President Soula-Pierre Signs Executive Order Ending Petrol Stations in Central Norcria

The Presidential Complex in Laayoune recently announced that President Antonia Soula-Pierre signed an executive order, effectively ending the construction of the Adrar-Zouèrat Drilling Stations. This is part of her ambitious plan to address Norcria’s contribution in the climate change situation that the planet is facing at the moment. It is a huge step in slowing down the nation’s carbon footprint, and diversifying Norcria’s petroleum-dominated economy. However, this doesn’t save the president from backlash, as the Adrar governor, Braden Moreno, criticized the president’s move, calling it a “job-killing act”.

The 4 billion Tsoulan project was introduced in 2009 by Settat Republic Council Representative Austin Torinski. Does that name sound familiar? The project was rejected by then-president Cole Carson. But after Torinski was elected president of Norcria in 2012, his first move was an executive order allowing companies, such as Tozako and Norcroil to buy out land in both provinces for the drilling stations. In 2017, he allowed construction to begin. However, in 2018, incumbent president Soula-Pierre halted the construction for about 2 years until the Union Assembly passed a bill stating that the fields can be used in the construction, in a 560-416 vote. The President vetoed the bill, but the Assembly overruled her veto, allowing the construction to continue. Eventually, the President signed this executive order, effectively ending the construction of the oil fields.

Several Tozako executives condemned her decision, with CEO Akira Romanov posting on Weiqua, claiming that “The last thing our nation needs is 1,500 jobs lost and a 1.1 billion Tsoulan payroll ripped from the workers’ pockets. It is very clear that Mrs. Soula-Pierre does not understand the severity of this situation, and is simply going off of what these brainwashed radical environmentalists are telling her.” Romanov’s post was heavily criticized by Council Representatives on both sides of the Assembly, and residents of surrounding communities in Adrar and Zouèrat. The President responded to Romanov’s post, claiming that “Norcria’s economy is no longer petroleum-dominated. These oil fields were completely useless and does not help in our mission to reduce the carbon footprint. It would only turn us into the problem, not the solution.

Pamian investigations conclude rigging of presidential electoral votes to be true. This comes after a whistleblower from the Olenyoksky Oblast stating that Derek Sakitai paid off Union Council Representatives to confirm his victory in the 2020 Presidential Election. He has since been impeached and will be replaced by Maria Yakosaski.

The Union of Pamia has restructured the districting system for its unicameral legislative assembly, the Union Council. The new proposal includes 475 districts, each electing 1 representative, based off of population. The nation currently has a population of 11,564,313. This gives a seat to every district that comprises of approximately 24,346 people.

Yet another copyright lawsuit has been filed against Norcrian media giant Wow! Entertainment. Casablanca-based Northport-Settat Entertainment Group (NSEG) filed a Corporate-Action lawsuit, stating that Wow! Entertainment used some of the music produced by NSEG in its newest film, “The Voyage to Noumea”. The song “Whatever I Want” by Andeep Karde was also used as the film’s main theme, despite claims by both Karde and NSEG that Wow! Entertainment did not contact Karde or NSEG requesting permission for use of her song in the film. The case trial will be held in the Grand Court building in Laayoune, Samara Republic on 18 February.

- - - George House - 7pm - Monday 15th February - - -

President White was sat on George House's famous balcony, overlooking the River Thames. He had a glass of whisky in his hand, and was watching the glorious sunset. It was a little chilly, but the President had wrapped up nice and warm. Cuddled up beside him nestled their First Families Dog - a small Yorkshire Terrier named Toby. As the President sat there, he watched the city life. People milling in the streets, cycling, walking or driving to wherever they were going.

All of a sudden, a knock came at the balcony door. "Yes", the President said - expecting the intrusion to be his wife, Holly. But it wasn't. The President's Press secretary, Theodore Roostervelt, walked in - he looked in a state of rage - and said "Sir. We have an issue".

"Go on."

Roostervelt handed the President a newspaper with the headline; "President White's 'Green Economy' plan embarrassed as Secretary Environmental Protection authorises Fracking". As President White read the headline, he looked shocked

- - - Polaris Times - 16th January 2021 - The "Scott Affair" turns Polaris upside-down - - -

Tuesday, January 16th, 2021. Sophie Wilter - Chief Political Correspondent for the Polaris Times.

As he was relieved from duty late last night, Scott Morfey, the former Secretary for Environmental Protection, lit the fuse on a timebomb that lay under both the executive and the legislative branches of goverment. Little did the former Secretary know that the fuse on this bomb would last approximately half-an-hour.

"The President, Liberal, Labour and National Congressional Caucuses, along with several members of the cabinet, including Mark Hodsoll, the Secretary of Education, have all knowingly solicited funds from secret international and national donors, subverting strict electoral laws that are aimed at ensuring the integrity of Mathornian elections."

That was the claim levied against the majority of politicians in Polaris, by the former Secretary of Education. In this accusation, Scott Morfey directly incriminates the President, his Presidential Campaign, and high-ranking Liberal members, in a scandal of unthinkable magnitude. Despite not providing evidence, the former Secretary of Education held a press conference during primetime this morning. With lawyers flanking him, Mr. Morfey confidently stated "I have more than sufficient evidence, and will release it in due course. In addition, I have duly filed a lawsuit against 166 members of the Liberal, Labour and National Parties - both at a Federal and Provincial level. We believe that these lawsuits will root out corruption that is rife within the top ranks of government".

This morning, in solidarity with Mr. Morfey, 4 members of White's Cabinet have tendered their resignations, along with 47 of the adminstration's staff. The President has not commented on these accusations, and will hold a press conference tomorrow. The Conservative Party, who's leader is currently out of town on a week's holiday, labeled the accusations "Shameful, if proven true, undoubtedly an impeachable offence".

Duncan Melia, the Liberal Speaker of the House of Representatives, who has not been implicated in the scandal, has this morning fired 17 members of his top staff in Congress, and called the accusations, still yet to be proven, "Unbelievable and unprecedented. If proven true, Congress will have to take resolute and decisive action, against both the executive, and those in Congress who were complicit in the scandal."

Who knows what will happen next. Our first indication will be with President White's press conference tomorrow, and the result of a judicial case filed by Mr. Morfey. In the case of Morfey vs. Sharp, a low-level court's ruling will potentially reverberate across not only the city, but the nation. A judge will have full access to the evidence provide by Mr. Morfey, and will rule if the evidence presented warrants a criminal offence.

- - - The Polaris Journal - Conservative ruling by Polaris court as Polaris awakes to a political bombshell - - -

This morning, a Polaris county court provided a conservative court judgement in the case of Morfey vs. Sharp. Essentially the judge ruled that the evidence provided, whilst certainly impactful, only presented circumstantial evidence. The evidence presented consisted of a number of shady bank transactions originating from, mainly, The hudson archipelago. These transactions, consisting of low-level sums of money (in the 000's), entered several hundred Mathornian banks who's owners could not be ascertained. Morfey's lawyers linked the total money paid into these accounts to the Liberal, Labour and National Parties political expenses, which combined, was just enough to make up a campaign deficit. The exact amount of money in these transactions was enough to cover these campaign deficits.

In other developments on Capitol Hill, the Speaker of the House, Duncan Melia, announced that an independent Congressional investigation will be set up, tasked with investigating members of Congress who may have been complicit in any corrupt dealings. This has been supported by Chloe Sharp, the leader of the Liberals in the Senate and the President pro tempore of the Senate, along with Conservative and Republican leadership. The Labour Party is yet to comment on the accusations. In addition, the President is yet to speak on the matter, but the president's office have issued a statement "denying all accusations of rife corruption within the executive branch."

Notably absent from the political fray is the current Vice-President Adam Carver, and the leader of the Conservative Party, Lewis Wood. Mr. Carver has not been implicated in the scandal, yet, his office issued the following statement "The facts of the matter must come to light, an independent, impartial, inquiry must be set up to ensure full transparency." Mr. Wood, on the other hand, is on holiday with his family in Scotland, and his office referred the Polaris Journal to the joint-statement issued by the Conservative leadership in Congress.

A man was sat on a leather chair in a coffee shop. He was sat back in the chair, and was slowly working his way through a teapot full with tea. A TV was mounted on the wall on the opposite side of the coffee shop, and was running the news. It was abuzz with the political scandal currently engulfing the capital. The President, along with seemingly half of Congress, were embroiled in the innocently named "Scott Affair". The man, a journalist from Al qahirah, had been in Mathorn for nearly two weeks now. He was about to land the biggest story of his professional career.

The man, who's name was Ahmad Al-Tounsi, was nervous. His contact was late. In order to stave off these nerves, Tounsi was working on an article for his website surrounding campaign finance laws across the globe. He was about half way through this article, and had hit a road block - writer's block. He was growing frustrated, and could feel a migraine slowly developing.

Thankfully, his contact arrived, and sat down opposite. The men had agreed not to use their real names to provide an added layer of security for their meeting.

"Did you receive my gift".

"I did. The contents were interesting to say the least".

"I know. I had to pull several favours to get that, you know".

"Yes, that seems obvious."

"Regarding your other concern, I was unable to ascertain that information."

Tounsi lent back in is chair and sighed. He could feel his migraine intensifying.

"Well... **** me. I cannot publish without proof on both fronts".

"I am sorry. I will contact you if I can get anything else for you".

"Hey, I really do appreciate it."

With that the contact picked up his jacket, and left. "Well... there goes my story", Tounsi thought. His contact, FIB Special Agent Ben Nelson, had failed him. He did not have substantial proof to prove what would be an explosive political bombshell. Tounsi's migraine was now throbbing and was now quite painful. As he packed up his laptop, and began walking out of the small coffee shop, Tounsi failed to notice an attractive young woman working discreetly near to where his meeting had just taken place.

The Women, like Tounsi, was a journalist. Unlike Tounsi, she was a journalist who had a network contacts within the Mathornian political establishment. As Tounsi walked home, she quite rightly believed that this would not be the last time the two would meet.

- - - Edinburgh Castle, Scotland - Saturday Morning - - -

Lewis Wood pulled his car out of the campsite. His wife and children were exited - they were going to be visiting Edinburgh Castle. It was their last full day in Scotland. Lewis Wood has thoroughly enjoyed his holiday, he had relaxed and had some quality family time with his children and with Phoebe - his wife. After the quick drive into Edinburgh and spending an age finding a parking space, he immediately noticed something was not right. As he payed the visiting fee and proceeded through the turnstiles that marked the entry to the castle, he noticed a perfectly normal car parked in a parking space near the entrance. Wood quickly rubbed these thoughts from his head; "It can't be - anyway I am on holiday and no one knows where I am", he mused in hid mind.

As noon approached, Wood had totally forgotten about the car, and was distracted by the castle and his family. It may have been a cold winters day, but the weather was fine and the views from the castle's battlements were amazing. At lunch, the family of four sat down in the castle's visitor café, and ate some toasties for lunch. On his way to sit down after ordering their food, his eyes caught the eyes of a total stranger. Then, all of a sudden he connected the dots. The stranger was a man whom Mr. Wood knew well, which is why he recognized the car outside in the parking space. "Excuse me, I need to go to the loo." With that, Lewis got up out of his chair and walked towards the café's exit - it looked like he was going to the toilets, which were located on the other side of the castle. The man who he had locked eyes with discreetly got up.

Wood waited for the man outside in the Castle's courtyard. "Josh?", he asked as the man rounded a corner.

"Lewis. What a coincidence to bump into you all the way up here!"

It was a lie, and both men knew it. "Why have you come here?", Wood asked.

The man replied; "My Brother wishes to speak with you urgently. There's a ****storm unfolding in Polaris."

"I am on holiday, I can not abandon my family", Wood firmly stated before looking around at the castle's grandeur.

"We are aware of that fact, Mr. Wood. We do not wish to disturb you." Lewis was about to turn around and walk back into the café, however, the man reached into his jacket's pocket, pulled out a note, and handed it over to. The note read - "Meet me at 5pm, Monday evening. The tunnel. Don't be followed - A.C.".

Lewis looked up at the man in bewilderment. "What's going on?".

"I don't wish to disturb your holiday, sir. But when you get back to Polaris, your going to have a hell of a time". With that, the man walked off.

Lewis watched him walk away, through the castle's turnstiles and watched as his car pulled out of the parking lot. "Why had the Vice-President sent his brother all the way up to Scotland? More importantly, why did Adam Carver want to meet discreetly with me?", Lewis thought. These thoughts would dominate the Conservative leader for the remainder of his two-days in Scotland.

Aboard Mathornian Airways Flight 487
Polaris to Pempotowwuthut-Muhhecanneuw

AHMAD AL-TOUNSI: (grumbling under his breath) Flying economy class is bad enough, but being stuck in a middle seat for 6 hours? in a normal voice( Excuse me ma'am? Is this Row 37? I'm in 37B and I need to get in to the middle seat.

WOMAN: Oh, sure; I'll stand up and let you in. What's a tall guy like you doing in a middle seat?

TOUNSI: This is a last-minute booking; my newspaper won't spring for business class - declining circulation, you know, the internet, free content, "fake news" and all that. And this is a full flight, so it's the only seat I could get. Who's that kid in the window seat?

WOMAN: The kid? I dunno; I think she's what they call an "unaccompanied minor" - the flight crew escorted her in.

TOUNSI: (lets out a groan, and mutters again under his breath). Economy class, middle seat, six and a half hours, nothing but jetlag to look forward to; and a kid sitting next to me. Gonna probably be kicking the seat all night.

WOMAN: So, you said you work for a newspaper?

TOUNSI: Yeah, I work for Al Ahram; the name is Ahmad Al Tounsi.

WOMAN: Fancy that. I'm with the Polaris Evening Star. My name is Linden Avery. Are you headed to P-M on a story?

TOUNSI: Pleased to meet you, Ms. Avery. Yeah, I'm going there on a story. What about you? Vacation?

AVERY: You can call me Linden. I'm headed there on a story, too. What a coincidence - and seated together too.

TOUNSI: Haven't I seen you somewhere before? You look familiar.

AVERY: Do you say that to all the girls? Or just the ones you are stuck on an intercontinental flight with? I'd expect a better line from a famous international journalist.

TOUNSI: Who said anything about famous?

AVERY: I've read your work. You have quite a good reputation. And if you're headed to P-M on a last minute ticket, it must be something big. Does it have anything to do with the guy you were meeting over in the coffee shop over at Bedford Centre yesterday?

TOUNSI: How the hell did you know about that?

AVERY: I was sitting at the next table. I didn't think you noticed me.

TOUNSI: Life is full of strange coincidences.

AVERY: I'll say. Looks like we're going to have a lot to talk about. I don't know if a six hour flight is going to be long enough.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Cabin crew, seats for takeoff please.

TOUNSI: Well, maybe this flight won't be so bad after all. The kid over there isn't going to let me sleep anyway, so there are worse fates than talking to a pretty young woman for a few hours.

AVERY: (blushing) Hey, now! Mind your manners!

TOUNSI: My apologies; no disrespect intended.

AVERY: No offense taken, but I think you're going find what I have to tell you more interesting than the way I look. (reaches into her carry-on bag). Here, take a look at this . . .

- - - The Polaris Tribune - President White breaks silence on the "Scott Affair" - - -

This morning, President White broke his silence on the damming accusations levelled towards his administration in the "Scott Affair". The President, who has been hold in in George House pondering his next move, held a press conference late last night, where he lambasted; "False and egregious allegations against him" , stating that "In due course, my administration, and the Liberal Party's name will be acquitted in a court of law."

When asked about whether he has phoned House Speaker, Duncan Melia, the President declined to answer. Instead, he issued a warning: "Should Congress try and rush and impeach this administration, based upon nothing but flimsy facts and fake news, we will fight them all the way."

The Speaker's Office, in reply, in reply issued a strongly worded statement; "The Speaker of the House was dismayed at the President's refusal to let the facts come forth in an open and transparent manner. It is only in that way where the Administration has a way to clear their names legitimately."

Meanwhile, the Liberal President pro tempore of the Senate, and critical Senate powerbroker, Chole Sharp, commented briefly in support of her colleague : "The leadership of the House of Representatives will be opening an impartial investigation into these accusations, and if the facts bear witness against the President's claims, impeachment must be considered. I want to re-assure the Speaker of the House that his team will have the full support of the Mathornian Senate. The truth must come out."

The President is planning on meeting with Liberal Congressional leadership tomorrow, in what could be an explosive encounter. As Polaris prepares for the arrival of the Conservative leader back from his week long holiday, investigatory proceedings have begun to gather pace. Whispers of impeachment have begun to circulate.

- - - Embattled President White faces formal impeachment charges - - -

- - - Polaris, Friday 26 February, 2021 - - -

Today, against internal liberal opposition, the Speaker of the House Duncan Melia, filed four articles of impeachment against President White. The four impeachment charges accuse President White of Bribery, Electoral Subversion, Obstruction of Congress and Abuse of Office. As the Liberal speaker of the house signed a standing order to introduce the articles, he was flanked by Chole Sharp, the Liberal President pro tempore of the Senate, the Conservative leader and Senator, Lewis Wood, and the leaders of the Green, Labour, National and Republican Parties' Congressional Caucuses.

Melia faces an internal backlash within the Liberal House caucus, and faces a no-confidence vote on Monday. As the Liberal House membership decides Melia's future, the House of Representatives will be debating the merits of the impeachment Articles, with a series votes expected at around 10pm local time. It is, as of Friday evening, yet unclear which Articles of Impeachment will have the numbers to pass, although the Article 4, regarding Abuse of Office, already looks certain to pass.
