A gaggle of interns has been tasked with providing an update on the situation in Tryust. As they enter her private study, interrupting her evening tea, their hands tremble. The room has the charm of old academia: dark wooden bookshelves line the walls, filled with tomes that cover the last millennium of Staidish history. A large walnut table the center of the room, itself over 300 years old. It’s surface is cluttered with maps and charts. Around it are a dozen high back wing chairs, upholstered in a deep green.

Verity Emeline Fennel sits at the far side of the table, smiling warmly. Her eyes, however, show the slightest hint of annoyance.

“Good evening, kinfolk,” she begins, her voice setting them at ease, “I trust you’ve brought news from Tryust.”

A young woman with neatly tied-back hair and the faintest sheen of nervous sweat on her brow, steps forward."Yes, Verity. We have an update on the situation in the occupied territories." She glances at her colleagues, who nod slightly in encouragement, motioning to continue.

"In the southern half, where we have established control, things remain stable for now. Our presence has brought a measure of order, but the situation remains delicate. There's a strong tenseness, particularly among those who feel displaced by our occupation." The intern pauses, her eyes flicking to a map that has been placed onto the table, highlighting the southern region in a soft blue.

Verity Fennel nods, her fingers tapping rhythmically on the table."And the north?"

Another intern, a tall young man with a slight stammer, takes over. "V-verity, the northern extremists continue their campaign of aggression. Just this week, several missile attacks were launched against foreign aircraft and naval vessels. Their aim seems to be to destabilize the region and provoke a larger conflict."

The Verity's eyes darken, her expression hardening as she absorbs the news. "Missiles aimed at civilian ships? And aircraft too?"

"Yes, Verity," the young man replies, his voice barely above a whisper. "They’re becoming more sophisticated with each attack. We suspect they may be receiving external support, though we haven’t confirmed this yet."

For a moment, silence reigns in the room. The Verity's gaze remains fixed on the map, her mind clearly racing through the possibilities, the strategies, the risks. Finally, she speaks, her voice firm and resolute.

"Staidear will not tolerate these provocations. Our mission in Tryust is one of peace and order, but make no mistake: we will defend our people and our interests with the full might of our forces. You will prepare a report for the Fellowship Assembly, detailing these incidents and outlining our response options. We will not be drawn into a conflict on their terms. We shall dictate the course of events, and we shall do so with the full support of our people."

The interns nod, scribbling notes with renewed urgency. As they begin to gather their materials and prepare to leave, Verity Fennel’s voice cuts through the air one last time.

"And remember, kinfolk," she adds, her tone softening just slightly, "our strength lies not just in our power, but in our unity. We shall face this challenge together, as one people, under the light of the Fellowship."

The Rio Kongregacija has overflown its banks in First Parish, one of the nation's largest cities. As a result, life in the city has come to a standstill.
