Citizenship Amendment Signed Into Law

Press Release

Produced by the LinkMinistry of Home Affairs of The North Pacific

Earlier today, Delegate Siwale signed the Citizenship Amendment into law which eases the requirements to maintain citizenship in The North Pacific. This bill, which passed in the Regional Assembly with overwhelming support (47 Ayes to 12 Nays), is in response to the countless number of cases over the years of nations losing citizenship while remaining active participants in our gameside community.

Citizenship is one of the best ways to get involved in The North Pacific. Becoming a citizen allows nations to run for public office, vote in elections, and participate in the Regional Assembly. Until today, maintaining citizenship required players to post on the regional forum every 30 days. This placed a burden on players who participated heavily on our Regional Message Board and other gameside aspects of our community, which increased the prevalence of nations losing citizenship before important elections and legislative votes.

Now, Regional Message Board posts count towards the activity requirements for maintaining citizenship, just as forum posts do. The added option of posting on the Regional Message Board to satisfy citizenship activity requirements allows Citizens of The North Pacific more flexibility when participating and promotes easier maintenance of their voting rights.

With the January 2019 General Elections right around the corner and the passage of these more flexible activity requirements, all nations are encouraged to apply for Citizenship. Don’t miss out on your chance to vote!

To apply for citizenship, nations are required to post the following oath via a reply to the following forum thread: https://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/9145386/

Nation: [INSERT YOUR TNP NATION]

I pledge loyalty to The North Pacific, obedience to her laws, and responsible action as a member of her society. I pledge to only register one nation to vote in The North Pacific. I pledge that no nation under my control will wage war against the North Pacific. I understand that if I break this oath I may permanently lose my voting privileges. In this manner, I petition the Speaker for citizenship in The North Pacific.

If you have applied for citizenship in the past but are unsure if you are still a citizen, you can check for your name in the following spreadsheet (if it is not there, please reapply):
