Overview

The national flag of the Union of Covonant is the Green Golden Heraldry, informally known as the Union Flag.

The current design of the Green Golden Heraldry dates from the independence of the Union of Covonant. It consists of the green and yellow bi-colours to symbolize the wealth in land and the golden sun. The Heraldry of Saint Roberts (patron saint of Covonant), molded in gold and green, with three double headed eagles on the shield, the helmet of truth and the star of the Union in the centre.

The flag's standard height-to-length proportions are 1:2. The war flag variant used by the Covonantian Legionnaires modifies the proportions to 3:5.

Flying the flag

The flag of Covonant can be flown by any individual or organisation in the Union of Covonant and on the Island territory of Senoica on any day of their choice.

Half Mast

The Covonantian flag is flown from Government buildings at half-mast in the following situations:

  • From the announcement of the death of the President, Former Presidents, Prime Minister, Former Prime Ministers, when the Flag is flown at half mast from 11 am to sunset)

  • The day of the funeral of the President, Former Presidents, Prime Minister, and former Prime Ministers

  • The funeral of a foreign Head of State and or Government

The Prime Minister has full powers and privileges to declare other days when the Covonantian Flag is to fly at half-mast. Half-mast means the flag is flown two-thirds of the way up the flagpole with at least the height of the flag between the top of the flag and the top of the flagpole.

    Flag Etiquette

The Flag Code, which formalizes and unifies the traditional ways in which Covonantians give respect to the flag, also contains specific instructions on how the flag is not to be used. They are:

  • The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing. It is flown upside down only as a distress signal.

  • The flag should not be used as a drapery, or for covering a speakers desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general. Bunting of Green, Gold and White stripes is available for these purposes. The green stripe of the bunting should be on the top.

  • The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use.

  • Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.

  • The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations.

  • The flag should never have placed on it, or attached to it, any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind.

  • The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

  • When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms. To store the flag it should be folded neatly and ceremoniously.

  • The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.

  • When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.
