Cerdenia For Member of Parliament | November 2019 Thaecian General Election

Parliamentary Candidate Cerdenia

Cerdenia For Member of Parliament

My Experience

Most of you probably already know me, but if you don't, let me introduce myself. I am Cerdenia, I first got involved on our regional politics way back when the region was founded, having founded the now non-existant Pirate Party of Thaecia, quickly surpassing the Thaecian Solidarity Party in the polls, and transforming the Pirates into the first ever strong opposition to the incumbent TPU-led government. During this time, I got elected Senator for the Pirate Party, and soon managed to become Chairman of the Senate, leading the first ever succesful Majority in the Thaecian Senate, and provinding the region with a stable and reliable senate government after the failure of the 4 previous Chairmen, consequently setting the precedent to how the Thaecian Senate should be run. During my leadership of the PPT, it is safe to say that many of the policies proposed within the party lead to the creation of much of the debate we have nowadays. Topics such as Unicameralism X Bicameralism, or Isolationism X Globalism, all of them grew following the addition of new policies to the manifesto of the Pirate Party, and they helped created the controversial, yet fun debate we have nowadays in the region. Additionally, most recently I've held the position of Deputy Justice Minister, representing the region in the second Court Case in Thaecia and winning it.

My Pledges to the People
  1. Independence: Being an unaffiliated person (not being a part of any political party), I can guarantee to the people that I answer to my electors only. The recent divide in Thaecia caused by a two-party system lead by individuals who, quite frankly, have betrayed the roots of their parties and now only care about their own political gain, isn't going to affect me. Voting for an independent means voting for ideas, not for petty party politics which put the region's progress and growth in second place. In conclusion, as an MP I will stand for what I believe in and advocate for, and I promise to the people that I will resign and call a by-election to my seat should I ever decide to join a political party during my time as MP.

  2. A Constitutional Amendment: Unfortunately for us, during the last constitutional convention an important proposal voted on democratically by the Thaecian people was ignored and removed by Congress during amendment-phase for the ratification of the new constitution. This amendment replaced motions of no-confidence with constructive motions of no confidence, making it more difficult for a government to be removed and for a snap election to be called. Not only that, the amendment also created a loophole which allows a minority to stay in power simply by not-voting at all and preventing the vote from reaching the two-thirds quorum in the House of Commons. I believe this must be amended as soon as possible, and being the author of the original version of the no-confidence vote system (voted in the Second Constitutional Convention), I already have a text to propose to amend this and fix the loophole once and for all.

  3. A Referendum on Unicameralism: Being the main founder of the movement in favour of the implementation of Unicameralism in Thaecia, I pledge to propose a motion for a referendum on Unicameralism X Bicameralism. I am a strong support of unicameralism, however as MP I will never support a constitutional amendment which creates a unicameral system without proper consultation from the people, as I believe this in an extremely important issue, and one which deserves a proper referendum with a similar style to the Regions Assembly Membership Referendum.

  4. Opposition to Interregional Organisations: As most of you probably know, I helped start the successful movement which lead to Thaecia's withdrawal from the collapsing Regions Assembly, an unfair institution which didn't give Thaecia proper representation. Back then I still didn't fully reject Thaecia joining an interregional organisation, in fact I even supported withdrawing from the Regions Assembly to join the now defunct Federal Union. However, after much thought, it has come to my conclusion that these organisations as a whole are a complete failure, the closest NS ever got to a successful interegional organisation, the Federal Union, ended up collapsing due to extremely low participation, turnouts of around 25% on elections, a complete lack of interest from common people in this new political environment which was composed by foreign politicians they never heard of. As such, I pledge to vote against joining any of these organisations as MP. Thaecia should seek to colaborate with close allies and establish embassies with reasonably-sized regions, things I strongly support, however Thaecia should not be governed or have it's interests harmed by foreign regions.

  5. A Reconsideration of the Need for a Regional Military: A few months ago, Thaecia passed a bill to establish a regional military. Back when it was first proposed I backed it, I've always thought establishing a small-sized military would be fun to give people interested in that area some extra activity to do. However, after seeing the mess that is being made out of the selection for the Defence Minister, I have come to the conclusion that Thaecia should consider repealing L.R. 011 (Thaecia Military Defence Force Creation Act). The main reason for this is simple, the Prime Minister can't find a proper nominee for the position, and I don't blame him, Thaecia isn't a region of military background, it has never been one and it will likely never be one. Establishing a defence ministry lead by an unqualified individual, which will end up taking away players who could instead get involved in mainstream Thaecian politics, is something I view as unnecessary, and could even harm our diplomatic relations. Instead of getting an area in which most Thaecians are unexperienced with to take players, we could be seeking to get those players involved in government, through more effort from the ministers to create ministerial teams with people who help them do their jobs better (example: a recruitment team for the Home Affairs Ministry, or a Public Defence team for the Justice Ministry).
