Hardly. Raids have been going on for 18+ years.

Meanwhile Equilism, we have been having some problems with our forum the past week. Not that anyone noticed since it's not used....which is fine of course as it will likely being going away in a few months. I don't yet know if the problem is fully resolved. Our database suddenly started rapidly expanding and contracting between 150Kb and 13Gb. Yeah, that's weird. Our hosting account only allows half that max out.

The forum was also overdue for an update. So naturally in implementing the update, the forum failed completely. The automated updates that have worked for years failed this time and screwed all the files and threw nothing but errors. IPB suggested using the 'Support Tool' which of course also failed with errors. So I had to perform a complete manual rebuild of the forum....twice....before it was back up and running.

I had a long night last night. *chuckles*

Everything appears to be running smoothly now, but the size-changing database is still of unknown cause and unknown resolve, with it currently sitting at 1.5Gb. Westwind is monitoring.

Thank you for all of your hard work, Westwind!

My pleasure. *tips hat*

And currently it is 537Mb. O_o

Trivia that no one but Westwind would know: The temp folder takes up the most space on our hosting account because it contains our site statistics and logs back to the beginning. 1.4Gb of stats today, and that's after deleting 2005 - 2012 to make room on the server a few years ago. The graph of the past years showed all this heavy traffic in the beginning two years, then it trails off to this flatline with an occasional short lived rise every few years - 2008 and 2011 being noticeable blips.

The data since then shows small rises in activity for about a year from November 2013 to November 2014 (around the time of my TWP Delegacy), and again March 2016 (the time the Township was established) to April 2017.

On April 10, 2017, we had 10 visitors to the forum. On October 23, 2017, there were 6 visitors. In between those six months there was never more than three per day - 95% of the time it's one. And the same one-per-day average continued after that time until three years later on October 26, 2020 when we had 8 visitors as I announced I was running for Governor General. We immediately returned to one-per-day.

Cards Symposium? What's that?

Greetings, everyone! To celebrate the fact that cards trading has lasted so long as a prominent feature, The North Pacific hereby invites YOU, fellow NationStates user, to attend our first-ever Cards Symposium!

Starting first-thing on February 21 2021, players finding themselves participating in this event will get to experience a wide range of activities, whether it be: 1) competing in games to win awards, 2) listening to experienced card users giving lectures, and more!

To participate, please click on the LinkDiscord invite in order to join!

What exactly will take place at the Symposium?

With all honesty, there's so many things that it'll prove difficult to name! There will be events such as card collecting competitions, card lotteries, long-time users speaking about their experiences in cards, and even gaming rooms such as an Among Us match, so be assured that there will be more than enough events in order to make your participation worthwhile~

Aye, seems NS is chocking on all closing all those Embassies. NS glitches can be interesting, they don't happen as often as they used to. An NS glitch caused the NPO in The Pacific and they've been there ever since.

So has obnoxious behaviour online, corrupt mods, and glitches but doesn't mean that they are necessarily a good thing nor enjoyed by all, especially when choice goes out of the window.

I was only making a point but it clearly didn't get through to you.. Sorry, I should've realised that it was far too idiosyncratically put.

Nickelodeon 11 wrote:- snip -

Suppressed posts always get that treatment here. Why would something we want suppressed get put out in a quote for all to see?

This time was for my amusement.

Isaris there's your answer

Enough.

Ah something actually happened for once and I missed it, lol.

The database continues to expand and contract between 650MB and 3.7Gb. I've been doing some forum clean up and archiving. I can't trust any database backups when they vary in size so dramatically, but maybe some cleanup will help.

I was going to close the forums in March, but had extended those plans till August. At the moment though, I don't know if it will stabilize well enough to extend it. I am having to monitor and manually run tasks daily. We shall see. Daily tasks are designed to be run with forum user activity. Being there is no activity, the tasks are not getting run. So I'm running them manually.

The size of our database has been a problem, especially with upgrades, since about 2006, so we've managed well this long. There are also elements of past forum mods still stuck in the database. The Arcade, the Casino, points systems, the Army game. Superfluous data that can't be removed without breaking the database relationships. That's also been an issue for a long time as well.

12 posts away from 361,000 posts on the forum. That's a lot of conversing.

Don't worry you didn't miss anything, just the usual double standards.

I missed the drama!

Evading a ban is against NS rules.

Question—I just fired nuclear weapons at another country as part of the issues Alexanderian Macedonia received. What are the potential repercussions of this?

Nothing beyond possibly another issue about it.

After about five hours work last night, it finally looks like the forum database is stabilized. *knock on wood* Almost 24 hours now without the endless database resizing.

It appears the problem was not the forum, nor the database itself. It seems the problem was the php installations from the host. Long story short... everything is now running as it should be. And our forum software and theme are upgraded. I'll continue to monitor.

Also how is everyone? I hope everyone is staying safe! I can't wait for the vaccine, but looks like I will have to wait a bit..

News from the Office of The Governor General
March 2021

- After a month long struggle with a cranky forum database, it appears the problems on the forum have been resolved. The forum and theme software have been upgraded in the process.

- All Banned accounts have been deleted, as a pruning of forum membership begins.

- International Avenue has undergone a renewal, having been cleansed of outdated Embassies and unnecessary clutter removed to the archives.  I hope that Ambassadors and Visitors from our friends around NS will find the clean-up has made their visit more tidy, and their Embassies easy to access.

http://www.equilism.org/forum/index.php?/forum/27-international-avenue/

- A review of access to Private Foreign Affairs has resulted in the removal of access for 12 inactive accounts. Other access reviews are ongoing. Military Access has also been reviewed and inactive accounts removed.

- Equilism has appreciated the interest of Republic of Conservative Nations in establishing an Ambassador exchange, however our activity level does not allow us to engage with them at that level of relations at this time.

- The Office of the Governor General is issuing a new policy for ingame Embassy exchanges. It has been Equilism policy to deny most ingame embassy request that did not coincide with an offsite embassy exchange. Times change though, and Equilism Governor General Westwind and World Assembly Delegate Isaris may accept ingame embassy requests from regions with at least 15 nattions. Smaller regions may be considered on a case-by-case basis for cultural, event, and personal relationships with Equilism. Any ingame embassy request may be denied for any reason, but usually would occur in an instance where the two regions are of an incompatible nature. For example, Nazi regions embassies will not be accepted.

- The Equilism Archives have been moved to the University of Equilism, and the Equilism/AOSS Treaty negotiations of 2010 have been declassified and placed in the Archives.

- Enjoy Spring!

The one-sentence description for the vaccine phase here says I'm eligible now, but the detailed version says not yet. *shrugs* Westwind is in no hurry, and is unconcerned.

I am getting the following error when I am trying to view any thread in the forum.

"[[Template forums/front/topics/topic is throwing an error. This theme may be out of date. Run the support tool in the AdminCP to restore the default theme.]]"

Edit: When I switched to Invision's default theme from Snapshot 4.2, everything works fine.
