Utopism - TannerFrankLand's Official Religion
Utopism
TannerFrankLand's Official Religion
Utopism is a young religion spawned amid the chaotic civil war from which TannerFrankLand was born. The religion worships a monotheistic God, and believes God sent the three great leaders of TannerFrankLand to bring Utopia. The holy book of Utopism is known as the Book of Utopia, the text's origins are unknown but from it all Utopists take their beliefs.
Origins
As described in the History of TannerFrankLand when Abelinda took control of TannerFrankLand's predecessor nation, Nalt, the land was a Christian and deeply religious land. During her rule, Abelinda challenged the Church and after taking them on issue after issue, Abelinda weekend Christianity and caused a non-religious trend within Nalt. When her rule crumbled, one of the major reasons cited by the common people was the lack of morality during the time of her rule. During the civil war, citizens flocked back to church, many returned to the Christian church, however within the military especially a new church was formed, the Church of Utopism. The Church's viewed the leaders of the Revolution as agents of God, sent to bring Utopia to the world. As the Revolution waged on, supporters of the rebels flocked to the Church. It is unclear if any of the three leaders of the Revolution were involved in the Church at the early stages, there is no evidence any of them acknowledged the church until after the Revolution.
Church of Utopism Formalized
Following the victory in the civil war, when Corvis, Franklin, and Corvis the Younger, turned their focus to rebuilding the nation, Utopism was made the official religion of TannerFrankLand. The head of the Church, titled the Holy Leader was chosen out of the loyal commanders of the army, Herman Davis was chosen. Leader Davis was given the responsibility of organizing the Church and overseeing the construction of church buildings in TannerFrankLand. He also is in charge of deciding Church positions on issues, though because the state is seen as the bringer of Utopia it has a lot of say in Church matters.
The Church has boomed since becoming the official religion, all within TannerFrankLand reported being Utopists in the last census. Utopists attend a religious service every Monday, and most businesses close to allow employees to attend.
Beliefs and Values
• Nationalism: The Book of Utopia makes it clear that Nalt or TannerFrankLand was chosen by God to be the birthplace of Utopia because it was the strongest and most capable nation. As such, the followers of Utopism are extremely nationalistic, loving their nation and see the nation and the cause of Utopia as inseparable, and are willing to sacrifice anything for the cause.
• Peace: One fatal mistake that brought Nalt to the ground was Abelinda's use of the military to fight oppressive regimes afar. Herman Davis along with Ville Corvis interpreted this and descriptions of it in the Book of Utopism to indicate that TannerFrankLand should avoid war if it can. Though if attacked Utopists believe that the borders should be defended at any cost.
• Non-Believers: Non-Believers in Utopism are considered enemies of the ultimate mission. While it is not illegal to be a Non-Believer, Herman Davis has declared that Believers should "Give no aid to those who do not strive to reach our goal." Aid has been interpreted as employment, charity, shelter, food, or anything. As such, all people in TannerFrankLand claim to be Utopists or face unemployment with no aid or charity.
• Freedoms: The Book of Utopism condemns strongly Abelinda's allowance of speech against the government, speech against religion, of lifestyles such as homosexuality or transgenderism which are forbidden by God. Utopists are greatly opposed to allowing those and any other behaviour seen as 'deviant'.
• Rebirth: It is believed by Utopists that when a soul dies it is reborn. Souls who lived a pure life and supported the goals of Utopia are reborn with able bodies and minds as well as white skin, while those reborn with darker or somehow tainted skin or with disabilities are believed to have lived an immoral life or opposed the goal of Utopia. As such, whites, which make up a large majority of TannerFrankLand's population, are considered a higher class, while minorities are inferior. The two classes are not meant to mix.
• Government: The Government formed by the heroes of the Revolution is of course considered sacred as it works toward Utopia. The Government is expected to regulate the economy heavily to protect the people from economic crises like Abelinda allowed and also to protect the environment God gave TannerFrankLand. It is also expected to monitor and crack down on any opposition or deviant behaviour to prevent any person from interfering with the pursuit of the ultimate goal of Utopia.
