Format: Canoe slalom involves navigating a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. Touching any of the slalom gates results in a 2-second penalty for the paddler, while skipping any of the gates results in a 50-second penalty. The C-1 format refers to the use of one-man canoes.

Format: Cross-country mountain biking features a mass start and multiple laps of a predetermined course, with the first rider to complete the required laps winning gold. Format: Dressage is considered the most artistic of the equestrian sports and is used as the groundwork for all other disciplines. It tests the ability of horse and athlete to display both athletic prowess and supreme elegance by evaluating, for example, an athlete’s ability to make their horse move quickly from side to side, transition into a gallop or rapidly change direction, using subtle commands. All Dressage competitions take place in a rectangular arena measuring 20m x 60m.

Format: Team épée involve three members (and one reserve member) competing in a round-robin format with each athlete on each team fencing one another one at a time. This means a total of nine sets of three-minute rounds are held (each to a maximum of five points), with one team declared the winner after scoring a total of 45 points or having the highest score after nine rounds finish.

Scores for each shot were in increments of 1, divided into three sets with a maximum score of 200 between both shooters. Ties are broken by measuring the number of 'inner 10' bullseyes scored during the round.

Format: Triathlon is an endurance sport that combines swimming, road cycling and distance running, performed in that order. Events are conducted over a variety of distances but the 'Olympic distance' for men and women is a 1,500-metre swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run. The race is completed with no breaks from start to finish, with the first athlete to cross the finish line declared the winner.

Format: Olympic weightlifting consists of two competition lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. The snatch is where the weightlifter picks up the barbell and lifts it above their head in one singular motion. In the clean and jerk, the weightlifter is first required to pick up the barbell and bring it up to his or her chest (clean). The lifter must then pause and extend their arms and legs to lift it above the head (jerk) with a straight elbow and hold it there until a buzzer is sounded. Each weightlifter receives three attempts in each, with the combined total of the highest two successful lifts determining their overall result within a bodyweight category.
