De Havilland Canada is an aerospace company based in Toronto, Ontario, with facilities in Calgary, AL, and Richmond, BC. It was founded in 1928 as a subsidiary of the British aircraft manufacturer De Havilland Aircraft Company (1920-1963).

De Havilland Canada played a major role in both world wars, building aircraft for both the British and Canadian Royal Air Forces. The company grew considerably during these times and built many facilities across Canada, creating many jobs in the process.

In the early 1960s De Havilland began facing financial problems. In 1963 the company merged with Hawker Siddeley (later merged into BAE Systems) and sold its subsidiaries. De Havilland Canada struggled on its own and only stayed afloat with government subsidies.

In 1986 De Havilland Canada merged with Canadair, another government-owned company at the time. The new company was privatized.

The 1990s were a good decade for De Havilland Canada. Following the success of the new Dash 8 series, the company grew in public opinion and attracted investors. De Havilland Canada became a public company once again in 1993 and quickly sold many stocks. Boeing, an American aircraft manufacturer, made large investments in the company becoming the largest foreign shareholder.

De Havilland Canada has since acquired Learjet in 1994 and Cirrus Aircraft in 2001. It is headquartered at Downsview Airport in Toronto. It also has international facilities in Wichita, KS, Duluth, MN, and Mobile, AL, Paramountica, Querétaro, Mexico, and Belfast, Canovia.
