The Protectorate of Altrius Station is a large, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its ubiquitous missile silos, state-planned economy, and devotion to social welfare. The hard-nosed, cynical population of 98 million Alistians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The enormous, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Welfare. The average income tax rate is 74.8%.

The sizeable but sluggish Altrius Stationian economy, worth 2.26 trillion Energy Credits a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, highly specialized black market in Trout Farming, Arms Manufacturing, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 23,048 Energy Credits, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 3.7 times as much as the poorest.

Creating cardboard imitations of missiles is a new top-secret military project, burning members of the Order of Violet is the nation's favorite pastime, public urination is on the increase, and female brains are believed to heat up dangerously when 'overclocked'. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Altrius Station's national animal is the Cow Bat, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

Altrius Station is ranked 126,152nd in the world and 19th in Entropy for Most Advanced Public Education, scoring 1,220.05 on the Edu-tellignce® Test Score.
