Conch Kingdom 9/19 Minister of Domestic Affairs Debate

All timestamps of messages are in PST as of 9/19/21. Any questions about the candidates can be directed to the candidates themselves. Any questions about the debate format or setup can be directed to me or Socialist Platypus.

Supero Omnia — 10:33 AM
Hello everyone! Welcome to the Minister of Domestic Affairs debate for the October Elections!

Our candidates that will be debating today are Nova Briton, Charville, and Rex Omnia. Candidates, if you'd like to introduce yourselves:

Rex omnia — 10:38 AM
My full title is the following : The Tyrannosaurus Rex of Rex Omnia and am running for Minister of Domestic Affairs to make sure with the current rise in numbers for Conch Kingdom that we maintain and increase the number of residents with culture and retention events.

Brief introduction : With a fairly good amount of experience in the culture field (former MoDA), an active RPer and have spent a large period of time in Conk Kingdom. Another thing to note is that I have a faster typing speed than the other candidates.

Nova Briton — 10:41 AM
Hey there, I'm Nova Briton, currently the CK Surveyor. My goal here is just to learn more about how the elections work and get experience for the future, and my fellow candidate's remark on my typing speed is unbased and he should feel bad.

Charville — 10:46 AM
Hello, I am Charville, also known as Char. I have resided and remained active in the Kingdom of the Conch for more than a year (except for a bit when I disappeared). During my stay here I have served a term as PM last year, and a term and a bit as MoFA this spring. NationStates is the only browser game I have invested a large amount of time into, because of the amazing communities that are formed, particularly the one here in CK. I am running for MoDA this election, to promote activity and engagement in the region, something CK needs with the increase in population in the last few weeks.

It is important to note one the AA’s values is quality, not typing speed 😠 (in all seriousness apologies for being slow)

Socialist Platypus — 10:46 AM
Thank you for those introduction, now that you have introduced yourselves, we may as well start with an important question. Why are you bri*ish?! Oh sorry wrong line my bad.
What are the main points of your campaigns?

Charville — 10:53 AM
The main focus of my campaign is to focus on retention - events to get our members involved and reports on current regional and RP affairs.

Another focus of my campaign is the RMB: with the 2nd drewpocalypse a higher proportion of our region are RMB dwellers. Question of the days are a good way to encourage activity and get to know more about our community, as well as promoting of the RP region.

Nova Briton — 10:55 AM
The main point of my campaign is (honestly) to just see how the election system works, and also to see what type of qualities citizens of CK find admirable in their leaders.

However, should I be elected, I would like to involve residents in things like polls and organising other events more, so that they can have the experience that they want to have in CK. I believe this will improve retention and activity on both the RMB and Discord.

Rex omnia — 10:56 AM
Minister of Domestic Affairs covers a lot of areas in Conch Kingdom ranging from recruitment to events and is unsurprisingly considered to me one of the most important positions in CK.

My main points in my campaigns cover mostly on the area of events. Events is the most important duty for me as an MoDA because events include both the participation from the RMB and discord, engaging all types of residents to take part in Conch Kingdom and set CK apart from other regions. Events such as the Olympics, Hunger Games are all important, however sometimes events get repetitive and so one of my main focus is to diversify events.

The Conch Times, QoTD and transparency reports will be one of few ways I will aim to increase RMB posts and maintain a form of communications with our residents as a whole.

My last focus will be on recruitment and retention. Conch Kingdom should not fall behind in numbers especially with the recent influx and the encouragement of new recruiters will be needed.

Supero Omnia — 10:57 AM
Alright, brief intermission to remind people watching that there will be a section for audience questions, if you'd like to ask anything be sure to DM Socialist Platypus or I your questions and we will submit them.

But for right now, candidates, do you plan to make any changes among the Junior Ministers under the MoDA and why?

Nova Briton — 11:00 AM
The only change that I plan to make is increasing the number of surveyors to 2, since (from experience) I know that even though it's straightforward it can be difficult to come up with engaging polls on a regular basis (and google isn't really good for it) so I'm hoping that having 2 surveyors would allow them to bounce ideas off of each other and make higher quality and more regular polls.

Charville — 11:03 AM
No. All our current junior ministers are trustworthy and do a great job, so I don’t see any need to change them.

Of course I will be open to suggestions from residents about potential additions/changes to junior ministers and the current holders of those positions.

actually scrap that, I will create a minister of tips and tricks

Rex omnia — 11:04 AM
I will not be firing/changing any RP Mods, Cartographer, Secretary of Recruitment or Surveyor unless I am given a reason as to why they are not performing their duty according to the constitution.

The idea of 2 surveyors has been brought back and at the time one surveyor was able to perform their duty effectively before they left the region unexpectedly. I will only appoint new positions if junior minister under my control specifically requests it.

Socialist Platypus — 11:05 AM
Now onto another aspect of the MoDA's duties, do you plan to change anything about roleplay?

Nova Briton — Yesterday at 11:09 AM
Currently, I wouldn't change anything about the roleplay. I trust the judgement of our RP moderators and I enjoy the state of ckrp as it is. If I had to change something though, it would be enforcing the tech rules more evenly so we don't have any 'special cases' that could make the roleplay feel unfair.

Charville — 11:12 AM
In terms of the actual structure of RP, no - CK RP is the most active it’s ever been so clearly something about it is working. My term would be about promoting RP even further: weekly RP summaries on our RMB to let our residents know the current happenings on Telrova and the continuing the use of the RP region.

Rex omnia — 11:13 AM
I will not be changing anything about CK RP but I will effectively be adding in new roleplay opportunities. I will want to open up the "Warzone continent" to act as a separate section from Telrova to increase roleplay activity and encourage RPers to broaden their range of skills. Collaborating with the RP mods and cartographer to make this possible with themes that change every few months.

I would also like to enforce putting dates on ic_newsfeed posts because it has a knock on effect on other RPers. I will work the the creator of the Conch Times to bring by RP reports to make sure the people on the RMB stay aware of the events taking place.

Supero Omnia — 11:14 AM
What do you view as the most important aspect of the MoDA position?

Nova Briton — 11:16 AM
Probably the most important aspect of the MoDA position, in my eyes, is making CK an enjoyable place to be. If members find CK dull or boring then they'll just leave, so it's important to have events and other things (Such as the rp) to keep members engaged and enjoying their time here so that they don't leave for other regions feeling like they gained nothing from being here.

Rex omnia — 11:19 AM
It would be the events. Easily one the most important duties to engage residents and make sure they are content with Conch Kingdom. Without events CK can't compete with other regions and convince people to stay which would be a shame with our recent population. Events build relations and communications among residents and in my opinion that is always welcome for the CK community to remain one of the chill regions.

Charville — 11:22 AM
The MoDA’s role to encourage recruitment and retention efforts - regional events are very fun for people getting involved in it, and RP unleashes the creativity in our residents if they do it right. A good MoDA breathes life into a region by engaging residents and builds further the sense of community in CK, and is the person that builds a good reputation for the region, attracting new nations and retaining them.

Socialist Platypus — 11:23 AM
Are there some ideas that you would take over from the other candidates, were you elected?

Rex omnia — 11:28 AM
With the 2022 World Cup coming up in the upcoming months I think it would be a great idea to encourage an event related to football. Then one day, casually reading through Carville's campaign I see Conch Football League. I know right what a coincidence. It won't be a bad idea to make a tournament type of event relating to football with a prize at the end.

Nova Briton — 11:28 AM
There are a few ideas that I would definitely take on board if I were to be elected, such as the weekly rp summaries on the RMB and a QOTD, to name a few. I believe that these are solid ways for a MoDA to increase the level of engagement and activity in a region and that they are, ultimately, pretty simple to implement. Kos' worldbuilding questions that have certainly allowed people to explore their rp nations and learn more about each other are an example.

Charville — 11:29 AM
Probably government transparency reports from Rex - they were something Kos started and I continued during my PM term, so I’m glad to see Rex wants to continue that.

Supero Omnia — 11:29 AM
Alright, that's it for general questions, it's time to debut some questions from the audience. That being said, a CK citizen asks "How will you welcome and introduce newcomers into CK and the game itself?"

Rex omnia — 11:33 AM
The initial part would fall onto the crew in #retention of course. A great idea to introduce new nations into Nationstates will be with a simple dispatch. A dispatch labelling all the activities you can do in Conch Kingdom and Nationstates as a whole. No doubt the "Information Center" dispatch is quite useful but has become outdated and does not cover all aspects of CK.

Nova Briton — 11:35 AM
This is... quite a difficult question, honestly. I would probably create or have somebody create a FAQ dispatch that new members can be pointed to, as well as trying to get them involved in the regional rp via either discord or the rp region, since it's probably the most fun part of the game imo.

Charville — 11:38 AM
I will answer any questions they have about the game and the region, and link them to helpful dispatches when necessary - something I have noticed that people on the RMB are sometimes uninformed on how our government and RP works, so I will encourage reading our official dispatches on our WFE. Hopefully I will also get round to finishing my A-Z CK dictionary as well.

I would also offer them Conch Cookies™️ if I had access to them, but I don’t, so our new people will have to make do with off-brand ones instead.

Socialist Platypus — 11:38 AM
Next question from the public: "Do you wish for the current Delegate to take a step back from being involved in government your term?"

Nova Briton — 11:42 AM
I have no issue with our current delegate being involved in the CK government, in fact, I believe they have valuable experience and their input is very useful on government policy and such.

Rex omnia — 11:42 AM
No. A delegate is rightfully so a government position in CK and they should not be restrained from being involved in the government.

Article II Section 1 Subsection 2 states "The Delegate also holds all powers available to their office, and may not be denied these by any other official or law." I see no problem with the Delegate engaging in the government. Always welcome to have more opinions.

Charville — 11:46 AM
The Delegate is a very versatile position and so in my opinion it depends on how much the individual wants to get involved. The weekly endorsement campaigns are very helpful and I think our current Delegate is doing a good job, especially with helping creating and drafting new amendments.

Supero Omnia — 11:48 AM
Last question that I will be posing before SP takes it the rest of the way. An audience member asks "How do you plan to get more people to help with retention and recruiting?"

Nova Briton — 11:52 AM
For retention, I would like to create more engagment between events and polls and the general ck populace, as well as encouraging people to rp. For recruitment, I would probably make it more easily accessible (for example, not everybody who joins the region knows how to actually get to the recruitment channels, so I would likely add that to a FAQ dispatch)

Charville — 11:55 AM
Posting information about how to become a recruiter in round_table and the RMB is good way to get people to sign up, and recognising those who recruit for CK, through special mentions.

In terms of retention, encouraging people to make their own events, and being open to resident’s ideas on how to attract and engage more people.

Rex omnia — 11:57 AM
Advertising. Many people on the RMB do not even have an idea that their is a CK recruitment system that they can partake in. With the Order of Recruitment and helping CK growth should alone be an incentive to recruit.

However of course I will not be making a dispatch on how to use our recruitment method without the approval of August because it would be leaks :leeks: . Instead explaining them the process in the recruitment channels would more effective process.

Retention should be covered with an active RMB. Events and The Conch Times will recognise lesser-known members and may even boost their engagement in CK as a whole.

Socialist Platypus — 11:58 AM
A Concher asked "How do you plan to increase Conch Cookie™️ production?"

Nova Briton — 11:58 AM
Beg for the trademark so more than 1 person can make them

Rex omnia — 12:02 PM
I will use a special power that is commonly inherited in Senior Minister positions called "breathing down necks" to boost human capital and thus production.

It is also important to keep in mind we have scarce resources and to produce Conch Cookies™️ to the maximum limit we must obtain more land to conquer more resources. By boosting our population we will take over the filthy feeder region's to increase Conch Cookie™️ production.

Charville — 12:07 PM
Sell the Conch Cookie™️ brand to a megacorporation. The cookies shall be made at a large scale and there will be enough to go around.

I know some of you may be worried about how the secret ingredient will be kept secret, but I can assure you that the secret ingredients will be sent to the factory by trustworthy truck drivers. The delivery papers will be burnt a week after arrival and all employees will be fired if they even speak a word about the secret recipe.

Socialist Platypus — 12:08 PM
The audience is keeping at it: "Do you plan on running any inter-regional events with our embassies?"

Charville — 12:10 PM
I will work with the MoFA to see what regions would be up for an interregional event. If so then I will create one and hopefully the MoFA and diplomats will promote it in embassy regions.

Participating with embassy regions is a nice way to get to know different people and strengthen relations.

Nova Briton — 12:11 PM
If a region that we have an embassy with approaches us and asks if we want to do an inter-regional event then I would gladly accept, but I would likely only reach out to other AA regions without the approval and help of the MoFA.

Rex omnia — 12:11 PM
Yes working with the Minister of Foreign Affairs to connect more with our fellow AA regions and bring inter regional challenges such as a week of RPing with them to share ideas or writing contest, similar to what Forest does with other regions.

Socialist Platypus — 12:12 PM
Someone was wondering: "We've heard about your idea for retention and recruitment, but do you have any plan to try and integrate new people into Conch Kingdom?"

Nova Briton — 12:14 PM
Currently? No actual plan. I was going to just try and encourage them to interact with other members and get involved with the rp, to be honest.

Rex omnia — 12:16 PM
I believe the question is quite similar to the previous question but with all the following things that I mentioned above I would like to strongly encourage new people to join the discord if they are above 13 to boost our discord populace and get integrated more easily into the CK community then if you were on the RMB the whole time.

Socialist Platypus — 12:19 PM
Finally seeing the end of it, on of the last question: "Currently, what do you think of the relationship between the URA and CK?"

Nova Briton — 12:24 PM
I think that the URA is very beneficial for CK in terms of getting to know other regions and also WA voting. It's no secret that we make up nearly 20% of the voting power so as well as being more able to get the URA to vote as we want to, we also provide a pretty decent amount of power to the URA which is obviously beneficial to them.
URA wide events also encourage residents to interact more with residents from other regions and friendly competition is a good way to improve our foreign standing.

Rex omnia — 12:27 PM
In a Minister of Domestic Affairs point of view, I have no issues with the URA. I have never seen the URA be a threat to the CK's side of culture/RP and recruitment. The WA Delegate is the position that is mostly involved with the URA and I believe the Delegate maintains the relationship well.

CK also has a large voting bloc in the URA which is very beneficial for Conch Kingdom and our regions standing as a whole. I am well acquainted with the Director of Cultural Affairs in the URA which is a great connection to have if the URA ever wants to organise events involving Conch Kingdom.

Charville — 12:29 PM
I plan to integrate new people into the region by promoting RP, particularly the RP region. I will also try to encourage involvement in the CK government by informing people of procedures and how things work. Discord (age-dependent) is a platform necessary to win elections get the full CK experience so I will also promote that.

Although the URA is more of an FA topic I personally believe the URA is a cool alliance which frequently offers events and RP. Their recommendations (though sometimes I do not agree with them) are helpful for people that like the WA-side of NS gameplay.

Socialist Platypus — 12:30 PM
Now for the last, but not least question from the audience: "How do I raise population?"

Rex omnia — 12:30 PM

Nova Briton — 12:31 PM
Pay me £500 and I'll tell you

Charville — 12:33 PM
To raise your population you must pray to Jamr and hope for the best

Rex omnia — 12:33 PM
You increase population by voting for Rex Omnia. Trust me. Vote Rex Omnia and your population will start increasing at an exponential rate. Human Verification is not needed.

Socialist Platypus — 12:33 PM
First of all thank you you everyone for all the question you have asked to our candidates, now before closing that debate, are there any question you want to ask to the other candidates?

Charville — 12:36 PM
Less of a question, more of a statement - I offer my deepest condolences to NB and Rex for living in Manchester and London respectively.

Rex omnia — 12:37 PM
Ok Car Park 🤣😂

Socialist Platypus — 12:40 PM
In that case we have now arrived at the end of debate before leaving I want to thank everyone who participated.

Thank you Charville, Rex omnia, and Nova Briton for taking the time to partake in this debate and for answering every questions. Thank you Supero Omnia for organising that debate and offering me to co host and thank you to everyone who followed that debate and asked questions.

Now that the debate has officially ended we can finally let you go after keeping you hostage for so long.
