Salix keralae
Salix keralae (Keralite Willow; Malayalam:കഞ്ഞിരം) is a species of willow native to South Kerala, particularly in Southern South Kerala region in the state of Chelapattanam. The tree a is close relative of the weeping willow (Salix babylonica).Description
Salix keralae is a large-sized tree. On average, it grows up to 30-35 metres tall. It reaches maturity at 45 years, and has a lifespan, between 85 - 255 years. The leaves are alternately green and chartreuse during the spring and summer. But turn magenta and pink due to anthocyanins during the autumn and mid-winter periods. This is caused by the breakdown of chlorophyll due to the decrease of sunlight exposure, which therefore reveals the stunning and exquisite colours.
