Ah, sorry Yahlia, I wasn't on NS the celebrate your birthday. But allow me to ask how is your 26th year, so far! :) They generally say age 25 is the last age of early young adulthood, but I don't know this is valid for rest of the world. So, how it is going on?

Hmm... May I ask how you do it? Out of curiosity, and having few advices from veterans would be nice. Because words "manipulate" and "election simulation" really drew my attention, because I'm trying to build an RP not like "I put a poll on strawpoll and let people choose", rather, evolving around vote, manipulation, tactical alliances and little bit math.

Strategy games I played often have mid to low tier stories, and it seems it is very hard to put up a good story with also a good telling. Generally they are my favourite games, so it is little bit hard to answer this question.

For best story, I would say GTA 4, because Niko Bellic is a character I can resonate with (it turns out Easter European people share somewhat similar mindset wiith Turkish people, not so suprisingly for me) and from his perspective you can clearly see American nightmare dream from his eyes. World is potrayed as dark, and you realise, in that realm, money decides whetever you are living in a dream or a nightmare. Amidst that, Niko still conflicts between the reality and tries to find meaning in either revenge or redemption. And you can tell I love skepticism and cynicism, Niko has plenty of them. (Spoiler alert: It doesn't end well in both options, like Greek tragedy, you can never truely escape from your past.)

Although, perhaps not fully stories but as story telling and make you feel responsible, tno mod really nails what can be done in a strategy game like hoi4. Meanwhile there are lots of contrevorties in mod deveploment, how mod percieved and its community (there are wehraboos crawling around like rats, unfourtunately) I am really amased with how you can do with a strategy game, turning into an analog semi-horror, semi-drama game. Yeah, "You get +%5 division defense but you just recruited school-age children, are you happy with that?" or "In the name of the Regent, you 'purrified' lands by poisoning it with chemicals, God 'bless' the Regent..." sort of short story pieces.

As for the worst story, I would say Crysis 2. That's right, first game was a breakthrough, not due to story but at least it was something usual. But for 2nd game, I have a favourite comment "Crysis 2 was the middle-age 'crisis' of this game series". Nanosuits were made into things make user like a Greek God and into universe center. Alright, do that, but what about story? In first game, North Koreans could build it, your team felt like they were humans and you controlled a soldier. In second game, so you control that most important VIP person in the universe, so what is special about it? (It is "it" not him, will explain that.) What does it give special about the story? Well, nothing, I guess. Eventually, they made the user of nanosuit die, put another "half dead" guy into it and the suit rebuild the guy. Basically, suit uses flesh, bones and muscles to operate. There was a story potential, about using yourself for goals to lose your humanity and even your body, or preserve what's little left; but they just messed up using that, final product was A Greek God like thing jumps around battlefield and kills bad guys. No deep characters, no dilemmas.

As if I expect y'all to be around on my birthday, it's no worries XD
Today has mostly felt like any other, so it's pretty luck lustre thus far, but that's okay. A bit of routine and a lack of drama might be nice after the rollercoaster of this past year.

"The story was great, the graphics were insanely gorgeous - like, imagine how beautiful cut scenes and dialogue scenes were in Zero Dawn? The whole game is that beautiful. The only caveat is it's so big I'd highly recommend playing on a PS5 (or equivalent if it's not exclusive) d/t the rendering problems I had on 4.

If you're looking for a game with dynamic choices, the Horizon series is just not really that kind of game, but if you like puzzles, problem solving, themes of community and interpersonal relationships and all the complications that involves, it's a great story."

She also sent me some screenshots of her game that she wants to show you. I'll send them to you on Discord here in a few.

Looks like I’ll be trying that one too. I’ll scuttle into the discord later to check out the pics.

If you’re still in a factbook mood after all these hours maybe you could come up with some sort of prohibition law (not necessarily alcohol) and implement organised crime to your nations lore that attempts to counteract the law.

Intriguing, GTA has caught my eye a few times, though mostly for the driving in an open world that isn’t just racing aspect. Thankyou for all the interesting answers everyone, I asked originally to identify mistakes and successes in storytelling as research but have come away with a few sets of game recommendations :)

Ah, a man of culture I see. ☕️

Niko Bellic is tied for my favorite pre-RDR2 Rockstar protagonist with the J-Man himself. A badass, yet tragic figure trying to find his way through the cesspit that is Liberty City. I hope he is having a good and peaceful retirement. He of all people deserves it.

Much like her election there will be no choice.

Thanks for the compliment, but man of culture bit of overestimate, I am sure there are more games out there in better at story and storytelling.

Also, don't let resonating with a character fool you, I opened up and looked a video, complication of Niko committing crimes and calculating his sentence. Result is too much to say for a person we think deserves peace. But perhaps he deserves redemption. That was the point of story not having any good ending, at all. Not like GTA 5 "C" ending of trio hits them all...

Of course not. I am just saying you have a good taste in video game protagonist.

And of course Niko Bellic is a not a "good" person. If we take everything he has done literally, of course he should be imprisoned for multiple life sentences over. But considering the highly satirical universe that the setting is in (the people that live in this universe are absolutely insane), the trauma he has had growing up and fighting in war-torn Yugoslavia, and the measures he goes into protecting his loved ones, I would say he is definitely one of the better people in the GTA universe, even if he is a gunman-for-hire.

See my very simplified explanation on Forestian board. That’s regarding the elections. Manipulation comes with initial “ticket assignment” to parties based on a region / district and who’s most favourable there. That’s the RP part of it, all the rest is randomised outcome I can never fully predict regardless of my initial assignments

As for the issues, I just try to pick the options based on how the current leader and their agenda see it. Now technocrats, futurists, business and greens are in charge of national politics so all further decisions will be made accordingly till the next elections

Just recently I’ve discovered GTA 4 is now playable on Mac so I installed it and started the story. I’ve played this game many years ago and loved it a lot but didn’t even reach the half of the storyline (for reasons unrelated to the game itself: I had to start over again and again bc I was a little hacker and modified my pc way too much and often so it used to crash lmao anyway)

So, all these years later, I rediscover Niko and his story. Besides, I always believed GTA 4 has the best physics in the series (predominantly car-wise), especially comparing to “toy-ish arcade” of SA and the weird world of the 5

Edit: but I have completed the two other stories of GTA4: the one about biker gang and the one about gay Tony

The very first toiletest Laver commissioner poll will, I think, have dramatic repercussions that will be felt across the entirety of Europe for years to come

"Should Europe declare itself a Toiletist-Socialist Worker's Republic?"

So after the National assembly’s block the martial law was lifted after 6 hours (it was only effective for 2-3 hours)
This was so unprecedented for South Koreans cause there was no real emergency situation, only (lots of) peaceful protests calling for him to resign. Yoon has been very unpopular throughout his term cause he’s incompetent idiot and was involved in a scandal among many other things. (The Itaewon crush just to name one) Recently polls dipped below 20%, weekly protests being held and universities demanding his resignation.
There was just lots of shock and anger after the president enacted something last used in the dictatorship era, people gathered at the National Assembly to block soldiers from entering the building, and the members entered and voted unanimously to block the martial law. Now the impeachment has already been filed. It’s only been 8 years since Park was impeached.
So yeah Yoon managed to embarrass the country. And giving people the shock of a lifetime, and also ruined countless sleep schedules. You’ll soon be out of office cause we like not getting shot :)

Based on the small thing he did here, I'd say he kind of deserves it.
