Conducting Oneself in War

Conducting Oneself in War

It is undeniable that war will be an ever present force, even at levels of advancement which allow us to travel between stars. Because of this state of war in the roleplay, there are certain guidelines that need to be be put in place to ensure stable and refined war. It is true that war can become an affair which determines the future of players, however, it is nonetheless a story. But before we can talk about the actual conduction of war in space, of fighting for control of the stars, we must first talk about what you need in order to be prepared for war.

Fleet Factbook

Ships are the primary source for military powers to exert themselves. He who controls the stars, controls the sector. Planets, our worlds of habitation which are the backbone of the nation, are only kept safe by the presence of starfleet's which prevent foreign powers from invading star systems and crippling any Empire. However a Fleet Factbook must be organized and approved before set loose on the world. A key thing to remember when making a fleet factbook is that all Empires start with their fleets fully developed and at maximum supply.

Fleet factbooks need to contain all designs used by your empire, with simple descriptions in place such as the ships class, role, specialty, pros and cons, etc. No ship is perfect in design, as filling into one role makes it lacking in another. Please include an image and a list of armament that is on your ship. Do remember your tech level when designing these, as well as any military technologies you have researched to improve your ships.

When you have completed your fleet factbook with all designs included, detailed in class, role, specialty, the pros and cons and so forth, submit your fleet factbook to the imperial government for review. Your factbook will then be looked over and either approved or denied based upon content. If you are struggling, don't be shy to ask questions. We are here to help you until you get the job done right. Until your fleet factbook is approved, it is not considered in use in the roleplay. Please get it done and approved before roleplaying.

Personnel Forces Factbook

Due to the nature of the Remnant Stars, much of the combat is focused on space combat. This however doesn't eliminate the existence of personnel forces such as space marines and ground forces. Personnel factbooks are much more in the hands of players and only require mild review to ensure there is nothing absurd present. There is no set guideline for personnel in a factbook, save for many a few images and details on what is used by your empire for space marine combat and ground combat. Do keep in mind that like the fleet factbook, it needs to be in your factbook to be considered canonical. Design wisely.

Military Technologies Factbook

Technologies in general are a very open affair. Once one has worked on enough advancements and has established themselves well enough, they move up the ladder. However Military Technology in particular is a major influence on your fleet and space combat.

Military Technologies are approved and denied through the standard technology process in the region, however they have critical impact on your fleets. Military Technologies are the improvements made to your military, the new weapons and quite possibly the new ships altogether (but within the class parameters). In order to observe and regulate this, as well as remain clear with what empire has what, Military Technologies are required to be listed in a factbook whenever developed; As well as preexisting military technologies as well. Do keep in mind your tech level at the start when designing this. A space empire who is early to the game may utilize advanced rail guns, while an older and more developed race may find more exotic weapons to use.

Military Technology factbooks must be submitted for review upon change.

War in Space

War is not a simple affair. Some will prefer war at range. Some will prefer war up close. Regardless of desire, all war is interlinked with space combat, the military movement of forces from one star to another. Because of this high presence in space, most combat and war itself will be undertaken solely in space rather than on ground. Space Warfare is regulated by the presence of officers, the magistrate and the Emperor himself. Acting as moderators, they will be watful to what is transpiring between conflicting forces.

Combat itself is a back and forth affair, undertaken by two or more parties attempting to outwit and out roleplay one another. When in combat, the ships in play, the technologies in play, the tactics in play and the environment in play are all factored into the roleplay itself. With these factors in mind, battle can be undertaken between two or more parties. Combat requires both parties to accept losses on their own part. You can't decide the outcome of your opponent in your own post, much rather you can siege them with varying firepower, and your opponent will have to come up with a way to reduce the damage inflicted or to deal with the fire. This back and forth exchange requires lots of time between players as ships move and dart around to outdo one another, but it also requires cooperation between the warring parties to cooperate and make the battle work. No battle is truly predetermined, meaning it is anyone's game and in the hand of whoever is the better roleplayer to conquer his or her foe.

If you see something is amiss in combat, do not be shy to call it out and ask for explanation or correction. The government will be the deciding factor in such affairs if players can't organize between each other though this is a situation which hopefully can be avoided.

Because of how strange space warfare can be to roleplay, take examples on how it plays out from some strategy games out there. For our space combat comparison, we recommend the Homeworld franchise. If you require or desire direct links to videos of Homeworld, simply contact the Emperor and he will provide. In addition, space combat training is an option. The Emperor is entitled to assist other players with learning space combat by providing a government controlled enemy, say space monsters, for you to contest with. But be warned. Losses taken during combat training (if any) are considered cannon.

War between Personnel

War between direct persons in ground, inside spaceships or on spaceships is another back and forth affair between players to use tactics and what hey have available to outdo their enemies. Combat between actual personnel forces is a much simpler and more familiar affair, and as such no combat training is provided for it. Do keep in mind your stats and what is listed in your factbooks when undertaking combat between soldiers. Like space warfare, personnel combat is also overseen and regulated by the government and peoples.
