The history of Mekat (also under Factbooks)
The history of MekatGeography:
The land that now makes up the Mekatian mainland originally rose out of the ocean 925,000 years ago due to a volcanic hotspot that has since moved 340 kilometers to the east. Very quickly, large quantities of plant and animal life rapidly moved to the new, fertile land and the entire island became a jungle within the next millenia. Later, only 500,000 years ago, another island breached the waves, becoming the island Keral. Keral rapidly became a jungle like Mekat Island and not much changed for the next 500,000 years.

First Humans:
128 years ago, the first humans came to the island. They were the explorers John McCaw and Navis Mekat. Upon arriving on the island, Navis was eaten by one of the local six-legged panthers. Because of this, the nation was called Mekat and the national animal is the panther. After this, John hurriedly left the island and returned to Bigtopia to become a cabbage farmer. No further expeditions were launched until only 34 years ago. Then, people from across the world who were unhappy with the nations they were living in, put together funds to construct a massive boat. They then all boarded the boat and set sail to the islands.

Forming of Mekat:
For several years after people arrived on the island of Mekat, they were simply living on the island, trying to cut back the jungle. Then, 28 years ago, Megan McCaw, John McCaw’s daughter, suggested that, in celebration of their completion of the town of Sterces, they should apply for official nation status with the World Census. During the four years they spent waiting, they held a vote for what the nation should be called. Everything from Dave to The High Imperial Throne of Keral. In the end, the name “Mekat” was chosen, in honor of Navis, the explorer who died.

Development of Mekat:
Mekat began growing quickly, but was still largely an anarchy. Soon, the people of Mekat decided that they needed a government. They then decided to install a governmental system in which there would be a senate with a single person who had absolute veto power over everything. This system quickly broke down, as the person with veto power began to simply veto any law that they didn’t like, veto every election that didn’t elect their chosen candidate, and they essentially turned Mekat into a dictatorship under their rule. This ended when people got tired of the nonstop tax raises and the construction of various palaces in the most absurd places. The people of Mekat revolted, and in the chaos, the military came in and established a brief peace that was soon ended. This peace was long enough for a group of people to write a new constitution. The new constitution somehow gained enough authority to become official. In this constitution, the dictatorship was abolished and replaced with a council of 287 people. This number has since grown significantly, with one representative for every 500,000* people living in Mekat.**
*The representative count started at one for every 10,000 people, however recent legislation has increased it to its current number.
