Scandium Communcations

Scandium Communications Inc. is a publicly traded Yorrkish company headquartered in Pakarr, Lestar. Scandium operates a small network of satellites, used specifically for regional voice and data communication. This communications is transferred via hand-held satellite phones and other transceiver units. The Scandium satellite series is positioned to cover the entire region, including seas and airways. This allows for all transceiver units to maintain a constant connection, no matter the location within the region. Scandium manages several operations centers in Yorrkon to operate the satellites. The Yorrkon Department of Defense, through its own dedicated gateway, relies on Scandium for regional communications capabilities. The company derives its name from the chemical element scandium, which has an atomic number of 21, equaling the initial number of satellites which were planned to be deployed. Currently there are 26 Scandium satellites, with at least 24 more planned to be deployed and operational between the early and mid 2019 year.

Satellites

The initial system of 21 satellites were launched in 2006. This first "Scandium One Constellation" had the purpose of achieving region wide coverage of satellite communication abilities. Allowing for any transceiver unit to transmit a signal to a satellite, and then relayed to other satellites, ground stations and earth station downlinks. From 2008-2011, five more satellites were launched with updated systems, including backups, as replacements for the first five satellites. In 2017, it was announced by CEO, Jaris Hardik, that the "Scandium Two Constellation" project would commence at the beginning of 2018. The second constellation's purpose is dedicated towards maritime services. With thousands of vessels and tankers travelling the region's seas, reliable global communications was seen as a solution for fleet managers looking to optimize their daily activities. The Scandium Two Constellation will be consisted of 24-30 satellites (backups included), is working to provide commercial maritime operations with high-performance, flexible, cost-effective maritime voice and data communication solutions that keep vessels and crew connected.

Yorrkon originally launched Scandium's satellites with its own domestic rockets constructed by the Yorrkon Space Research Agency (YSRA). However, over the years, the contracts developed a build up of debt, and required large amounts of resources from the YSRA. Evidently, the YSRA denied contracts, and Scandium Communications halted its requests. This as well occurred due to the inefficient rockets of the YSRA, in which consisted of outdated 1970s technology, and inaccurate projection systems. In 2017, in the announcement of the Maritime Connections Solution, Scandium would begin to outsource to other nations to fulfill the contracts necessary for the prolonged project.

Other Equipment

Scandium manufactures and distributed a variety of its own products that connect to Scandium satellites. These products include pagers, handsets, satellite phones, standalone transceiver units, SIM Cards, Modems, and other devices. Scandium Communications as well provides its own voice and data services for its products. Satellite phones are the most commercially sold product of Scandium Communications.Standalone transceiver units, such as buoys, rely on Scandium satellites to transmit signals for emergencies, such as tsunami warnings. Global positioning devices are built within all products, but are as well sold separate for all commercial transportation systems. Without a GPS device, locations are able to be calculated, but less accurately, through using a Doppler Shift calculation from a satellite.
