks. As Poland expanded east it took in more minorities, with only two-thirds of the population now belonging to the Polish ethnic majority. The Kingdom was similarly divided along religious lines, with a significant Orthodox population in the east, and only two-thirds of the nation following the Catholic faith. The biggest ethnic minority population by far were the Ukrainians - in a country of around 31 million people, more than 5 million were ethnically Ukrainian. In February 1921, almost two years after the conclusion of the Polish-Ukrainian War, the League of Nations declared that Poland did not own Eastern Galicia, where most Ukrainians live in the Kingdom of Poland, but was simply an occupying force. This stance was altered in March 1923 following extensive negotiations - the League was promised that Poland would honour the ethnographic conditions of the region and give autonomy to its people. Thus, the region was finally internationally recognised as part of Poland. However, Poland never granted Eastern Galicia autonomy as it had promised. |

| Instead, the Ukrainians, like other ethnic minorities across Poland, were subjected to Polonisation - Polish was made mandatory in all schools, and non-Polish languages were banned in state institutions. Politically, the Ukrainians had been represented mainly by the Ukrainian National Democratic Alliance (UNDO), a broadly right-wing party which placed the wellbeing of the Ukrainian people in Poland at the top of its agenda. It advocated for the end of Polonisation and campaigned for the civil rights of ethnic Ukrainians - however, it had never been in a governing coalition, and was mostly ignored by the governing parties. |

| Political power had become increasingly concentrated over the years - the 1926 coup had put Józef Piłsudski's Sanation regime in power, and while elections were still held, many Poles doubted their legitimacy, and the governance of the nation was essentially dictated by the First Marshal. Compared to Piłsudski, King Adam enjoyed relative popularity among the minorities, welcoming delegations from the Ukrainian, Jewish and Belarusian communities to the Royal Castle in Warsaw and promising to voice their concerns. To his credit, the King had spoken with political leaders, including Piłsudski, about the plight of the minorities - but like the minorities themselves, he was ignored, even more so since 1926 as Piłsudski increasingly encroached on the King's authority. |

| After a decade of trying to negotiate more rights for Ukrainians in Poland, many had become frustrated by the lack of results. This sense of frustration, and hatred against the Poles for imposing their culture and language, birthed the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), a fascist, anti-Polish and antisemitic collective of Ukrainian nationalist movements. On April 12, the OUN made its presence known in a terrorist attack in the city of Stanisławów - two coordinated explosions occurred at a police station and a state school, killing 25 people and injuring dozens more. A few minutes later, gunmen wearing armbands of red and black - the colours of the OUN - opened fire on civilians in the town centre. Police quickly responded, engaging and killing the terrorists within 10 minutes, but as the chaos came to an end, a total of 37 dead were counted. |

| The Sanation regime responded by putting not just Stanisławów under martial law, but the entirety of Stanisławów Voivodeship, with the Polish Army called in to maintain order and compliance. Rumours circulating throughout Warsaw are that First Marshal Piłsudski was quickly summoned to the Royal Castle, though what words were exchanged between Piłsudski and the King, and what tone they were exchanged in, is unknown. |

THE SPANISH COLONIAL ASSOCIATION: LEADING THE CHARGE TO IMPLEMENT HUMANE AND ETHICAL COLONIAL GOVERNANCE OF SPAIN'S COLONIES

With the endorsement of President Manuel Azana and Guillermo de la Pena Cusi, the Governor-General of Spanish Sahara, Spain's largest overseas possession, the radical Alejandro Lerroux took on the mantle of the Director of the new Spanish Colonial Association, a government-owned agency dedicated to leading the charge to implement a humane and ethical colonial governance of Spain's colonies, similar to the Dutch Ethical Policy. The Spanish Colonial Association, or Asociación Colonial Española (ACE), was formed through the passage of the Resolution on Spanish Colonial Political Reform, passed by the unicameral Spanish Parliament on 19 April 1929. The resolution condemned the 'atrocious' corruption, poverty and discrimination plaguing Spain's colonies, and formed the government-owned Asociación Colonial Española to lead the charge to reform the colonial governance system to 'create an autonomous all-inclusive system of governance that shall allow the continuation of Spanish governance in close cooperation with a new local administrative body'.

The Spanish Sahara, south of Morocco and bordered to the west by the North Atlantic, will be the first colonial territory of the Second Spanish Republic to receive representatives, or Associates, of the Asociación Colonial Española to begin the reform process. Many Spanish settlers in the colony and Spanish Guinea have opposed the resolution and the new Spanish Colonial Association, claiming that it would destabilize the status quo and lead to rebellions and infighting that will eventually lead to Spain losing her remaining overseas possessions, which would damage national prestige so much that the government would most likely collapse completely.

The Association's vision is to create a new system of governance based of off Britain's dominion system, to allow for Spain's colonies to essentially run themselves while also being under the watchful and protective eye and rule of the Spanish government in Madrid. The association aims to lay out a 'Four Year Plan' to transition the colonies from a system of governance led by a Spanish Governor-General to a system of governance led by a Colonial Governor, who serves as the leader of a National Assembly, which will pass laws independently of the Spanish Republic. With the implementation of this new system Spain's laws will no longer apply in the colonies, hence the need for a National Assembly. Should 80% of the Spanish Parliament vote to do so, Spain may overturn the ruling of a colony's National Assembly as long as the Parliament can provide substantial evidence claiming the proposal in question was or is unconstitutional.

The first Director of the Asociación Colonial Española, Foreign Minister Alejandro Lerroux, will be running the Association while maintaining his job as the Spanish Foreign Minister. Lerroux is an adamant supporter of the implementation of an ethical, humane and all-inclusive autonomous colonial government to not only create a better life for the locals but also to extend Spain's rule over the colonies by years or even decades by delaying the possibility of unrest or insurrection in the Spain's overseas possessions.

      상하이
      Changchun | Republic of China

        A Shipment Arrives

      | The clouds would still be lifting as the trucks arrived in Changchun, the city was still and only a few people wandered the streets. The city had become quite the hub for the Korean Liberation Army, although closely aligned to the Republic of China, the forces name implied it's true purpose. General Kim Won-bong was stood in the road inspecting the trucks that had just arrived, cigar in his mouth has he looked over the crude invoice. |

General Ji Cheong-cheon: "I assume all the Mausers are there?"

General Kim Won-bong: "All fifteen thousand, for the front lines. Obviously keep your forces well stocked too."

Ji Cheong-cheon: "Mhm. I'm planning a move on some of the Japanese supply lines, crossing over the border is easy at the moment, just demoralise them somewhat."

      | Kim would nod as he handed the paper work back to the lead driver before tapping on the truck for them to move into the compound. The weapons would be divided up and supplied to the different guerrilla groups and partasans to fight skirmishes with the Japanese. A bulk of the weapons would be held back for use in the reorganisation of the KLA. |

Kim Won-bong: "Prince Imperial Uihwa still wants to press on with the re-organisation. He says we need to be prepared as a somewhat organised fighting force."

      | General Ji Cheong-cheon would snort as he stamped on his cigarette shaking his head. |

Ji Cheong-cheon: "Still can't believe you call yourself a socialist and then address someone as a royal, the reorganisation won't work, at least five percent of the force is made up of under sixteens. Another five percent are over the age of sixty."

Kim Won-bong: "I can be a socialist and still respect someones rank, surely as a military man you'd appreciate that. He fights on the same side as me, I have no reason to quarrel with him. The re-organisation into a proper army can work, and will work if people just get on board with it. I have several thirteen year olds in my unit, and they're as good as any other of my men, we're not in a position to be fussy."

      | Ji would shake his head lighting up another cigarette as he walked away waving off Kim's comments, Kim would shrug walking off back into the compound with his cigar sitting in his mouth. Although presented as a united front, the growing number of ideologies and factions within the Independence movement had made it more difficult, Kim was hoping as a socialist to hold the left-leaning faction in alliance with the KPG, but some deemed him an ideological traitor. The communists led by Kim Il-sung had refused to get behind the KPG and instead prefered setting up their own committee. Even if the war with Japan was won, the war with itself wasn't too far away. |

| IRANIAN SAGA - SEASON 1 - EPISODE 2 |

Tadj ol-Molouk Private Residence

| The private residence of Queen Tadj ol-Molouk lay deep north near the Caspian Sea. During the 1920s, the Queen often resided in the residence as a way to escape the eyes and ears of Tehran, which constantly watched her. Despite it being her own private home, it was the only place which the press nor the world had an idea about, the only place where she could meet the leader of the fascists. Tadj knew the consequences that could come upon her and Iran if anyone was to find out publicly that she had met with the leader of the Fascists. The meeting had one prime goal for her, to scare the Prime Minister during the campaign year that was about to start officially.

With the aids leaving the balcony that with it's view on the garden was a visual paradise, announced the arrival of Saedeh Jabol, the leader of the Fascist Party. Standing in her long black dress, with her adviser Ahvani standing by, the Queen would take a seat. Sighing deeply, she would raise her head upwards to the opening door, only to be revealed at her cousin Ayrom coming in. Ahavni, with a displeased expression looked towards the Queen. |

[ Ahvani, MAJOR ADVISER ]: "What are you doing here, sir?"

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "My dear cousin, I had to come when I found out."

[ Ahvani, MAJOR ADVISER ]: "Sir---"

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "Silence! Did I speak to you? Do you bark at every guest the Queen has?"

| Looking at one another with growing anger, the Queen would suddenly would break them apart with a gesture of hand. Suddenly, Jabol would enter. Wearing his black hat, and his suit, he would gather their attention as he bowed at the Queen. |

[ Jabol, FASCIST LEADER ]: "Your Majesty. It's an honour. I once again wish to give my condolences about your husband. Reza Shah was a man of---"

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Of great success, great honour and standards above the rest. I know. Please, do take a seat."

| Surprised by her demanour, Jabol would take a seat slightly looking at Ayrom which caught Ahvani's attention. |

[ Jabol, FASCIST LEADER ]: "When I gained the invitation for this meeting---"

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "You were honoured and delighted to have the ability to be in my presence, the presence of the Queen, the widow of Reza Shah Pahlavi, the great reformer of Persia and father of Iran. Correct?"

[ Jabol, FASCIST LEADER ]: "I beg you pardon, Your Majesty?"

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "I hear the same old poem for the last few months, and I am frankly getting tired of it!"

| Jabol would look at Ayrom for support, as he turned back to the Queen with a slight confused smile. |

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "I'm sure Mr Jabol has a lot to say. If you only give him a chance, Your Majesty. He can truly change your visions, your idea of the world. He's a great speaker."

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Well let him do it! Instead of butting in. In fact both of you get out. Ahvani and Ayrom, wait outside."

| Looking at each other with a dose of shock, the two men would nod and bow before leaving. |

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Well, Mr Jabol. The floor is yours. Tell me, what makes fascism so much better than communism."

[ Jabol, FASCIST LEADER ]: "Everything, Your Majesty. Communism is based on principles of destruction, our ideology is based upon the ideals of unity, strength and nationalism. Pride in who we are, a pride in our military that will take might! We stand upon the principles of strength for the country, through us. We lead our country into greatness, into---"

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Who is we? Who is that? The communists would love to see me dead...what guarantee is there that I won't stand in your way...or should I say, their way?"

| Jabol would look at her dumfounded, searching for words, for an answer and not realising that the Queen was not listening to him...she was playing chess with him. |

CUT TO OUTSIDE THE DOOR

| Standing in silence, Ahvani and Ayrom would look at each other with disgust. Two opposing ideals, outside the Queen's door were almost theatrical and symbolical. Freedom and Liberalism standing face to face with Fascism and Totalitarianism. Sighing deeply, Ayrom would look away for a moment. |

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "It still baffles me why she keeps you around. A man like you."

[ Ahvani, MAJOR ADVISER ]: "I have visions for this country. Grander and stronger than the quick and easy solutions you have. I see right through you, sir. I know exactly who and what you support. Tehran has ears, Sir Ayrom."

| It became clear to Ayrom that Ahvani sussed him out. With his eyes flaring up, Ayrom would chuckle to himself. |

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "Well, well. Who would of thought. What I want this country to be is pure of likes of you. In every sense of that word. Liberal, capitalistic, foreign-loving...and a Dress Maker...Tehran has eyes."

| Ahvani would stare at him in horror. His breathing becoming stronger, he knew that Ayrom knew. A dress maker can mean only one thing in Iran...a homosexual. Finding his way back into the situation, Ahavni wanted to test if Ayrom actually knew or just suspected. |

[ Ahavni, MAJOR ADVISER ]: "Why don't you snitch me to the Queen then? What's stopping you?"

| Smirking, Ayrom would make his way towards Ahvani. |

CUT TO THE BALCONY

| The Queen would move her eyes slowly as Jabol finished his introduction to fascism. Sighing deeply, the Queen would tap her fingers. |

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "You still haven't answered my question, Mr Jabol. If the leader is so important in a fascist regime, who will it be? Me? You?"

[ Jabol, FASCIST LEADER ]: "Well of course you, Your Majesty!"

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "A woman leading a regime based on the principle of masculine strength and capability? Wouldn't that be contradictive?"

| Jabol would hesitate to speak further, the Queen noticing the opportunity to end him and the conversation. |

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "And if that's the case, then I would be removed which answers my question, indeed it does Mr Jabol. Thank you, anyway for coming. I think I've learnt enough."

[ Jabol, FASCIST LEADER ]: "But Your Majesty, I'm sure you---"

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Thank you, Mr Jabol. You may go."

    | With growing frustration, Jabol would get up and bow before making his way to the door.

| CUT TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE DOOR |

| With Ahvani standing against the wall, and Ayrom over him the situation would get dangerous. |

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "I'll get you myself...without the need for the Queen, in that you have my word...dress maker..."

| Suddenly Jabol would come out with Ayrom turning towards him. Filled with anger, Jabol would only glare at him before rushing off. Ayrom would rush inside with Ahvani following. |

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "What did you say to him?!"

    [ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "It's private for a reason."

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "For goodness sake, Tadj!"

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Your Majesty! Must I remind you that I'm the Queen?!"

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "Must I remind you thanks to who you're the Queen?!"

| Looking at him in shock, the Queen would back down slightly. |

[ Ayrom, HEAD OF POLICE ]: "Don't forget it. Don't. For your own sake."

| Ayrom would rush out. Ahvani would look at the Queen, who with slight break of character on her face would compose herself. |

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Make sure Teymourtash knows about this meeting and make sure I don't need to make another one like this. I cannot stand boring individuals."

| Nodding, Ahvani would rush off. Tadj would however, tense up slightly thinking about Ayrom's words. |

| CUT TO |

| TEHRAN ELITE STATE PRISON, SOUTHERN TEHRAN |

| Sitting within the comfortable cell, reading the Quran is Ayatollah Aboutaleb Pishavi. Deep into his 50s, Pishavi was born into a wealthy Shia family in 1871. Pishavi was always politically active in Iran. During the Qajars, he fought for help for the needy and poor in rural areas of the country. During the constitutional revolution, he created his own party which was then disbanded and banned by Reza Shah a few years later. Soon after Reza Shah became the Shah, he began his opposition to him after cultural and traditional values were being changed, when the veil got banned and when the clergy felt attacked. Now, he fights against the Queen who he sees as a bigger threat than Reza Shah, an enemy of harsh conditions.

The guards would open the cell to the surprise of the Ayatollah who noticed the figure of a woman. With a headscarf on, she nodded slightly as the Ayatollah gestured her to sit. |

[ Pishavi, AYATOLLAH ]: "How may I help you, Mrs?"

[ Turan, DUCHESS ]: "I'm sure you can. But I'm sure I can help you too."

| Looking up at him, the woman revealed herself as Duchess Turan. The former wife of Reza Shah Pahlavi, Duchess Turan Amirsoleimani came from the royalty. Her father being the first cousin to the past Shah of Iran, from the Qajars, Turan was a powerful figure with contacts all around the country. Bitten out of the family by Tadj ol-Molouk in 1923, Turan always felt bitter towards the Shah and the Queen. However, she managed to live comfortably and in high estate until this year, when the Queen removed her and her son, Prince Gholam, from the estate and from the inner family circle. But Duchess Turan was a hard nut in the family, tough to remove and tough to forget. A woman of high bitterness and petiness, Turan is ready for sacrifice.

Smiling slightly at the Ayatollah, she would sit back slightly. |

[ Turan, DUCHESS ]: "I am in deep shock at the treatment the Muslims of this country are suffering. You on the forefront of it."

    [ Pishavi, AYATOLLAH ]: "You're a Muslim?"

[ Turan, DUCHESS ]: "A Shia, at that. I know that my past speaks for us all, but my past was filled with mistakes. I want to repair it."

[ Pishavi, AYATOLLAH ]: "You're the wife of Reza Shah..."

[ Turan, DUCHESS ]: "Ex-wife...but that is why I wish to repent, in a way. I want to repair the damage I might have done for this community, for our community. That woman that sits upon that throne, I know her very well. She's a woman of loose morals, surrounded by those that see our traditions and values as nothing more but words on paper."

[ Pishavi, AYATOLLAH ]: "I appreciate your willigness, but this is not a game a woman should play."

| Looking at him for a moment she would get up. |

[ Turan, DUCHESS ]: "You're free to go. They won't stop you after I leave."

| Looking at her with confusion and shock, he would get up. |

[ Pishavi, AYATOLLAH ]: "How is that possible?"

[ Turan, DUCHESS ]: "Your Holiness, in war it doesn't matter whether the ally of yours wears a dress or not. What matters is their status of power."

| Smiling at him, Turan would leave off. The guards would leave the cell doors open as the Ayatollah would look at Turan leaving with a sense of shock and amazement. |

| CUT TO |

| GOLESTAN PALACE, TEHRAN |

| Sitting in the cabinet by himself, Prime Minister Teymourtash was furious. Word quickly got to him about the meeting that the Queen had with Jabol, just as she planned. Sitting in his foreign imported suit of high class, with a cigar in his mouth, Teymourtash was trying to keep himself together. The campaign year is officially about to start and the Queen showing support, be it unofficial or official to any political part can result in extreme consequences.

Suddenly, the doors opened and the Queen with a slow manner to herself walked in. The Prime Minister quickly got up and bowing would notice the Queen gesturing him to take a seat. |

[ Teymourtash, PRIME MINISTER ]: "Your Majesty."

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Please, speak. I imagine there is a lot you'd like to say."

[ Teymourtash, PRIME MINISTER ]: "Yes. Meeting with a leader of a political party, in private, what's more with a fascist political leader is highly inappropriate. It strikes the delicate nerve between monarchy and politics. It sets a bad idea. What's worse, is that the leader is a fascist."

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Just like Mussolini. I'd imagine. However, that did not stop you from negotiating with him. Despite his political ideologies."

[ Teymourtash, PRIME MINISTER ]: "That's diplomacy, Your Majesty. Something that is vital for the survival and flourish of Iran."

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "So is the Queen of Iran knowing the political ideologies that are supported by her people. Mr Teymourtash. You're not here because you don't like fascism. You're here because the campaign year is about to start."

| Looking at her, Teymourtash would shake his head in disbelief. |

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "I understand your concern. You don't want me to get involved, show support. You want a clean win for your party. A clean way to remain in power. I offer you the chance to stay in that power."

[ Teymourtash, PRIME MINISTER ]: "What?"

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "I'll stay out of this election year, and in return you will pass whatever I need to be passed in this Parliament."

| Looking at her for a moment, Teymourtash would shake his head with a slight smile. |

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "I'm not a tactian nor a great political mind, but I think my offer is fair."

[ Teymourtash, PRIME MINISTER ]: "And if not? What then? You support the fascists? Your Majesty."

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "We, support fascists. I'm the Queen of Iran, and who is officially my biggest adviser? The Prime Minister. The man that signed a deal with the fascist Mussolini. I, myself, got a deal with the democratic British and Finnish and I'm about to embark on having very lucrative deals with the Egyptians. Prime Minister. My offer is fair. Simple. Easy. All I need is four major acts to be passed, and you won't see a sight of me in your campaign."

| Looking at her for a moment, Teymourtash would sigh deeply before nodding slightly. |

[ Teymourtash, PRIME MINISTER ]: "I see how far I can push them through."

| Nodding, the Queen would stand up. |

[ Tadj ol-Molouk, QUEEN ]: "Very well, Prime Minister. Now if you excuse me, I've got another meeting to attend to."

| Standing up, he would bow to her as she left. Standing by himself, he would smirk slightly. |

[ Teymourtash, PRIME MINISTER ]: "Once I win this election...your days are over, Queen Tadj ol-Molouk."

| Putting his cigar out, he would leave off as the smoke from the cigar continued to go up into the air of the Queen's cabinet, with the portrait of the Queen on the wall catching our attention. |

FRENCH, BRITISH, AND AMERICAN UNITS HOSTED FOR ANNUAL WAR GAMES

FINLAND: THE SENTRY IN THE NORTH
    GREATER FINLAND—SPRING-SUMMER 1929

Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, the grand general of Greater Finland's Armed Forces and the Chairman of Finland's Defense Council, organized a truly spectacular season of war games to take place in the forests of central Finland in the spring and summer of 1929. Military units and officials from France, the United Kingdom, and the United States were invited to participate in exercises and competitions in rugged Finland. The games are meant to demonstrate the modernizing, improving Greater Finnish Armed Forces—increasingly integrated and well-ordered—and will be held at the top of an increasingly embattled continent, with Southern European armies constantly on the move. As conflict and militarization spread across Europe, Mannerheim's games truly evidenced the constant compromise by the social-democratic government of its love of peace and cooperation in Europe and popular demand for militarization to prevent expansion into Finland. The government has espoused a policy of peace even with the neighboring Soviet Union—with rumors suggesting the Finnish Foreign Ministry's wishes to seek a non-aggression pact with them—but the rise of reactionary violence in Europe was pointing towards a more violent decade to come.

Beginning in May, the games will be a show of Finland's martial discipline and international connections. Of particular note is the attendance of General Louis Franchet d'Espèrey, a guest sent from France to oversee French soldiers and the mastermind of the Great War's Macedonian campaign. France, which supplied many of the tanks and planes currently in Finnish service, was labeled in a speech by President Väinö Tanner the "anchor of continental Europe" and a vital ally of the Greater Finnish Republic. The units of the United Kingdom, representing a pivotal friend of Finland that lately entered a deal to aid Finnish industrialization, have already been well-received among the Finns. Those of the United States—a long-time economic partner of Finland from whom the Armed Forces have purchased their chief pistol, the M1911—saw a warm welcome as well under the legendary General of the Armies John J. Pershing. The units will remain in Finland for a few months, where they will adapt to the Finnish landscape, perform various drills, demonstrate and share strategic training with the help of Finland's Taistelukoulu military school, and compete in contests ranging from marksmanship to athletics.

    The Kitale Massacre

WELLER’s FARM, KITALE, KENYA COLONY, BRITISH EAST AFRICA (Canovia)

Several miles from the town of Kitale in the British Colony of Kenya, a small agricultural farm owned by an European family called the Wellers provided some work for the local tribesmen — giving them the basic necessities such as food, water and housing on the farm’s premises. As each summer day on the Kenyan farm passed, many problems arose from the workers — claiming a Sebei tribesman by the name of “Mogo” was of “inhuman nature”, believing the man was a “wizard” and practicing “black magic.”

Hearing the allegations and complaints from many of his workers, Mr. Weller would summon the Sebei tribesman to his living quarters. Mr. Weller, dressed in standard Safari clothes and a Pith helmet, would invite Mogo to sit down. Leaning on a wooden desk, he would begin to talk.

MR. WELLER, Farm Owner: ”Hello Mogo, I’ve been hearing a lot of things about you on this farm. Many, not in a good way. You’ve been a good worker on this farm for the last six years Mogo, but unfortunately it must come to an end. I do hope you understand. I wish you the best Mogo. So please, I must ask you to leave the farm and go elsewhere. Again, I do hope you understand.”

Without a word of protest to come out of Mogo’s mouth. He would stare blankly at Mr. Weller. Standing up, he would exist the residence and head back to his hut, where his wife was tending to their youngest child.

Sitting within his hut brooding, the screams and cries of the baby grew. His wife, mumbling angrily towards herself and Mogo, Mogo would stand up and seize a spear, killing both the baby and the wife. Angered about losing his job and the allegations against him for being a wizard, Mogo would venture out the hut to kill a total of six women, three men and three children.

Upon hearing the news of Mogo’s murdering spree, Mr. Weller would send out armed Maasai tribesmen to apprehend Mogo. While the Maasai tribesmen located Mogo, they were hesitant to restrain him as they also believed he had “supernatural” capabilities. While the colonial police and a local doctor arrived on the premises — Mogo lead the policemen to the murder spots while demanding his pay. Ultimately, Mogo was arrested and charged with murder, with the result of hanging as punishment.

At the trial, Mogo was declared sane. Asked why for the killing of 12 people — Mogo claimed the loss of work, the allegations against him for being a wizard and because his wife refused him food and intercourse were the primary motives.

GREEK AND ITALIAN WARSHIPS CLASH OFF ZAKINTHOS: MODERATE LOSSES SUFFERED ON BOTH SIDES

With both Greek and Italian navies already mobilizing on all Greek naval borders, it was about time that one ship would spot another. On the 25th of April, the Second Fleet was sailing off the Greek island of Zakinthos, when the flagship, the battleship Zeus spotted small motorboats just 5 kilometers away from the ships. That was when larger ships appeared on the rough seas, and Greek admirals knew that the silhouettes of the ships were Italian. Upon spotting the threat, the battleships Zeus and Kilkis opened fire on the lead Italian ship, this was later revealed to be the Italian heavy cruiser Trieste.

The Trieste was caught off-guard at first, but then notified the Italian vessels where the shells came from, and Italian 11 inch cannons from two battleships opened fire on the fleet. The Italian shells smashed into the battleship Kilkis, and disabling her rear main battery and warping the hull. The shells also damaged the armored destroyer Psara, destroying the armor plate and knocking out the steering. This naval gunfire from various weapons of various calibers lasted for 23 minutes, and as Greek sailors would call it "23 minutes of hell". Later on, in the battle, the heavily damaged armored destroyer Psara was sunk by Italian torpedos. The loss damaged Greek morale, and as the battle dragged on, the morale got even worse. However, the undamaged First Fleet, coming from Corfu suddenly opened fire on Italian cruisers and destroyers at long range, slicing off the bow of the cruiser San Girogio and sinking the destroyer Ostro.

After the sinking of the Ostro and the crippling of the San Giorgio, the Italians got their spark back, and suddenly sent salvo after salvo on Greek vessels. The gunfire damaged the battleship, Zeus, armored cruiser Georgios Averof, damaging the light cruiser Elli and sinking the two destroyers Leon and Thyella. Following this, Greek naval vessels disengaged and the crippled fleet returned to Zakinthos. Surprisingly, the Italians didn't follow and therefore ended the Naval Battle of Zakinthos. The battle was ultimately an Italian victory and a shameful loss for the Greek Navy who suffered more losses and casualties. This battle ultimately ended the Greek naval dominance in the area and for the Italians a major victory and "one more step to winning the war".

1x Hydra class armored destroyer "Psara" (18 men lost)
1x Thiria class destroyer "Leon" (31 men lost)
1x Thyella class destroyer "Thyella" (88 men lost)

Overall losses: 3 ships and 284 men

    30 May 1929
    The Flapper Election

PALACE OF WESTMINSTER, WESTMINSTER, LONDON, Canovia

The general election of 1924 was a historic one for the Conservatives as Stanley Baldwin effortlessly led the party to victory, winning a staggering total of 412 seats within the House of Commons. With the appointment of the Chamberlain brothers (Austen Chamberlain as Foreign Secretary and Neville Chamberlain as Minister of Health) and Winston Churchill (Chancellor of the Exchequer), it strengthened the appeal of the Conservative Party in several areas such as unemployment, pensions, private housing and maternal/childcare. However, witnessing the General Strike of 1926, rising unemployment and a slowing economy, the appeal of the government began to wither — with many describing the current Baldwin Cabinet as “old” and “exhausted.”

Called the “Flapper* Election” due to women aged 21-29 being allowed to vote, it would be the first election where the young male and female populations would have a say in British democracy. With the General Strike of 1926 still fresh in the minds of voters — the ruling Conservative Party faced a challenging obstacle of maintaining their voter base.

    CONSERVATIVE: “Safety First”

The Conservative Party’s election platform was called “Safety First” — a personal message from Stanley Baldwin to ask the nation to “trust him” once more in protecting Britain’s and the Empire’s image by promoting free trade and protectionism. A major vocal point for the Conservative Party was the continuation of social reforms — such as pensions towards the widowed, orphaned and the old younger than 70. Rent Restrictions, Welfare, Colonial Development such as “starting the engines” of the local economies and reforms, and the message of “peace abroad” was the Baldwin Message to the nation. The Conservative government also announced continued and increased economic (and other) pressures towards Ireland — planting its firm stance of not recognising the Irish monarchy and recognising the original terms of the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1922.

    LABOUR: ”Labour & the Nation”

Being Britain’s largest left-wing and socialist party, the Labour Party often advocated for a better work environment for the working class. Detailing the failures of both the Liberal and Conservative Parties, the Labour Party pledges to nationalise the coal and mineral industry, national development of housing, electricity, transport, roads, land drainage and reclamation. Raising the school leaving age to 15, get rid of taxation on food and necessities, establish a measure of economic and political cooperation between nations, drastic reductions of armaments and re-establish diplomatic and commercial relations with the USSR (OsivoII). Although split on the Irish Issue — Ramsay MacDonald will pursue “true International Peace” and ease restrictions towards the Kingdom of Ireland.

    LIBERAL: “We Can Conquer Unemployment”

With the declining health of H. H. Asquith, former Prime Minister David Lloyd George took the party’s leadership once more. Campaigning on the slogan “We Can Conquer Unemployment”, David Lloyd George promised if the Liberals were to return to power in Westminster, the Liberals would reduce unemployment within one year by utilising the stagnant labour force in large schemes of national development. These schemes were supported by economists such as J. M. Keynes and Rowntree with intensive plans for house building, road construction and expanding the telephone service throughout the nation to stimulate the economy and provide jobs for the unemployed. The Liberal Party speculates 350,000 jobs alone could be generated and an estimated £30,000,000 would be saved to the Unemployment Fund. The Liberal government would support the Conservative stance of the continuation of economic (and other) pressures towards the Irish monarchy — supporting the original terms of the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1922.

As men and women line up at the polling stations, politicians wait anxiously for the results. There was intense feeling within Downing Street as Stanley Baldwin’s overwhelming majority could shrink to unfavourable numbers. With the voting closed and counted — the results would be a HUNG PARLIAMENT. As no party managed to reach the magical number of 308, a minority government or coalition would have to be formed.

    RESULTS:

    • Conservative: 260 (previously 412)

    • Labour: 287 (previously 151)

    • Liberal: 59 (previously 40)

    • Others: 9

King Ali bin Hussein, King of Hejaz & Sharif of Mecca | MECCA, 1929

    | MAMLAKAT ALHASHIMIIYN - مملكة الهاشميين |

The Hejaz Mountain ranges, hills, and endless desert was often quite the spectacle not only for prayer but a place for meditation and deep philosophical thought. Considered extremely dangerous to traverse alone, let alone without necessary clothing, food, and plenty of beverage, the Hejaz was wrapped in mythology and nuance. The "Hejaz Range" is a mountain range located in the Hejazi region of western Saudi Arabia. The range runs north and south along the eastern coast of the Red Sea, and can thus be treated as including the Midian Mountains, and being part of the Sarawat Mountains. The Hejaz Province represented the epicenter of a new growing Arab identity through the Hashemites. As Mecca and Medina is located in Hejaz, the Hashemites dominated the clerical and socioeconomic echelons.

In a particular closed off district directly North from the Grand Mosque of Mecca, a private community solely for the Hashemites thrived without much interaction with non-Hashemites. Despite occupying all of the Peninsula, King Ali sought to maintain this caste system structure as a means to secure a sense of status quo...but this was not the belief for all the members of the Hashemite Family. In the private residency of Prince 'Abd al-Ilah, a strong yet subtle breeze carried from the Red Sea to Mecca through the open windows of al-Ilah's living room. Sitting on a red ottoman sofa, Prince al-Ilah would be reading La mia vita, written by Benito Mussolini in 1928. Taking notes from the book and writing them down in a separate book, the Prince would appear deep in thought as he contemplated where and how potentially the development demonstrated under Benito Mussolini could be transformed and implemented within Arabia in a way that the conditions of Arabs (psyche, economic, spiritual, political, military) are taken into account and compatible with new nation-building goals.

However, the more Prince al-Ilah reads the words of Benito Mussolini, the more a slight resentment grew toward King Ali and the current status quo of doing absolutely nothing. Lighting a cigarette while wearing his military regalia, Prince al-Ilah would stand up from his Ottoman sofa and proceed to walk to a small balcony that looked at the Grand Mosque as well as beyond the gate that separated the Hashemite's personal district from the rest of the Arab people. Taking deep breaths and glaring at the Grand Mosque, Prince al-Ilah knew that something had to change and he would not wait for King Ali to determine when the time has come to make changes. Returning to his Ottoman sofa, Prince al-Ilah would tap his foot as he went back to reading Benito Mussolini's work. After reading the first 40 pages, Prince al-Ilah would put the book down and suddenly freeze in his position as he laid back and stared at the ceiling. Breathing slowly, al-Ilah's eyes would slowly shift back to his balcony with the Grand Mosque in the background slightly until a thought came to mind. Getting up from the Ottoman sofa to walk to his personal, small office, Prince al-Ilah would sit at his desk and write down the words Hashimic Thought.

Prince al-Ilah understood that there was a need to provide the people of Arabia with a unifying ideology that will bring Arabs together, no matter religious faith or tribal affiliation. Prince al-Ilah wanted to mold a new society and reconstruct the class and economic structure while molding the political institutions and mindset with an ideology that constructed a collective consciousness for all Arabs beneath the establishment of a new centralized state...with Prince al-Ilah at the helm and King Ali gone.

FRANCE: RECENT HAPPENINGS WITHIN LA RÉPUBLIQUE AND L’EMPIRE
      3RD REPUBLIC | PARIS, APRIL 1929

    | HELM OF DEMOCRACY, TROISIÈME RÉPUBLIQUE - | Whilst being hardly affected by the recent clashes between Italy and Greece, those events have no doubt cast a shadow over France's diplomatic views of the Fascist regime in Italy. While Greece is seen as a Western ally to nations like France, Great Britain, and others; very little has been done in support of the Greek war efforts against the Italians, as entering into another full fledged war is viewed negatively by the French people and French government. Although some strides have been made, such as the selling of a production license to the Greek government to produce the well known Renault F-17 light tank.

The Dacian Kingdom's subsequent and yet short lived attempt to take advantage of Greece by mobilizing troops to the Greek border and requesting the transfer of Thracian territory controlled by Greece for years has also placed a restraint on Franco-Dacian relations. With the French government refusing to assist the Dacians in their standoff with Yugoslavia by declining a requested order for 200 Renault FT-17 light tanks; this ultimately shows just how degraded relations have become. France is actually more inclined to help the Yugoslavians which would completely tip the scales.

The overall outlook is troubling for the French government and President Gaston Doumergue, with tensions in the Balkans continuing to heat up and the Italians continuing their siege against Greece. This has prompted the government to simply halt the continuing post-war demobilization and stand down ordered with the ending of the Great War in 1918. In fact, the French military has been doing quite the opposite with production of wartime materials continuing at a much more moderated rate of speed. Construction of factories for the production of war materials and equipment have also began to be constructed in French colonies such as Algeria, French West Africa, and French Indochina.

The French government has began pushing the narrative and idea of building a modernized, postwar military capable of defending the empire overall. This has been started with the construction a line of concrete fortifications, obstacles and weapon installations along the Franco-German border, dubbed the "Maginot Line". Additionally, President Doumergue has pushed for French society to embrace the world of modern sciences in the postwar era which is a field that French scientist have continued to lack in due to indifference's and an otherwise simple lack of interests in various fields of science. |

Several miles away from Kabul, the Royal Shah's Artillery Garrison has taken up a position facing towards the hill where the Murad Beg Fort sits. Since late December, the battery has been pounding the fort with the British imported BLC 15-pounder field gun. Captin Alam Siddiqui, a veteran of the 3rd Anglo-Afghan War was well experienced in the art of artillery. His records showed nothing but the highest of praises, even earning himself the Medal of the Hawkeye, an award given to artillery commanders whom show distinguished skill in the field of battle. Having been given command over 30 field guns he marched the battery alongside an escort of Amanullah's royal guards, chasing after Kalakani and his forces over the hills until they took refugees in the Murad Beg Fort. The bandit Kalakani had been forced to take shelter there after sustaining an injury from a shrapnel bomb. It seemed his uprising would be finished in that dilapidated fort. However, as if the heavens themselves had intervened, the Afghan winter had arrived early and severe. Snowstorms limited the battery's mobility through the hills which allowed Kalakani to slip away towards the fort. The ability of the battery to build a proper position was made difficult with snowstorms causing massive snow buildup. Another difficulty was wind speeds that caused rounds to often miss their targets. The Royal Guard made many attempts to take the fort, but the overwhelming number of defenders in the fort proved too much for the meager 100 royal guards. For the rest of December, the battery would rain shells on the fort, sometimes the rounds would knock down some walls, most times the rounds would miss. The most eventful moment in the offensive was when the spotting tower was hit, causing the whole tower to collapse in on itself. Overall, what should've been an easy victory for Amanullah's forces has become a continuation of bad luck witnessed back in Kabul.

Captin Alam Siddiqui alongside his aide Lieutenant Yoon Badinij, had been using the spotting scope to calculate the trajectory of the next shelling. It was already the 13th of January and his majesty hearing of the lack of progress being made was disheartened. The munitions drastically dwindled and the morale of Amanullah's army was hitting rock bottom, the Capitan was more than aware of the situation and was desperate to grasp at any sort of victory. Observing the fort through the spotting scope, Captin Alam made mental calculations in his head and once he felt confident, scribbled down the adjustments so that the gunners could adjust the trajectory of their guns. He wiped the ice from his eyebrows and ordered Lieutenant Yoon to give each artillery commander their new orders. Running down the line, Lieutenant Yoon quickly barked the new calculations and adjustments to the gunners and their crews. They all hastily adjusted their guns, barking commands non-stop until the last gunner was ready. With everyone ready, Lieutenant Yoon rushed back to the Captin, confirming that the battery was ready to shell the fort once more. The Captin would take an elevated position where he was observable to the whole battery, he took out his saber and raised it to the air giving out the command for all gunners to load their guns, the gunners quickly shoved the shells into the receiver and pulled the switch that armed the shell into the 15-pounders loading mechanism. Once the line was prepared to fire, the Captin would bring his saber to the ground and yell for his gunners to fire. In an instant, the 15-pounder let out a thunderous roar into the air, in a split second, the air went silent again only to be disrupted with the deafening roar of explosive ordnance hitting the ground. Six shots would hit different parts of the fort, ten hit the ground near the fort, and the rest would miss their mark by a long shot. Some shells didn't even come near the fort. Captin Alam using the scope to see his work became dismayed as the fort still stood with not much notable damage. In a flash of rage, the Captin knocked his scope over and fired his officer's revolver into the air in a fit of rage. With the shelling failing once more, Captin Alam losing any hope of bringing the fort down would send a telegram to the Shah himself, requesting for his next orders as he no longer knew what to do.

14th of January, 1929, in the middle of the night the Shah of Afghanistan, Amanullah Khan had made a most sorrowful decision. With his final offensive having failed and with the continuous chaos within the city of Kabul. He had come to the conclusion that the situation was no longer salvageable, thus he made the decision to abdicate the throne to his oldest brother, Inayatullah Khan. Amanullah had wished to stay in Kabul and fight, but his brother Inayatullah had begged for Amanullah to evacuate as his safety could no longer be secured. Thus, the Shah in a twist of irony would seek refugee from his old enemy, the British. From once waging a glorious war of liberation against the British and winning it, the Shah was forced to send a telegram to the British envoy to request they allow him to take refuge in British-India. As if the humiliation of begging was not enough, Amanullah when leaving Kabul in the dead of night to Kandahar in his Rolls Royce, his convoy was ambushed by a group of Kalakani's followers. Chased out of his own capital by a bunch of unwashed Tajik bandits, Amanullah reportedly shed tears to his wife Soraya Tarzi at this total humiliation. Meanwhile back in Kabul, Inayatullah Khan was declared the new Shah of Afghanistan to the public and on the very first day of his reign, Inayatullah was forced to barricade himself in the Arg with several of his ministers. Inayatullah knowing he had no chance to resist sent a peace envoy to Kalakani. The envoys informed Kalakani that Inayatullah's accession had been illegal in accordance to the shariah since Kalakani had ascended the throne in the Islamic month of Rajab, and Inayatullah's accession had taken place in the Islamic month of Sha'ban. However, this only emboldened Kalakani and he led further attacks on Kabul. On the 17th of January, Inayatullah, unnerved by the lack of support from the Kabulis and many members of government switching sides, surrendered to Kalakani and abdicated the throne. Kalakani allowed him to peacefully leave Kabul with his family and 3000 rupees in an RAF airlift that also evacuated many foreign dignitaries and their families from the capital. In a final address to the public, Inayatullah made a declaration to Kalakani,

DEVELOPMENTS OF THE FRONT : GREEK OFFENSIVE COINCIDES WITH ITALIAN LANDING ON CORFU

April 1929

With the battle at sea won for Italy the Government had hoped that the Greek Government would come to the table without much land-based bloodshed, however all hopes of this were dashed when the Greek Army, having assembled approximately 135,000 Men conducted an offensive into Albania. Italian Forces, well equipped for the Mountain Warfare and in high spirits due to rapidly arriving Tank Reserves and Reinforcements suffered minor setbacks along the northern sections of the Border where they were ordered to conduct a fluid defense which when locally faced with Greek superiority would withdraw to defensive lines further back. As a result Italy has lost minor concessions along the northern Sections of the Border but avoided any major losses on its part while itself being able to inflict slightly greater losses upon the attacking Greeks. The offensive of the Greek Army lost steam as it exited the Mountains around the City of Korçë where Italian Defensive lines were at their strongest, Trench lines having been dug by the local populace in exchange for payouts by the Italian Government. Each participating Citizen from the City, around 39,000 were promised approximately 50 USD [1929] along with free meals for a weeks worth of digging which enabled the Italians to avoid assigning a large portion of its own Army to construct the more basic Trenches.

Total Personnel = 135,000
Artillery = 63 Howitzers
Tanks = 45-50
Armored Cars = 9

Total Personnel = 130,000 (25,000 Strong Reserve Force)
Artillery = 326 Howitzers
Tanks = 130
Armored Cars = 82

Overall the Greeks paid for their offensive with 12,039 Casualties and the Italians while defending suffered a total of 10,592. Strategically no upper hand was gained by either side, with the Italian Frontline still strong and the Greeks having made sure not to create any gaps in their own Frontline during and following the attack. Quickly beginning to dig in along their newly gained territory the Greeks are confident that along the Mountain line they can now create a strong position from which the Italians may not be able to dislodge them so easily. For the Italians however the invasion of Corfu was a much bigger prize, as it was a re-enactment of what they had done in 1923 when 10,000 Italians landed on an island defended by a mere 150 Greeks.

Today during the landing however, there were approximately 2,000 Greeks strewn across the Island waiting for an Italian landing Force which arrived at just 7:25 on Sunday Morning. Making landfall after having been transported by a Reserve Formation of the Italian Royal Navy, the Force proceeds to land with both Naval and Air Fire support against a Greek Force armed almost entirely with small arms with little transportation. Greek Forces had no doubt been rallying on the Island with many of its Residents being mobilized for the war effort. Two landings took place, one consisting of a Marine force of 7,200 at the long and sandy beaches at Acharavi (the obvious choice) and a secondary landing of 2,800 Marines at Benitses. The Greeks had assembled most of their defensive Forces in and around Corfu Town itself due to their lack of more available firepower (which was insufficient to cover the whole coastline of Corfu and thus they centralized it into the City itself) however small token Forces were present to fire upon Marines landing at Acharavi before eventually withdrawing south due to intense Naval Fire.

6x - Generali-class destroyer
4x - Folgore-class destroyer
3x - Sauro-class destroyer
4x - Curtatone-class torpedo boat
6x - Various sizes of Cargo Ships conscripted for the war effort

While both landings in a Naval point of view were extremely successful due to Italian operations further south against the Greek Fleet (which in essence prevented them from moving north to prevent it), the Curtatone Class torpedo Boat Monzambano was struck in the Bridge by a single shot of a two gun battery (2x Canon de 85 modèle 1927 Schneider) on the southern edge of Acharavi. The resulting Explosion killed the Captain of the Vessel and five junior Officers however was the only casualty suffered by the Italian navy during the operation.

Fighting between Greek and Italian Forces continued throughout the day and into the next morning when faced with no additional reinforcements being able to come in due to the Italian Squadrons remaining present, Greek forces successfully requested a Ceasefire. The resulting agreement of honor led to the remaining 1,283 Greeks (of which approx. 250 were wounded) being evacuated from Corfu and into Greek Territory by the Italian Navy after being disarmed. During the two day battle a total of 712 Greeks and 1,201 Italians lost their lives in close and bloody fighting in Corfu town itself, although thankfully due to the concentrated nature of the battle further damage across the Island was avoided.
