Commonweath of Poland-Hungary
The Commonwealth of Poland-Hungary (Polish: Rzeczpospolita Polski i Węgierski,
Hungarian: Magyar-Lengyel államközösség,
Lithuanian: Lenkijos-Vengrijos Unija,
Croatian: Poljsko-Mađarska Unija) is a large, sprawling nation encompassing much of central Europe. Stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea, its nickname "Intermarum" or literally Between Seas.
Formed by the Treaty of Poszony/Pożoń in 1530, the Commonwealth is the product of the union of two unions: the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Kingdom of Hungary-Croatia. The Polish-Hungarian-Lithuanian-Croatian union remained intact despite external pressures from the neighboring emerging and extant historical powers: the Golden Horde and Muscovy/Russia in the east, the Ottomans in the South, the Holy Roman Empire to the West, and Sweden in the north.
Today the Commonwealth is a stable, multiethnic, federal constitutional monarchy, with one of Europe's largest economies.
