The Order was formally re-founded on 14th June 2017, but can trace its history to October 2016. In the 11th century, the Sovereign Military Hospitaller of the Knights of the Order of Saint Willibald of Gotesbourg of Saint Ignatius Peter Varius XII, known then as the "Knights Hospitaller", established a hospital in Gotesbourg to care for pilgrims. The work was recognised when in 1182 Pope Joachim II officially recognised the monastic community as a lay religious order. The Pope identified the Hospitaller Willibald Ritter von Hunfried as the Orders founder.
Nearly a dozen subject-state knights have been appointed members of this venerable order, and have agreed to serve the principles summarised in the motto Serve Verum serve truth. Members must demonstrate dedication to these principles and are admitted according to the discretion of the Grand Prince, Grand Master, and Grand Chancellor.
According to the Constitutional Charter and Chivalric Code, the members of the Order of SIPV XII are divided into three Classes. Members of the First Class are the Sovereign Ministers of the Order. Those of the Second Class are the Knights Hospitaller, appointed by the Grand Prince with the advice and consent of his ministers. These must eventually take the Promise, and commit themselves to the service of the Order. They are religious according to Canon Law, but are not obliged to live in community.
The Third Class are Companions of the Order, and are lay members who do not profess the Promise, but who live according to the principles of the Church and of the Order.

In the month of August, anno domini MMXVII the Order of SIPV XII was incorporated, by an act of free choice, into the Alliance of Absolute Monarchs, according to the terms of the August Treaty of Incorporation:
The concerned parties to this treaty are the Alliance of Absolute Monarchs and Sovereign Military Order of Saint Ignatius Peter Varius XII.
Article I
Section I
The Sovereign Military Order of Saint Ignatius Peter Varius XII is hereby incorporated into Alliance of Absolute Monarchs.
Section I
Both parties may withdraw from this accord by means of the process by which they entered it.
Article II
Section I
The Sovereign Military Order of Saint Ignatius Peter Varius XII will retain full legislative autonomy, and will, in its internal affairs, incorporate the laws of Alliance of Absolute Monarchs according to its own discretion.
Section II
The Sovereign Military Order of Saint Ignatius Peter Varius XII will delegate the conduct of its foreign relations to Alliance of Absolute Monarchs.
Section III
The Sovereign Military Order of Saint Ignatius Peter Varius XII will be the honour granting body of the Alliance of Absolute Monarchs.
Article III
Section I
The foregoing accord may be amended with the mutual consent of the competent bodies of the governments of the Alliance of Absolute Monarchs and Sovereign Military Order of Saint Ignatius Peter Varius XII.
Section II
The foregoing accord will have the full force of law in the jurisdictions of the Alliance of Absolute Monarchs and Sovereign Military Order of Saint Ignatius Peter Varius XII.
