Oh thanks you 😊

The united federation of asia

Hi

Hello, The united federation of asia. Welcome to the Assembly of Sovereign Nations. Please enjoy your stay.

So, we have an embassy request from the new, single-nation region ACAB, which declares its acronym to be "All Communists Are Bad" (ostensibly re-appropriating it from a similar phrase disparaging police). It is a pro-capitalist and anti-communist/anti-socialist region, and judging by its flag, would appear to be ideologically anarcho-capitalist.

I wanted to put the question to regional residents, do you support this proposed embassy?

Well, All Communists Are Bad was nuked, so I don't think there's anything more to deliberate on. As you were.

Merry Christmas.

Happy New Year!

Greetings everyone!

I was just kicked out of a region where free speech was not tolerated.

Hoping to have a better more tolerant future here.

I see. Very interesting.

There are only a handful of players in this region, so I'm sorry if discussions tend to be few and far between. Anyway, while I can't say that I can guarantee free speech absolutism, the ability to speak one's own thoughts without fear of threat or censorship is necessary and desirable in the vast majority of cases.

I ask that we all be civil in our conversations here; however, that principle should not be allowed to impede a free and open exchange of ideas.

Welcome to the Assembly of Sovereign Nations.

Many thanks!

I am not particularly active in the RMBs nor am I - IMHO - particularly nasty in my rhetoric but while I accept people may disagree with me, I do not accept censorship.

Anyway, judging by your tags, I believe I will be a good fit.

oh I am also a big flag-making enthusiast so if anyone needs a new flag, feel free to PM.

Speaking of censorship, I did find the Uganda story to be quite amusing.

Those authoritarian bastards had it coming!

Better yet, transmales will FINALLY be able to go to female prisons; America leaves the intolerant dark ages behind............

Hear hear. I'm glad that their insidious designs have been uncovered and revealed for all to see.

Don't hold me to this, but I believe the politically correct term is transwomen. Regardless, this is an exciting and progressive time to be alive.

I also expect that we shall soon enter a time of healing and cooperation, now that I hear Uncle Joe has rescinded Trump's racist executive order prohibiting federal funding of programs that engage in race and sex stereotyping and scapegoating. Thank Government for fair and honest news sources like CNN.

BLM! BLM!

Didn't there use to be another 'uncle Joe', once?...

*Corrective race and sex stereotyping and scapegoating

We must all look to the example of the rainbow nation itself. If we're lucky, we'll be able to share the glorious fate of the immoral white farmers in the famed lands of southern Africa.

Say, where is the nearest Truth & Reconcliation Commission? I have some unconscious bias sins to confess. There is no such thing as too many self-criticism sessions...

We have much more work to do than they, for in this liberal white supremacist nation, we have the shame of widespread civic nationalism multi-racial whiteness.

The Realist Polities wrote:Say, where is the nearest Truth & Reconcliation Commission?

I'm sure there will soon be one coming to a town near you. Both sides of the Party are calling for it.

Awomen.

So, I've been watching the GameStop Revolution unfold over the last two days, and am at a point where I am pondering, what exactly is Robinhood's culpability in this mess? So far, the story I've heard is that Robinhood (as well as Schwab, TDAmeritrade, WeBull, and Interactive Brokers) stopped allowing buys of GameStop, AMC, Nokia, Blackberry, and some others, after the Reddit group r/wallstreetbets (and a few big players) piled in long positions to squeeze shorts that were held by Melvin Capital Management and other hedge funds.

Melvin in turn, has a large investment (at least $2 billion) from the hedgefund and high volume trader, Citadel, which is purported to carry out a lot of Robinhood's commission free trades (and possibly other brokers', but I don't know about that right now). That said, it should also be noted that Citadel denies it has a hand in Robinhood's refusal to allow these buy orders.

So, I would begin by asking, what exactly is Robinhood's obligation in this mess if their largest trade executor refuses to carry out Robinhood's retail investors' buy orders? Is Robinhood just hedging their bets, trying to to anger their HVT partners, or do they have a more direct role to play? Barring the most cynical possibilities, what are the reasons for the other brokerages to join in on the halt?

From what I understood, the big Wall Street hedge funds were long on GameStop shorts, having manipulated news over the past few weeks to artificially create a bearish market for Gamestop. Problem started when the small Reddit investors didn't react as expected and decided instead to hold their stock which as a consequence began to reappreciate. This reappreciation would have provided big profits for the small investors and big losses for the Hedge Funds shorters (HFS) which are rumoured to have inclusively shorted more stock than there was in existence.

At this point there was no need for any intervention at all for the markets go up and down naturally and if some lose, others win but instead, RobbinHood and Ameritrade decided to suspend the stock in order to protect the HFSs from big losses. This suspension would have, under normal conditions, led to a generalised move to sell - as the stock would have acquired the reputation of volatility and unrealiability - but again the small investors instead decided to hold thus creating a showdown with the big funds.

Robbinhood when announcing the suspension never cited they were being pressured by Citadel. Quite to the contrary, Google stopped 100 000 1star reviews from being added to Robinhood's rating on the GPlay Store (where it still holds a 4.5* rating), which denotes collusion and cartel like behaviour by the big Wall Street firms ...on behalf of Robinhood.
This in turn immediately makes transparent that Robinhood management must have received big payoffs to allow their own company to be destroyed, in order to save the HFSs.

That is interesting, and enlightening, since I was under the impression this was going on only recently. However, you're correct that a look at the price chart (which has an unacceptably long URL, but which can be quickly reached from https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/GME?p=GME) shows that this has indeed been long in the making. However, it really looks like things started to go nuts around January 13, when both price and volume shot way up, ushering in the current volatility regime. It's clear that there was a significant positive order flow during this time, which looks to me like more than just holding their positions, not that there's anything wrong with this.

Right. However, there's the truth, and then there's the Truth. The reality may be exactly the way it appears on the face of things, but then again, other possibilities do exist. I couldn't say with any authority one way or another. For the time being, let us take Robinhood and Citadel at their word.

Oh, this is disappointing. I thought the app stood at 1.1 stars. Maybe this was Apple, or maybe a scrub happened since I last heard it reported. Perhaps it's calculated as a Bayesian estimation with a really strong prior?

So, the charges of unfair business practices currently consists of:
1) collusive practices on the part of brokerages (Robinhood, Schwab, TDAmeritrade, WeBull, and IBKR), who acted without coercion to halt (or greatly impede) new long positions made in select stocks, in which hedge funds such as but not limited to Melvin, held significant short positions
2) Actions on the part of Google to protect one of its app store partners from public backlash by artificially supporting its rating
And others I've heard:
3) Characterizations by corporate media to portray members of WSB as either needing protection from their own naivete, and/or as being bigoted populists and/or social dregs
4) Actions on the part of certain tech firms such as Discord, and possibly Reddit to deplatform WSB due to selective enforcement of claims of hate speech, specific examples of which remain undisclosed

Are these fair statements? Did I leave anything out?

Hehe, yeah. Good times.

No, they literally removed the 1* ratings and reversed to the status quo ante, then blocking users from rating the app any further.

Well, predictably, the little investors are now being accused of being white supremacists following shady propaganda from Moscow...

Al-Baghdadi is an "austere religious scholar" but Trump would be drone-striked as a terrorist. So, part and parcel of living in a normal moderate centrist world then...
