[box]Today is the first day of the tournament! Crowds flock to the tournament ring outside the castle, just to the north of the city. All around, banners, streamers, and colorful flags flap in the wind. Adults and children alike speak in excited tones, each one looking forward to the event to come. Jugglers, musicians, and jesters roam the streets, adding an air of jolliness and gaiety to the crisp air. From the taverns, shouts and songs can be heard from the early partyers, getting their fill of the cheap beer and, for the festive anniversary occasion, wine. At the ring itself, already the seats have begun to fill up, and the guests of honor begin to arrive. Soon, only standing room will be left for the onlookers. The trumpets sound the royal fanfare as the Diarchs make their way to their thrones, wrapped in the colors of the founding houses of Thegye. Seated, the Diarchs extend their hands and signal the beginning of the tourney. Let the best warrior win![/box]

[box]JERHINO vs. YAKSIN CHEK

The two warriors enter the ring to loud cheering and applause. Each makes his way before the royal platform and bows deeply to the Diarchs. Then, at the signal of the referee, the fight begins.

As the signal sounds, the Noyistan warrior draws back his mighty bow and looses an arrow, which lodges itself in Yaksin's right thigh. The Thegyan cries out in pain and stumbles, allowing his opponent's second arrow to fly over his head. Now within range, Yaksin strikes out with his mace, bashing Jerhino in his side, knocking the wind out of him. However, he recovered enough to use the arrow in his hand to strike a hard blow against Yaksin's shoulder, breaking off the head of the arrow in the flesh. Screaming in pain, Yaksin surrenders and is carted off the field to the nearest medic. [box]MISS CHANDRA II vs. RAASHID

The two warriors enter the ring to loud cheering and applause. Each makes his way before the royal platform and bows deeply to the Diarchs. Then, at the signal of the referee, the fight begins.

The two spear-wielding warriors circled each other for a moment, each eyeing the other up. A moment passed in silence. Then, rushing forward, Raashid lept in the air and thrust his spear down at Chandra. Caught a bit off-balance, Chandra let the spear past her guard and it struck her hard in the shoulder. She cried out and fell back as the Almaazian pulled his weapon from her. Undaunted, Chandra swung around and dealt Raashid a strike to the back, which garnered a loud "OOF" from the Almaazian. However, he turned back about and thrust his spear, but was deflected, the tip pinning Chandra to the ground with a grunt. Whipping her spear up, she caught Raashid on the chin with an audible crack. Falling back, Raashid pulled free his spear, letting it spring upwards naturally, which caught Chandra across the face. She spun once and then fell on her face, out cold. Lord Zythe, a masterful swordsman, rushes forward and brings down a blow on the unsuspecting Dyryke. Despite the Indian's attempts, the blade scraped across his face, leaving beads of blood. As he reached up to wipe his face, Zythe took the moment to slash down and bite into Dyryke's shoulder, throwing him to the ground. Screaming and bleeding, Dyryke was unable to defend against Zythe's pommel, which struck his face squarely. Zythe rose, unscathed, to the cheers of the crowd. As the bell sounded, Princo rushed forwards, slicing down with his gladius. The German warrior hacked and hewed at Konstantin's defense and manages to strike a blow, slicing across Konstantin's forearm. Another blow from Princo sends the Cothernite reeling. Recovering swiftly, Konstantin grabs Princo's upraised sword arm and smashes his pommel into the side of Princo's head. The German crumples to the floor, unconscious. Konstantin V. The two warriors enter the ring to loud cheering and applause. Each makes his way before the royal platform and bows deeply to the Diarchs. Then, at the signal of the referee, the fight begins.

Istillian, raising his Australian sword, strikes out at Jiham, slicing across his chest and forcing him back. The scrape enrages Jiham, but he is pushed back again by another wide sweep. Finally, the Krotoi warrior thrusts forward, cutting across Istillian's shoulder with his scimitar. Taking the moment, Jiham brings his buckler against the Australian's head, dazing him. However, Istillian manages to thrust forward with his sword, slicing just under Jiham's arm. However, the stiff blow from Jiham finally reaches the brawny Australian and he collapses into the sand, leaving a victorious Jiham to greet the cheers of the crowd. The two warriors enter the ring to loud cheering and applause. Each makes his way before the royal platform and bows deeply to the Diarchs. Then, at the signal of the referee, the fight begins.

Theobald rushes forward and ducks under the spear-thrust of Pan the Fisherman. Slicing at his thighs, the Hallowmossian warrior trips the Protectori. Falling down, he tries to scramble to his feet, but Theobald uses his buckler to smash him in the head. Falling back down and rolling over, Pan struggled again to get up, but his attempts were halted cold by Theobald's saxe hilt. [box]CATRID Á SAV vs. MAX MOONSHINE

The two warriors enter the ring to loud cheering and applause. Each makes his way before the royal platform and bows deeply to the Diarchs. Then, at the signal of the referee, the fight begins.

Catrid, swinging her double axes threateningly, eyes up the clearly drunk individual before her. He smells of strong alcohol, she decides, and something like rotten potatoes. Shrugging, she approaches him. He doesn't react. She prods him with her axe. This appears to startle Max, who didn't even know she was there, and he trips sledgehammer, cracking his head over the back of Catrid's other axe. Shrugging again, the Maranthian toed the body over. The drunkard was clearly passed out, but she didn't know from what exactly: the blow or the drink. Catrid á Sav, the contestant from [nation=noflag]maranth[/nation] wins, defeating Max Moonshine of [nation=noflag]ellenburg[/nation]![/box]
[box]STEVEN JAJ vs. GEORGE WIDDLETON

The two warriors enter the ring to loud cheering and applause. Each makes his way before the royal platform and bows deeply to the Diarchs. Then, at the signal of the referee, the fight begins.

Steven, using the reach of his halberd, strikes the first blow, but only grazes George's arm. The South New Zealander, unable to draw his crossbow in time, closed the distance and used his knife to claw at Steven. However, this only annoyed the Thegyan, who pushed away and struck George in the gut with the haft of his halberd. Winded, George slashed across Steven's face, leaving it bleeding across his cheek. Screaming in rage, Steven broke the wooden handle of his halberd over George's head, knocking him out. Steven Jaj, the contestant from [region]Thegye[/region] wins, defeating George Widdleton of [nation=noflag]second republic of south new zealand[/nation]![/box]
[box]As the last contestants leave the ring, the crowd begins to disperse. Soon, the Diarchs rise, announce that the second round of the tourney and the defeated bracket will begin tomorrow morning, and depart for the ensuing feast. The rest of the crowd leaves, some heading home, others to parties, and still others to the taverns to celebrate wins or losses. All in all, everyone has enjoyed the first day of the tourney and many look forward to the events tomorrow![/box]
