You mean as a prize for a contest? Absolutely not odd.

It has been so for nearly two weeks now but I am free from college and have left with a Distinction on my overall course and a certified entry to university. There wasn’t any fanfare or graduation ceremony, but my tutors got me a load of university stuff like notebooks, pens, university life book, a couple of cookbooks, a big card and all that. It felt really nice.

You're welcome.

That being said, everyone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yUOLgTexHs
A documentary about how the Trabbi was made, the cult-car of the DDR. It has subtitles. For those interested in how cars were made in Socialism... ; )

Tho, the car would be completely illegal to drive now.

Heavens, by the security standards shown in the factory, it would be illegal to produce!

Ain't that the case with many cars, and we have in the capitalist front something similar to the trabant, one whose... Explosive appearance made it a target of scandals.

Heard of the Ford Pinto??

No, but... there is a German Rhyme: "Ford fahren, Heim gehen."
It is a word play, as Ford can also be understood as fort, in the sense of away. The whole phrase thus can mean either "Drive away, walk home" or "Drive a Ford, walk home."

Interesting.

Takes Note

Well with this car, the latter is the best definition as the Pinto was an moving coffin for those who drove it, the fuel deposit was located in the read-end, close to the bumper; and it meant that if a crash happened the car would burst out in flames

Well... Ford fahren, zum Himmel fahren...
(Drive a Ford, go to heaven.)

Yup, how did that got into production is still a mystery.

I vaguely remember Rupudska once saying that if a Trabant and a BMW met head on the BMW driver wouldn't even feel it

That might be a hyperbolic, but the Trabbi wasn't exactly a tank.
It wasn't supposed to be either.

Btw, Mervay, saw your order, I'll reply to it later. : D

When the Spartans arrived at Marathon a day or two late - they were delayed by a feast to Apollo - they surveyed the battlefield, congratulated the battered Athenians on winning, and went home

At least they were polite...

Granted at that point they had also force-marched 220 km in 3 days so were probs very... laconic.
