Zaravai The First To Join TFMSF!

After the Western Trade Federation recently founded a security force known as the Trade Federation Maritime Security Force, Zaravai has become the first to invest in it. The ZRN, under authority of King Staugaitis, has entrusted two Kardžuvė class destroyers with full crew to protect WTF trade routes. The ZDF has also officially assigned 77 infantrymen to the force, a symbolic number in Zaravai. Shortly after, many fellow member states followed suit.

We apologize. As of this time, we are struggling to obtain information on the war scene as reporter mortality rates are exceptionally high. Interviews with high rank officials have also met little success but we are able to accurately report at least four thousand total casualties, dead and wounded, in Azureden. More information will follow soon.

It had been more than a week since Andrius fought at Directus Central Bank. Still, the eyes of the man he had killed were burned into his retinas. It took all his willpower to convince himself to stop thinking about it.

Of course, the adrenaline of battle did a fantastic job of taking his mind off the past. Day after day, the city seemed to throw everything at them. Every day, Andrius had to witness another friend lose their life. Every day, Andrius wondered if he would be next.

Domantas Soulis had trained with Andrius and Viktoras, and had saved them from Zukas’ harsh punishments on several occasions. He was a bright young man, only joining the ZDF to get qualifications to become an astronaut. Andrius remembered his long and passionate rants about the cosmic phenomena he was so enthralled by. Andrius remembered watching him be reduced to a gorey mess by an artillery strike.

Some of his comrades had just about lost their minds. Private Wurkis was the easiest to remember. Previously a fraternity brother and an admirably tough man, he was now deemed unfit for action as he began screaming incoherently at the top of his lungs on the morning of the 21st.

Alexis had done a remarkable job of showing little weakness in the midst of chaos, but Andrius had heard her cry herself to sleep every night. Perhaps that was what let her stay sane during the hours when it mattered.

Viktoras had miraculously remained confident. He was at this point the soul of the battalion, as even Zukas himself had become uncharacteristically quiet. He would tell jokes and stories almost every night to lift the mood, and during the day he remained upbeat. If it wasn’t for him, Andrius thought, the whole battalion would’ve been a memory by now.

Private First Class Petrauskas himself was far more noticeably different with his recent promotion. Previously a cautiously optimistic, if timid, young man, joining the military for college funds, Andrius had become a shadow of his former self. Most days, he said not a word more than what was asked of him, and rarely showed even a hint of emotion. Where there used to be visible fear at the sound of artillery, there was now little more than a flinch and, if he had to, a duck for cover.

Despite all this, however, Andrius was determined to retain his sanity. He found himself humming to tunes from his childhood to drown out the endless cacophony of gunfire, screaming and artillery. He found himself daydreaming to blind himself to the horrors that were around every corner.

Andrius had begun to wonder just how little humanity he had left.

Tombstone battalion had continued it’s constant struggle for survival every waking hour of the day. On this particular day, the rain was pouring- hard. Andrius and the rest of the battalion cared little.

Their destination today was an old apartment complex, Bluesky Home. Previously, it had housed dozens of low-lying residents. Now, however, it was occupied by a less peaceful force. Zukas was given the task to take out a Coalition force resting point there, as Paslin intel believed the complex was being used to house soldiers not actively engaged.

Andrius, as usual, was humming a familiar tune. It seemed there was another lifeless body around every corner, but by now Tombstone had gotten used to it, alongside the wretched smell.

“Alright lads, we’re getting close. I expect total silence.”

Andrius nodded at Zukas and stopped humming. He instead began distracting himself with the pitter-patter of rain on his helmet.

The group quietly marched through the ruins, Zukas in front and a few medical volunteers in the back. This slow tread went on for around twenty minutes before they reached their destination.

The building, still relatively intact, had half a dozen men on guard outside. They appeared to be quite occupied with sitting around the entrance, whispering stories. Whatever they were talking about, it was apparently quite funny. One of the soldiers was left out, and seemed to have the duty of watching for hostiles. He looked quite tired, and seemed to be interested in their conversation.

Zukas put his hand next to his head, palm outwards, the signal to wait. After around a minute, the sentry turned his head to talk to a friend. Zukas balled his hand into a fist, and gunfire lit up the night.

Within a split second, six men were riddled with holes. They were dead before they hit the ground.

“Staugaitis, get that door open ASAP.”

“Yes, sir!”

Viktoras hurried forwards and planted an explosive charge on the door. He rushed back and pressed a button, and the entire front of the building was blown wide open. Andrius and a few others immediately threw grenades in, and after hearing the explosions they ran in.

Andrius was greeted by an astonishing amount of carnage. Corpses and severed body parts littered the floor, along with a sickening amount of blood. The remaining survivors were in a state of shock, or were lying wounded on the floor, crying for their mothers.

Tombstone shot any of those still standing within moments and rushed up the stairs as fast as their legs could carry them. A hallway with apartments on either side stretched before them, and the sounds of confused panic and orders being given could be heard from behind each door. Soldiers took point on the sides of the different doors.

On Zukas’ signal, the men barged into the apartments, guns blazing.

Andrius ran to the apartment with the letter seven on it alongside Corporal Rubis, one of the older members of Tombstone. Andrius kicked the door open and they rushed in. Recently awoken coalition soldiers scrambled for their weapons as they were gunned down without hesitation- one young soldier, who had his pistol under his pillow, managed to shoot Rubis square in the stomach. He doubled over with a scream for a medic.

Andrius’ mind went blank once more in the heat of the moment. He fired full auto at everything he saw moving, and the young soldier who shot Rubis was killed before he could shoot Petrauskas too. It wasn’t until it was too late that Andrius realized his mistake.

A young man, who didn’t look old enough to be out of high school, saw his chance and charged Andrius with a knife. Andrius immediately turned his rifle at him and pulled the trigger.

Click.

Sh*t.

Andrius hurriedly dropped his rifle and reached for his pistol, but the man struck it from his hands and thrust his knife at his heart. Andrius grabbed his hands, and both toppled to the ground as he struggled for his life. The young man looked as though he had seen battle, despite his age, with scars and bruises littering his teenager face. The young man pushed the knife closer towards his chest. He muttered something at Andrius that sounded to him like... an apology. Andrius’ life flashed before his eyes, and he prepared for the worst.

BANG!

The knife dropped from his small hands and harmlessly hit his uniform. Blood splattered across Andrius’ face. The life faded from the young boy’s eyes as he lost all strength.

Andrius shrieked and pushed the corpse off of him in disgust. He looked for whoever was his savior. Alexis stood beside him with Andrius’ pistol in her hands and a look of horror on her face.

“Lexi? W-What are you doing here?”

“I heard Rubis…the screaming...”

Her voice was as shaky as her hands.

He pushed himself to his feet and looked at Rubis, who was still weakly clutching his abdomen. Alexis shook her head and dropped his pistol before rushing to dress his wound, tears quickly forming in her eyes.

Andrius stumbled out of the room and saw the rest of the battalion finishing their own rooms. A large crowd of surrendered Coalition soldiers with terrified looks in their eyes was forming.

“Clear!”

Three soldiers walked out of the last room on the level. Zukas immediately ordered around half the men to check the next floor.

Viktoras, who was among the first to clear their room, saw Andrius’ sorry appearance and walked to him.

“The hell happened to you?”

“...”

Andrius stared at his friend, still shaking from his ordeal. He touched his face and looked at the blood on his hand.

“I cleared my room.”

Viktoras looked behind him and saw Rubis being treated by Alexis. She was trying to calm him down with a shaky voice on the edge of sobbing.

“Oh…”

Viktoras’ face turned sour. He looked for comforting words, but could find none.

A moment later, the men sent up ran back down the stairs, looking relieved.

“Sir, The upper floors are just medical personnel and wounded men.”

Zukas let out a sigh.

“Good, good, now we’ve probably alerted every Coalition soldier in the city, so let’s move out. Quickly.”

As Rubis and several others were loaded onto a stretcher, the battalion rushed out of the building into the streets.

Just like that, their objective was complete. Tombstone once again disappeared into the night of the city.

Popular Constituent Assembly to hold Vote on Trade Deal with Neferheim

The first official meeting of the newly elected Constituent Assembly has now begun, with the initial goal of beginning a mutually prosperous trade deal with the struggling nation of Neferheim. Despite being discredited by opposition parties as supporting questionable regimes, the Centre Party has reassured the public that this deal would only be economic. The effective terms of the deal are as follows:
-Vescarian private firms will be allowed exclusive rights to mine in Neferheim iron mines.
-Vescarian steel companies will be allocated 20% of Neferheim's steel mills for privatized use.
-In return, Vescarium will sell finished products (such as cars), minerals, and machine parts back to Neferheim at a reduced cost.
A delegation has been sent to Neferheim to further discuss the agreement, though the Assembly still remains divided on whether or not to go through with it.

WTF Sanctions on Mesoamerica Lifted
As news are received of Mesoamerican finally abolishing slavery, the Secretary-General of WTF has announced that sanctions on Mesoamerica will be lifted as WTF's purpose for the sanctions no longer exists. The Secretary General has stated that he is 'grateful' that Mesoamerica is finally following basic human rights.

The Medovian Right-Wing is still up in arms after what they call a "stolen election" and held a massive protest in Medovia's capital, Gavarnik. The protesters claim that the new PM, Simon Pagasov, directed false information to be directed by armies of fake accounts, which made the difference in Pagasov's party's very narrow victory. The leader of the right-wing Medovian National Front and ex-PM, Hakob Beliśavar, addressed the crowd affirming that the party will work at every step to oppose this 'leftist PM' and that his party will be applying to the justice ministry to investigate claims of fraud by the Democratic Alliance party.

The protesters in the end sang the national anthem and marched from the Parliament Square to the offices of the ruling Democratic Alliance party. A Democratic Alliance spokesman called the protesters 'sore losers' and that the Medovian National Front would better serve Medovia being a constructive political force in Parliament rather than shouting slogans in the streets. Political experts expect the Democratic Alliance to pass a series of social welfare reforms in Parliament as well as reviewing the Education curriculum. One subject of interest is the History of the Medovian Church which is taught as a separate subject. There are rumors that the subject may be removed, but such a move may risk the ire of moderates that are helping keep the centre-left coalition intact.

A few isolated incidents between protesters and police did take place in the aftermath of the event.

3 JULY 2020

The Fylka was abuzz with discussion. While intended to become a more democratic body with the advent of elections in October, as of now it was a collection of members of the clergy all appointed by the Nala to help support his reforms within the nation. Today, the Fylka would see its first test to see if it could effectively make decisions for the Divine State

The Guurissi, the original inhabitants of Neuewland before the Sivuk migration out of modern day Anderum, had declared independence against Neuewland for the tenth time in the nation's history. Normally, this wouldn't be of concern for Aleni, but these were special circumstances. After the offer to join the Union of Sivuk by the Nala, the Neuew Plutarchs had voted against joining the union, but with the potential to become involved if the member states supported the nation in their civil conflict. This had sparked debate in the Fylka, and the decision on how this conflict would be handled was the first topic the Nala would leave up to the Fylka, as a sort of test run.

The Fylka, since the debate had started, had split up into three factions.

There were some who advocated for full intervention in the war, to prove our friendship to Neuewland. The 21st century had already been a time of renewed relations between the normally hostile states, and had even seen the Neuew help the Alenians in various conflicts they had elected to become involved in. They argued that intervening in the war on the side of the Neuews would further cement that relationship, as well as strengthen the pan-Zeeite cause.

Others were hardline against the intervention. One of the major reasons that Mena Alen II thought the reforms were so vital was because the entrenched noble clergymen were the ones who pushed so hard for the war with Velutaria, which ended in a failure for the Alenians. Another war could very well turn public opinion against the Nala, which would give the Nobles an excuse to replace the current Nala with one of his many cousins, most of which were much more incompetent than him. This faction also argued that supporting Neuew interests was entirely against the best interests of Aleni, considering that the Neuewland has had rocky relations with nearly every other Zeeite nation. Interventing could jeopardize the stability of the Union, and bring crashing down what Mena so desperately wanted to work.

Finally, the moderates advocated for something different, which would create a test for another one of Mena Alen's many projects: The Union of Sivuk. Aleni would call a meeting between the leadership of Nerany, Whitmarche, and Paslin island to determine what path they would take. How the Plutarchs would interact with the Union could forever shape how it operated, so they argued that the best course of action would be to have the leaders of the Zeeite states come together to determine how the crisis in Neuewland would be handeled.

The debate didn't seem nearly finished by the end of the day, and so it would continue until...

5 JULY 2020

The Fylka had finally come to a decision. The moderates had won out.

Worrying about what would happen if large groups of moderates started siding with the "warmongers" as they called them, many of those supporting absolute pacifism sided with the moderates to increase the chances that there would be no intervention. In the end, the moderates won out, and the Nala had to schedule a meeting which would go down in history as deciding what role the Union of Sivuk would play in the affairs of the Sivuk Gulf Region outside of purely trade and general cooperation.

Nala Mena Alen decided to write a short, concise letter to the leaders of Paslin, Whitmarche, and Nerany.

Dearest leaders of the Zeeite people,
The crisis in Neuewland shall be our first challenge. We will meet in Lenina within two weeks time, on 19 June 2020, to discuss the issue.
Regards, Nala Mena Alen II of the Most Divine Nalacy of Aleni

Provincial Convention Votes in Favour of Almeyynia

Exactly one week ago the nation of Almeyynia voted to seek membership in the South Anterian Defense Alliance. Over the weekend a Congressional committee delivered its opinion on the matter to the Foxomexran legislature's upper house, and today the vote has come up with a definitive approval from 89% of the Provincial Convention. Staff members in the executive branch have reported that President Wilson Harrison is thrilled by the news, although he has yet to make any public comments. Foxomexran SADA representatives now eagerly await the decisions from other members of the alliance.

Provincial Convention Torn on Neferheim Sanctions

After the General Assembly voted in favour of enacting stricter sanctions on Neferheim last Saturday, the responsibility then fell upon the Provincial Convention to make their decision. The proposal, however, has been controversial. Critics of the expansive sanctions cite recent developments in Neferheim as evidence that the current sanctions in place are more than sufficient to encourage positive change in the country. Moderates who stand neutral on the sanctions argue that Neferheim's recent progress has occurred very recently, and more time is needed before any decision should be made regarding lifting or placing further sanctions.
10 of the 28 representatives in the P.C. have voted against the resolution, just enough to block the required two-thirds vote to enact the sanctions. The future of the bill remains unclear, however if any 1 of the 10 representatives who voted against the resolution change their minds the decision of the Provincial Convention will change. Currently, representatives in the General Assembly and the Provincial Convention are debating potential compromises to the deal, but some observers worry that this bill will enter a state of limbo and waste much of the legislature's time.

Fichmanistan, Neferheim, and Almeyynia

In a vote 145-5, the Parliament of Medovia overwhelmingly approved its neighbor Almeyynia's candidacy to join the SADA. The PM of Medovia, Simon Pagosov, before the vote remarked that Almeyynia is an important partner for Medovia and that it's admission into the SADA will strengthen security ties between two countries that share common geopolitical challenges. Pagosov expressed his desire that Almeyynia's candidacy would be quickly approved by all member-states of the SADA.

Neferheim Sanctions Revised

After failing to pass in the Provincial Convention by a single vote, the previous bill which had moved through the General Assembly has been revised. The former bill consisted of a flat tariff rate of 20% on all goods with the exceptions of steel and coal (which would have a rate of 35%), along with political sanctions on the royal family of King Sapria Holensburg and the majority of the members on the Neferheim Council. This has been changed with the tariff rates each being decreased by 5%, and the amount of Councilmembers affected by the sanctions being greatly decreased to just under half of the total council.

This bill is set to be voted on in the General Assembly tomorrow, and if successful it will be delivered to the Provincial Convention two days after.

Voting on Sacrofnian Ascension to SADA

Only two days ago the Provincial Convention passed a resolution to approve Almeyynia's request to join the South Anterian Defense Alliance, and just yesterday the country of Sacrofnia has filed their own request to join. A congressional committee has again been tasked with reviewing the request and will be submitting their findings to the Provincial Convention on Friday, 10 July 2020. The request has been met with great approval in the Foxomexran government already, with most representatives in the P.C. expecting a swift passing of the resolution.
