Picairn Wins Historically Close Election by Kaschovia
22 September 2024

After the option to reopen nominations was chosen by a vast majority of voters in the general election, where Blue Wolf II ran alone following the withdrawal of Comfed, the Re-Opened September 2024 Delegate Election has concluded: Picairn is the new Delegate-Elect of The North Pacific, beating Pallaith by three votes (47-44) in the second round of voting. The other candidates, Blue Wolf II and Dreadton, both got three votes respectively and were eliminated in the first round. The race was forecast as a clear win for Pallaith in pre-election polling, especially after previous frontrunner Comfed abruptly withdrew their candidacy, but proceedings were a lot more competitive than many initially thought they would be.

The re-opened election for Delegate closed after the general election began, so our new Vice Delegate and Speaker have already been in their roles for over a week now. In the Vice Delegate election, Sil Dorsett won with 86.96% of the vote (60/69), beating Neptunian Military Administration who received 13.04% of the vote (9/69). In the Speaker election, Arawi won with 85.94% of the vote (55/64), beating Gridland Empire who received 14.06% of the vote (9/64).

The new Delegate wasted no time putting up an opening address and appointing the cabinet for the term ahead, doing so just half an hour after the results had been posted by the Election Commission. Here’s how the fresh administration looks:

Minister of Defense: Dotopolis
Minister of Foreign Affairs: Chipoli
Minister of World Assembly Affairs: Vapid
Minister of Culture: Halsoni
Minister of Communications: Kaschovia
Minister of Home Affairs: United States of Dictators

Lead Gameside Advocate: Gridland Empire
Advisors: Pallaith, Dreadton, and 9003
Cards Guildmaster: Dreadton

When asked for a statement on how it feels to have won the election and what Picairn believes their delegacy will bring to the North, this is what the Northern Notes was told:

“It has been an incredible election. Words cannot adequately describe the rollercoaster of emotions I am going through right now, though I remain grateful to everyone who voted for me and helped me pull off an unexpected victory against an experienced opponent. Going forward, my priorities as Delegate are to address the activity and manpower issues plaguing our government and army, and implement necessary reforms to make TNP a stronger and better region.”

There is a palpable excitement in the air in these first few days after the election. Most of the newly-appointed ministers have already posted opening remarks and roll calls, spurring activity in their own areas as the executive looks to start the term off with a lot of momentum. Of course, the question is whether or not that energy can be maintained over the next few weeks. There are still significant challenges in the coming months as the region sets its course into the future, but with the new Delegate at the helm, there is definitely a sense that those challenges can be overcome.
