Useful NS Resources

This is a first draft and was meant for a community of leftists who didn't quite know how to game the satirical system. Maybe I'll rewrite this better one day, but I doubt it.

Annoyed by issues and/or stats?
LinkThis site contains all issue, option, and outcome texts as well as a list of all policies. Even better, Linkthis site has statistical data on issue outcomes regarding stat changes! It's probability-based due to the complex inner workings of the game, but it's still very useful.

If your nation is young, you'll get stronger or what may appear as uncomfortable or inappropriate effects. This is unfortunate if unintended, despite mirroring difficulties of real young nations. For example, a weak newborn socialist nation restricting political freedoms to prevent a real threat of fascist counter-revolution might make perfect strategic sense in that moment. Regardless, you have my empathy! But there will be a lot of chances to steer your nation back to the way you'd prefer. Eventually, you'll certainly reach a stable state in which you have comfort or pride in the state of your society, and even "wrong" options won't harm or change your nation too much... usually. Regardless, you can always do research, and turn issue frequency to maximum.

This game seems to take outcomes to parody extremes (get used to it, it's funny), but the actual text explanation rarely has a real/literal effect on your nation, unlike raw stats and occasional policy changes which are typically more sensible (at least... logical at the time?) as calculated by complex behind-the-scenes algorithms taking into account all aspects of your nation (tricky!), so pay more attention to those as presented by issue results. And if still in doubt, that is if you're still not happy with any possible option, just dismiss the issue! It's a valid and often realistic decision presented to you for a purpose. And honestly, it's okay to reject the stat/issue system if you just can't enjoy it. The vast majority of NS users who roleplay are adamant that their NS stats are not canon; It's all about writing factbooks! It's very fun and the basis of my own canon, but I try to make stats as accurate as possible as well.

in-game grid of WA nation categories

What this game calls economic freedom is essentially a scale from planned economy (including socialism) to regulated "pragmatic/mixed" capitalism to free market/complete private control of the economy. The scale of centralization would probably depend mainly on political freedom and maybe other stats unrepresented here, technically allowing state capitalism to possibly be classified within the low economic freedom region, but it may require maximally reduced personal and/or political freedom, something socialists would typically not view as appropriate because of the general progressive civil views of socialism and the common belief that economy should be integrated into the government democratically, with political power belonging to workers or the people, at least to an extent.

Another thing to note is liberal here refers to either greater political or personal freedom than middle of the road socialism, or "Democratic Socialism" in the game. In fact, combining those increased freedoms under socialism (again, low economic freedom) yields the category Left-Wing Utopia. That's as full communism as it gets and something that many of us socialists would strive for, while the real liberals are firmly on the center or right of the economic freedom axis!

I may not endorse everything said at Linkthis site, but its images of the re-imagining of this categorization system, specifically Linkhere and even Linkhere, might be informative.
