Overview

The Weimarian-deutsche Polizei und Selbstverteidigungstruppe (Weimarian-German Police and Self Defense Force) is the police force and de facto military of Weimar-Germany. It has been in service for 70 years, and has been involved in over 5 international conflicts. It is a police force and a military, which is often frowned upon by nations such as the American Confederacy and the Kingdom of Scandinavia, which have weak police forces and progressive values. However, this choice was not willing, and was included in the Treaty of Weimar, which ended World War Two.

The police force is similar to Japan's Self Defense Force in that it's main purpose is keeping order in the mainland. But also similar to Japan, the police force has several "militias" that are made up of officers that are sent to "keep the peace" in other nations when called upon. It is considered the most powerful police force in the world in that it has access to the latest tanks and even the nuclear arsenal. It also has one of the largest military budgets in the world, a remnant from the cold war.

The police force is mostly tasked with guarding borders and being normal police in the cities and towns. However, the force is being downsized, with a 30% decrease budget cut for the force planned for by 2030. Recently the force has been losing members and funding with the money being diverted to social programs. The jobs being lost are having consequences, as more money is being taken by the former police in unemployment and other welfare programs. This is a major problem with the government, which has plans to cut it down even further. The police force also faces anger from the left-wing populace, which thinks that it is much to powerful.

History

The Police and Self Defense Force is the result of World War Two. During the war, the Wehrmacht committed many horrendous, including civilian killings, bombing hospitals, and abusing prisoners and civilians. This disgusted the nations fighting Weimar-Germany, and lead them to want to destroy the military of the nation entirely. After Weimar-Germany surrendered, the Allied Powers did what they had wanted, and crippled the nation. First they made it pay all reparations, but they learned from the first World War, and let it grow its economy, and gave it a time to gain funds. Second they shattered the nations government, and created a new one that would never allow a far right party to take power (which came back to bite them later). Then they forbid the nation from having a military, and ever deploying any official forces in any other nation.

The nation was confused, as it would not be able to defend itself. And that was the point - the winners were scared of an angry Germany from ever rising up again. But the government found a way around it: the treaty said nothing about the police. It started pumping military level funding into the police, and it created a de facto military. Originally called the Kaisers Polizei, later changed to the current name, it looked like a promising system. And for a while it worked too. The police managed to not abuse its power, and the progressive education policies managed to prevent crime well. But in the 60's, the police became more corrupt. The continuous funding gave them more power, and they started abusing it. In 1968, crime almost doubled, and the police were behind lots of it. They started suppressing protests about that as well. And they received very little training militarily, which was a huge mistake.

The Police Force continued its suppression under the communist regime in the Cold War. After the Cold War, in the 80's, the force was still corrupt and powerful. Then the Police Force was given its first military test in the first Polish-German War (Land wars between Poland and Weimar-Germany), where it completely collapsed. The generals and commanders had no tactics or strategies, and they led their troops into bloodbaths. Meanwhile the most common order on the front lines was "retreat". The government saw no way for Weimar-Germany to win, and was forced to an embarrassing surrender. The nation saw need for major reforms, and began to completely overhaul the police system. They implemented more background checks, requirements, programs, and made the Heads elected. The new force (the name change happened then, in 1986) was much more organized and disciplined. The officers were much better, and the people were mostly satisfied. The system had been fixed.

The force managed to bring itself together before 1987, when the Polish began marching to war with Weimar-Germany after the government was not able to deny sending an assassin to kill their Premier, starting the Second Polish-German War. But they had underestimated the new force, which was now beefed up and ready to fight. The Polish were decimated, and Weimar-Germany managed to take back all the land it had lost and some extra. The Polish were severly weakened, and the final puppet state of the Soviet Union collapsed a year later. The nation was incredibly happy with the success of their unique system, and it began funding it even more. Unfortunately it had some consequences. The powerful military force added power abuse, and there was nothing any government powers could do - it was human nature. So it became government policy to have a bit of police fund to fund reparations. And many countries disapproved of having a police-military mix, despite being the nations that wrote the treaty that forced the police solution to have been used. Through the modern age and the 21st century, the force has been deployed to over 5 conflicts, including the "Missile East" conflicts and the Summer Uprisings in the Balkans.

Forces and Equipment

The Weimarian-German Police and Self Defense Force is one of the most funded military forces in the world. It has some of the most powerful weapons in the world currently, including the most powerful basic assault rifle in the world, the TK-1829. This rifle is incredibly popular to use in Weimar-Germany. The force has 229,673 active officers, and this number is growing - although it is expected to decline. The force also has very powerful tanks, including the Karlov, a powerful tank with heavy armor and a 105mm gun. These are often not deployed within the nation except within designated military zones. The force is also very good at producing planes, with one of the most powerful planes out there: the Grand Eagle. The Grand Eagle can fly up to 10,000 feet in the air, is armed with guns and four rockets, and can reach speeds of up to 1500 mph. The Navy is weak however, and receives little funding.

The common uniform for police officers is black or dark blue, with either armor or a simple cap. The badge (symbol of the police) is attached to the area above the heart. These badges have cameras that are always on, in order to have evidence in case of a court case involving police, and turning them off is a crime. They usually have a basic 10mm Gar Pistol, or sometimes a 19mm Helios Shotgun. This varies based on rank, as some higher ranking officers are allowed to use the TK-1829 on basic patrols and duty. All border guards are armed with a TK and a 53mm F-54 Sniper Rifle. The ranks for officers go in this order, from highest to lowest.

  • Commander in Chief (Kaiserin Elise)

  • Head Commissioner (Ben Schmidt)

  • Provincial Commissioners

  • Chiefs of District Police

  • Captains of District Police

  • Lieutenants/Detectives/Technicians

  • Sergeants/Border Patrol

  • Corporals

  • Senior Officers

  • Officers

  • Recruits

The newly added members of the police force are called the recruits. They are not allowed to have anything but a Gar pistol, and they can only train or patrol with a Senior Officer of above. Normal officers have passed training, and they can patrol on their own. They still can only have a pistol, but they can have things like flashbangs and throwing knives. Senior Officers are officers that have served two years. They can choose from any guns they have in the basic armory, including shotguns and non-TK rifles. Only this level equipment is actually allowed on patrols. After they have become Senior Officers, a person in the force can be promoted to a Sergeant by their Chief. They have access to all the weapons but military vehicles like tanks and planes, which they can use if they choose to become Border Guards. After that, they can choose their career. They will be offered a promotion to either Lieutenant, where they get to help normal officers and sometimes work on patrols. Or they can choose Detective, where they specialize in solving mysteries. Finally they can choose Technician, and develop tech and help around the Base. Captains help the Chiefs of District Police (elected), which run their mini departments. The Province Heads (elected) monitor them, and the one in charge of it all is the Head Commissioner (elected).

International

Internationally, the Force is renowned as one of the most disciplined and concentrated forces in the world. Many nations do not appreciate a police force having so much power however, and this is often pointed out in UN debates. The force is the main stain on Weimar-Germanys international reputation. However, it is incredibly progressive, and crime is not very often due to education and welfare more than the force. The state is facing international pressure to start disarming it, but these countries are hypocritical. Most countries have even bigger militaries. But the force works, and many other nations are powering up their police forces to try and emulate the success Weimar-Germany has had. The more liberal countries (even though Weimar is liberal) scorn this however, and this has lead to much colder relations with them. However the nation is making improvements, including making only low-level equipment allowed in the nation, and making promotions harder.
