A New Player

Years of bad administration and deficits were a major problem for Alitalia in the last decade, the scenario was so bad that the Imperial government was forced raise it participation in the shares of the company to prevent the worst. The recent Covid-19 crisis only contributed for the worsening of the company's fiscal situation.

Looking to avoid bankrupcy the CEO of the company Francesco Montini, along the board of investitors, came with an curious solution, the fusion of Alitalia, Air Albania and Korean Air. Just like it Roman counterpart the Korean airline have recently got into a fiscal loophole.

According to the planning, the idea of fusion would be very positive for all the affected companies, with Korean Air and Alitalia being capable to share and increase it destinations, airport hubs, airplanes and personell, without the necessity of major investments, as also decreasing costs of operation, in the other side Air Albania a small regional company would be able to expand it "brand" to all over the world.

Korean and Roman authorities have already given green light for the fusion, including the decision of details such as the colors of the new airline (Red and White), the worldwide headquartes in Seoul, Korea, along it's CEO also Korean and a Roman CFO. The official name of the company is still to be decided, but both CEO's of the three airlines have sent the documents for anti-trust authorities in Korea, Rome and European Union for analysis looking for the final approval.

THE SPANISH BULL STRIKES

MAY 2022

Passing by the Island of Príncipe and closing in on the Equatorial Guinean shoreline, the Spanish Fleet assumes a more spread out formation rather than its closed in transit formation. Aboard the Juan Carlos I, Marine General Antonio Planells Palau had been given full command over the Operations, a prestigious choice given that the Spanish Marines are the oldest Marine Force in the world (founded 1537). Preparing F-35Bs for launch, the Pilots of the Jet assemble on deck with Palau, where he gives each of them a small glass of Orujo (Spanish Brandy) so that they may toast to a new Spain, exclaiming: "Viva Ortega! Arriba España!"

The Equatorial Guinean Army is small (2,400 men strong), vastly underequipped and as they have admitted themselves, poorly trained. Their Presidential Guard is not even made up of locals which are not considered trustworthy, but instead Moroccan Mercenaries. Their Navy while having a painfully small personnel structure, maintains more Vessels than it can effectively man with Sailors, leading also to a situation where they have to employ foreigners for the task. Still, however, an extensive plan of action is needed to accomplish the Strategic requirements of the mission in a timely and efficient manner. Characteristic of many African Nations, their Air Force operates from their International Airport rather than a dedicated Military Airfield, leading to it being largely exposed to the public. In this case it also means that it lays directly on the coast, meaning that there will be no prior warning of Spanish Aircraft flying over Guinean territory before a strike occurs, which is precisely what Palau has planned to eliminate the small Air Force that the Nation possesses. Luckily for the Spanish Task Force, Equatorial Guinea possesses not even a single piece of land-based anti-aircraft weaponry, having only that which is mounted on their undermanned and small Navy.

Launched from the Juan Carlos I, 4 F-35Bs armed with laser-guided Paveway IV Bombs approach and then strike the Airport without incident, having targetted the parking areas where the Guinean Air Force was regularly observed to be parking its Aircraft and Helicopters in lines. At roughly the same time, two groups of 4 F-35Bs are launched towards the Bioko and Bata Harbours, sinking multiple smaller Patrol Boats with Precision munitions, and damaging the Frigate "Wele Nzas" which remains their only combat effective Vessel.

Following these Strikes, 4 NH90 Helicopters each loaded with 20 Special Forces members of the Marines move towards the town of Mbini which is strategically located next to the Benito River Bridge which provides the only crossing over the Benito River. This Force would be tasked with occupying both sides of the Bridge and maintaining their positions for the long term. A further 8 NH90s loaded with regular Marines departs for the eastern side of Bata where the Dictator Mbasogo had built his palace and spends most of his time under guard by his Moroccan cronies. This progresses well, with those Forces at the Benito Bridge landing without incident (there exists no military outposts of the Guinean Army there) and those tasked with landing at the Mansion having done so within the massive grounds which has masses of trees and areas with cover to do so. It was quite telling of the Guinean Government that all of their rich Citizens were in power, and all of their rich Citizens lived in the same section of the City in their own Mansions. This heavily centralized power structure was a prime target for Spain, who had the objective of seizing all of the Mansions in the area in an attempt to cut the head off the already disorganised Guinean Army.

Firefights are initiated when Spanish Marines approach the large Military Fence surrounding Mbasogo's Palace, with a singular NH90 armed with an M134 Minigun on the side door providing fire support from above, staying in motion and constantly dipping below trees to prevent the enemy from being able to get solid shots on target. Finally however, the Amphibious Forces begin initiating their landing at Utonde just north of the City, where a perfect beachline provides the ideal landing place. Unloading Tanks and Armoured Vehicles, small Platoons of mechanized Forces quickly move southwards to seize the International Airport, while others move along the Highway to assist their comrades who are already engaged at the Palace.

Facing an enemy countering them with T-55s and BMP-1s alongside half-century-old BTR-142s, many Marines would have been forgiven to feel even just the smallest bit sad for their opponents who despite everything were still willing to put up even the most futile of fights to resist them. Ultimately their disorganization would be their undoing however, as Guinean Forces focused on the tactical rather than the strategic, losing their overview on the bigger picture in favour of combatting Spanish Troops wherever they were found rather than regrouping for an effective defence. Only the Presidential Guard was thus far putting up resistance, with many of the locals split between throwing rocks at the Spaniards and storming the Palace themselves to rid the Nation of a dictator they have had for almost fifty years.

Legislative Elections Underway In Algeria
The May 2022 Algerian legislative elections have begun as polling places open throughout the country. Analysts are predicting higher turnout than the previous election, with an estimated 45-50% turnout this year compared to 35% in 2017. Several issues are on the minds of voters today, including the fight against terrorist groups in the South, democratic reforms and civil liberties, and the question of expanding Algeria’s role in global politics

The ruling National Liberation Front(FLN) party is expected to take a loss this year due to internal strife, as well as the high-profile resignation of several of the party’s more moderate & conservative members who have joined the opposing Democratic National Rally(RND) party. Members of the expanding “third-way” faction in the FLN have also made noise about splitting off and forming their own party, but this is unlikely to happen soon as such a new party would not be eligible to run in the current elections. Overall, the RND is expected to gain seats, which is anticipated to produce either a hung parliament or a slight RND majority. A coalition of smaller leftist parties, led by the Forces of the Democratic Alternative(FDA), are also expected to make small gains.

MBASOGO CAPTURED BY SPANISH MARINES AS RESISTANCE CRUMBLES

JUNE 2022

Having continued well into the night, Spanish Marines were finally able to move into the Palace of Mbasogo, facing token resistance by remaining Moroccan Presidential Guard members inside. Clearing Room to Room and taking multiple losses while doing so, they were finally able to locate Mbasogo who was hiding in the library amongst much of the Staff, pretending to be the butler. His ploy did not succeed however as Spanish Forces were extensively briefed on the identities of many higher ranking Guinean Individuals, and as such had researched his appearance. Sporadic firefights still took place across the Capital City of Bata as Spanish Troops took possession of many vital Structures such as the huge Hospital General de Bata.

Tragically, one of three helicopters carrying Troops to the City of Niefang for an initial insertion was downed while coming in to land, which killed four of the twenty-two armed forces members aboard. The short-term assessment determined the cause of the crash to be a ruptured hydraulic hose which was damaged due to a luckily placed 12.5mm shell. Resistance within Niefang itself was not large in scale, limited to heavily armed police officers rather than the Guinean Military which at this point had already expended most of its manpower and equipment in an unsuccessful defence of Bata.

Marine General Antonio Planells Palau made a short press statement in front of Spanish Army Journalists who had been kind enough to provide footage to foreign media outlets, in which he stated that as Mbasogo has been captured they shall prepare a trial regarding his bloody reign in the country, in which local officials and victims shall be called as witnesses. Palau further stated that while Spain was not going to rule out self-rule for Equatorial Guinea, it was determined to oversee the Nation in the short term in order to return normalcy and increase the standards of living within the Country. Naturally, he did not specify what short term meant and in fact dodged the question multiple times. The focus in the current moment however was on the fact that the long-reigning dictator had been toppled.

Well...Saudi Arabia was intervened in by the US after the rise of a rouge regime, and Iran is a very liberal, Western-leaning country in our timeline (no revolution). Saudi Arabia and Iran have had a few disagreements, but nothjng major as they are both members of MECO (the Middle East Cooperation Organization).

As for a timeline, unfortunately we don't have that, however most people's factbooks include prior history and that.

| Zahani's Trial |

| Eva decided to stay, and Zahani was informed after a while about the choice but Natsya was on her way to the embassy. Zahani knew very well that Natsya would be followed, that the Tsarina could offer protection but only to a certain point and from here on now Zahani and Schweiss would have to come up with a plan to take Natsya away, to keep her safe. The Tsarina was never part of this situation officially, she only met with Eva and Eva accepted her offer. The Embassy from the outside was working as usual, but from within it was very different.

Zahani made sure that Natsya was transported through two different vehicles to try and slow down the SRGI services following the actual vehicle. Sitting in her office, wearing a blue pantsuit she would be sitting opposite Ambassador Schweiss. The dark night of Moscow was a perfect time for them to gather at the Embassy in order to avoid any official links appearing. After a moment of silence, the buzzer within the office lit up, Natsya arrived. Zahani would get up nervously as the doors to the cabinet opened and Natsya would walk in with two women beside her. Smiling slightly she would not at Natsya, before taking a seat. |

Natsya knew she wasn't welcomed but also knew that right now was not the time to make a scene and be disrespectful. She took a seat and saw another man. With a peculiar face, he seemed extremely nervous and agitated. He would rub his hands constantly while look away. And now it came to her. "The" Ambassador. The survivor of the great embassy fire. The savior of the disappeared of Moscow was here. It did not make sense to her now. Tsarina was a logical entry in her life. But now Iran and Germany ? She would sit as the cosy atmosphere of the embassy soaked in.

Schweiss would stay up in a corner of the room staring at her then away. Wondering how on earth this was happening.

| Looking at the two, Zahani looked down for a moment before looking at the two agents standing at the door. She was a woman of practicality, to her this situation was uneasy to say the least. She would look into her notebook which had an order from the Prime Minister not to get involved any further. For a moment, she looked at it before looking back at Natsya. Covering her notebook again, she would sigh deeply and as if it was nothing just spoke. |

[ Ambassador Bernard Schweiss ]: "I know but, how. You were probably followed to here. They know where she is. Or perhaps not I don't know"

He walks away again nervously towards a large piano that was used for receptions and leaned with hands on it.

[ Ambassador Bernard Schweiss ]: I have the asylum papers ready but, what about the Russian reaction

[ Natsya Krashina ]: What did you say ?

Schweiss felt uneasy. He took out a paper from his jacket that unfolded in front of her nervously

[ Ambassador Bernard Schweiss ]: This was sent to me two days ago, your parents look, they filled it for you. Its an asylum request for Germany.

[ Natsya Krashina ]: Just for me ? What about my parents ? They will stay ha.. and they will pay the price of my escape

Schweiss looked at the Iranian ambassador for support. It would be difficult to convince a girl to leave her home and parents for her own safety.
