Imperial War

The Imperial War, often abbreviated as IW or IW1, was an Isles-wide war that lasted from 1941 to 1948. It involved the vast majority of the countries in the Isles forming two opposing military alliances: the Free Powers and the Neo-Imperialists. In a total war directly involving more than TBD million personnel from most of the Isles countries, the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort; blurring the distinction between civilian and military resources. Aircraft played a major role in the conflict, enabling the strategic bombing of population centers. Imperial War was by far the deadliest conflict in Isles history, and resulted in TBD million fatalities, a majority being civilians. TBD million people died due to genocides, starvation, massacres and diseases. In the wake of the Neo-Imperialist defeat, Vendriothos as occupied and war crimes tribunals were conducted against Neo-Imperialist leaders.

Imperial War is generally considered to have begun on 16 March 1941 when Khas-Kirat Empire under Hem Arumhang (which was still fighting the Doman War started in 1938) invaded San Montagna with the help of The Tsunterlands. After partitioning San Montagna between themselves, the Khas-Kirat Empire and the Tsunter nation formed the Neo-Imperialist alliance with neighboring The United Partitions. From late 1941 to early 1943, the three nations launched a series of invasions against Torom (which was under the sphere of Segentova), Aizcona, Solaryia and Keverai. TBD campaigns

Dormill and Stiura, which aimed to dominate Gael, was at war with Roendavar by 1940 and joined the Neo-Imperialist alliance. Oseamar Empire (Razzgriz, Nhoor and Hyukai) joined the war on the side of the Free Powers and Neo-Imperialist advances in both Aizcona and the Canal Front were halted. Key setbacks in 1944 - such as the Doraltic forces being pushed out of Roendavar and a series of Tsunter defeats in Aizcona - cost the Neo-Imperialists their initiative and forced them into strategic retreats on all fronts. Khas-Kirati defeat in the Battle of North Mesder Sea the same year also led to the Doman War ending in a Domananian victory. In 1945, the liberation of San Montagna and Solaryia as well as the invasion of Dormill and Stiura by Free Powers began.

The war in Gael ended in 1947 after Doraltic leader Ludvoic Denis was taken prisoner and signed the unconditional surrender from his cell. A coup in the United Partitions overthrew the Zastere Regime and the new military junta withdrew from the war. In 1948, the capitulation of their Tsunter ally and the fall of key Khas-Kirati cities one after another forced the Khas-Kirati high command, against Arumhang's orders, to finally surrender and cemented the Imperial War as a Free Powers victory.

The Invasion of Torom or Torom Campaign (1 January - 15 March 1942) formed part of the greater Canal Front, an offensive campaign by the Khas-Kirat Empire during the Imperial War. It took place over two and a half months and ended with the Khas-Kirati occupation of Torom following the surrender of the Toroman government.

On 1 January 1942, the Khas-Kirat Empire invaded Torom after the latter refused Khas-Kirati demands of handing over southern Torom and the Central Canal. Torom was under the sphere of Segentova and both nations attempted to halt the Imperial Khas-Kirati Army in southern Torom.

The Khas-Kirati official history stated that in the two and half months of bitter fighting, the militias of Toromais, Dibolans and Khumbuwanis (an Eastern Kirati people from northeastern Vendriothos who had been living in parts of Torom and Segentova for centuries) were tough opponents and spoke of their "extraordinary bravery". The Toroman surrender on 15 March 1942 forced Segentova to reach its own informal detente with the Khas-Kirat Empire that lasted briefly until the Khas-Kirati Invasion of Segentova later that year in August. Torom was occupied by the Khas-Kiratis until 1946, when it was liberated by the Free Powers before the Invasion of Vendriothos in 1947.
